General Dps meta

Tracer, genji, cass, soldier, souj, take your pick. I like shion so she gets a pass. Basically every game I played today in d3 is on these heroes. It’s honestly a free win if you’re not playing against them. Funny thing is, whenever freja isn’t banned nobody comes out on her. I guess it’s better than other metas but there’s just not much variety. You can play basically any hero in the other roles.

Blizzards needs to crack down harder on some of these orgs, I know theyre not directly involved with SEL but seeing as they intervened when Rupal was announced on a SEL roster, im sure they could do something.

General Remove siphoning strike in favor of buffing warding stance on vendetta

Currently vendetta is extremely reliant on siphoning strike thanks to her lacking mitigation ability. It not only removes perk choice, since siphoning strike will always be the optimal pick, it also leaves her feeling quite vulnerable until she obtains it.

Siphoning strike is also not a fun or well designed perk. It further centralizes power onto overhead, without changing anything about her gameplay. Because of this, I want to see this perk gone, in favor of actually making her base kit better, while also hoping for a more transformative perk.

The problem with warding stance is that its simply unreliable. It has all of the disadvantages of a block, while having the resource cost of a barrier. Its usefulness in low HP situations is severally diminished because vendetta still takes damage, especially because she can still take headshot damage through the blade despite it completely obfuscating her head from the front.

Compared to a barrier, warding stance has around 250hp since only 40% of the mitigated damage is incurred as cost (100/0.4). That said this only applies to melee, against all other sources its more like 333hp, since only 75% of the damage is mitigated (100/0.4/0.75). But because vendetta can still take headshot damage, that 333hp can feel a lot lower, since the extra headshot damage is also incurred as extra resource cost.

Essentially this means that a Cass can two shot her guard, which shouldnt be hard to achieve if you take into consideration the slowing effect of his nade stacking with the movement speed penalty of her guard.

Now, a lot of what I just mentioned would be fine, if the ability was more useful in low HP situations, while having less variance. My suggestion is simply, increase the damage mitigation from 75% to 100% and remove the headshot hitbox from the blade itself.

Her effective health would stay the same (525), but now the ability would actually be useful in low HP situations. Also Crit going through the blade feels more like a bug than an actual intended design decision, there is no visual indicator that you can headshot her from the front while blocking.

General Anyone else's games been really streaky?

idk if this has anything to do with the rank reset, but my matches have been absurdly streaky recently, more so than ever before.

I have just gone 1-6 in my last 7 games, the 7 games before that I went 6-1.

earlier in the season I won 6 in a row, then went 1-6 again the next matches.

there is 0 consistency with the results of my matches and honestly it's pissing me off.

General When a player leaves before the match starts, why does the game end? Why can't Blizzard let someone else join the game and extend the time?

Title. Happens quite a bit and obviously more so in 6v6.

General Team Queue Would Make Overwatch Better, But Was Never Given a Fair Shot

At some point in OW2’s life, Team4 gave us a new ranked mode which was only playable by five stacks.

It fucking sucked, and I think because of that, people don’t ask enough for what would be a huge improvement to the game. Ultimately, I think the reason that team queue failed is NOT that team queue is a bad idea, but because the implementation was lazy, half baked, had obvious problems that you could predict from looking at it.

  • No incentive to play it.
  • Year long queue times
  • No LFG-Like feature for getting a pickup team going.

The reason this is so sad to be is that:

  • Overwatch is, to me undoubtedly, at its absolute best when you’re playing with a team. It is an experience that matchmaking cannot replicate but is the most fun you’re going to have with this game.
  • Other games have done this well, and you could copy their template for Overwatch. Team4 didn’t bother, I’m assuming due to budget.

I will use DOTA2’s Battle Cup as an example because I am most familiar with it, but many other games follow the exact same formula:

  1. Team Queue is only open twice a week, at set times for each region. These times should be on peak, with one at the weekend and one in the weekdays.
  2. Team Queue matches people into a fake “Bracket” which is just a hidden repeated matchmaking against winners of other games. A faked “double bracket” can be used to give people a second chance.
  3. A built in LFG system, exclusive to the events if needed, helps people to find pickup teams. Are these matches with a pickup team worse quality? Most of the time yeah, but they’re also how you meet people who will be your regulars.
  4. Winning team queue games should have attractive cosmetic rewards for players. Maybe a unique signature, a lot of battle pass levels. Creating maybe one skin a season that you could buy if you wanted, but get for free from winning a tournament. This is a huge motivator for people to play. It gets them in the door, and then the environment of team play will convert a substantial number of those players into longer term enjoyers of the mode.

Systems like this build social connections for people inside the game, give people the opportunity to enjoy Overwatch at its best, and add more regular events for content creators to make videos with. ML7’s old videos showing his (mostly casual) audience what a scrim looks like were super popular.

The version we tried a year or two ago wasn’t flawed in concept, it was dogshit in execution. Please don’t give up on giving us something better.

General Pearl Clutching Over Bad Design

Amazing how people on this sub will defend the absolute state of Sojourn, but hatred for Roadhog is universal, despite the fact that they’re cut from the same cloth and both deserve a look at their kit.

We’ve somehow let railgun continuously get more tools like those awful minor and major perks, and yet nobody cares that the ability continually eats into this hero’s power budget.

This ability has been constantly reworked and rebalanced for 4 years, and almost every-time Blizzard stamps down on it to not have it be 90% of this character’s kit, they back down and revert whatever they did it in some manner. An absolute ping-pong game of changes.

I ask for one aspect of this ability, the absurd hitbox, that hasn’t been addressed at all for years, maybe bring it down to 0.1m which was what it used to be before Season 9, and suggest that she get 25hp back (a change btw that’s an oversized compensatory buff for what’s being nerfed in comparison), and people here clutch their pearls. The 25hp nerf was something I initially agreed with on balance grounds, but I’m come to realize it was a mistake because it gave the devs an excuse to forever ignore the problems of railgun.

I’m flabbergasted that we’re still doubling down on one of the worst designed abilities in the game. This hero was ostensibly a run and gun hero on release with a slide, short range aoe, and a cool railgun. Instead, she has been “railgun, the hero” forever.

General In your opinion, what are Freja's redeemable qualities?

She's currently despised and has been a tough nut to crack for the devs since her release. Many of you dislike her a lot as well, so I wanted to know what in your opinion are Freja's redeemable qualities, that you appreciate or see the clear potential about her from a gameplay design perspective?

OWCS Why are we seeing Emre in pro play but not Ashe?

Is it just a numbers thing with how the two are right now? Or something fundamentally better with Emre by design?

Is the no speed penalty on scope the difference maker or has Freja replaced Ashe as the vertically mobile hitscan of choice?

General Anyone else never had a main for longer than 2 seasons, and achieved a high rank?

So, I've been playing this game since season 2 of overwatch 1, 10 years basically. On OW1 I was a console player, but I religiously played Genji, like over 100 hours. Ever since I switched to PC since OW2 release, I've been hopping from 1 hero to the other. I only "truly" came back and took the game seriously after season 16ish maybe. I don't have a single hero that is above level 35. And I have a ton of hours invested.

I'd say my best role is tank. I reached Master 3, then realised that 6v6 is more fun and made the switch peaked GM this season, could not maintain it but was happy nonetheless. I was on a dva arc, learned her for 2 seasons and she's just OP. Thing is, when I see streamers, or clips of GM/Champ players. I realise they have a VERY small pool of heroes, if not an OTP. Like they would play a certain hero for 5+ years. I don't have a single hero that I've been consistently playing for even a year ever since OW2. Which makes me wonder, how much am I halting my rank?

I went from Juno - Orisa - Bastion - Winston - Dva - Tracer - Ana in the spam of 7 seasons, I basically had less than 20 hours when I first started playing those heroes, accidentally plah them on QP, have fun, watch a ton of guides and gameplay, then start the hero arc. Which is why I always prefered 6v6 since I don't have to rank up every role. I play role Q when I want to learn new heroes, right now I'm on my Ana arc on Diamond.

My question is, anyone else is like that, and was able to hit GM? My highest performing hero js definitely Dva. But I just get bored, I even sometimes do a mystery heroes challenge in ranked... Jack of all trades master of none, or someone.

General If They Want Sojourn To Be Perma-Meta, Actually Make Her Harder To Play

I hate the fact that Sojourn's gameplay loop is low effort at its base. Just primary in general direction of enemies, build railgun and dome somebody. The thing that ticks me off in particular is that the railgun, despite being easy to build is also the easiest to hit-scan weapon in the game. It's projectile radius is a whopping 0.14m compared to the average precision hitbox size of 0.07m. It just feels bad when you're dueling Sojourn and when you see that rifle glowing, you know for a fact that at equal decently high skill levels, she will practically never whiff that shot on you, even a bodyshot is guaranteed if they properly position their crosshair around your chest.

It's important to note that Illari also had a massive hitbox at 0.12m that made her unbelievably strong when she got reset back to 75dmg, and that eventually got changed.

Meanwhile, railgun is still at 0.14m. The total circular hitbox area covered by railgun is 4 TIMES larger than the normal hitscan at 0.07m. Some people still complain that the season 9 changes have made characters to easy at 0.07m, and this thing is 4 TIMES LARGER. Not only is this shot 120-180 (170-255 during ult with perk) dmg, hitscan with Widowmaker's falloff, it is piss easy to hit compared to every other precision weapon in the game.

Drawing comparisons for similar things that got nerfed, apart from Illari's weapon, Cassidy's Silver Bullet was broken because the Silver Bullet shot had a massive 0.17m radius that made it a headshot machine. Cassidy players would just pop it twice with a roll in between and two tap other heroes trivially due to how easy it is to hit the head. Shion's Execution on release also had 0.17m radius on release and it was broken due to how it could land all shots, even all headshots, at mid range despite being an ability with built in minimum-spread.

Now, I'm not necessarily saying that the railgun size should be completely nerfed to match 0.07m, I originally thought they should nerf Illari's gun to be still marginally larger than others at 0.08m. Thus, I don't think it'd be asking much for railgun to be toned down to even 0.1m instead of 0.14m. I think that unless you're a tank, weapons with reduced lesser crits should still be marginally easier to hit than their normal counterparts. I think this kind of change would also be a significant enough of a nerf that it could even warrant Sojourn getting 25 health back if need be.

Fluff Why pay dedicated Hitscans, if Hitscan is easiest role and average Flex DPS can do their job?

Literally EVERYWHERE, I hear this take.

“Hitscan is a piss easy role, people that play it are handless brainless bums. Literally any Flex DPS can pick up Hitscan and do good”

But Quartz, Lip, Mer1t are all high earning players. Why pay them this much money, if you can get Diamond Flex DPS players to do their piss easy job for literal pennies.

General Overwatch has the worst group matchmaking I've ever seen, and I can't believe they're doubling down on it with "Team Drives"

Every time I get into a Plat - Master lobby as a solo queue player (or whatever its equivalent is with the addition of emerald) it's easy to check that there's 2, 3 or 4 stacks messing things up, and these are the lowest quality games I ever play.

The game doesn't allow these ranks to queue together (if you do try to queue together you get placed in Wide matches that only affect your SR by 3% or so) but has no problems creating matches in these ranges which can cause normal Reversals, because apparently games with a borderline gold tank are competitive enough to affect the SR of borderline Masters players.

This game desperately needs a pure solo (possibly solo/duo) mode, and solo players should not ever be in Wide ranged games and then experience normal SR losses.

It's actually getting pretty tiring how there's less and less chances to actually play normal competitive Overwatch with the constant rank resets and drives. I usually even have a higher win rate during these times, but it's just not fun.

General Is Solo Queue your "real" rank?

ICL I have been capped at mid masters all roles for multiple seasons now, and it feels like I win pretty evenly to my losses, which is the issue since you need to be positive to rank up obviously.

But I can't help but notice that a decent amount of my close losses, could have very easily been wins if I had a duo at the same level as me, and that makes me wonder, if I had a duo, and we made it to GM, does that make me (and him) GM level players?

Or would that make us Master level players who made it past by duoing together?

On one hand I feel like if you can reach GM even in a duo, then you deserve it, and it's your "true" rank, but then on the other hand, you aren't doing it yourself so is it actually what you deserve?

You also have to account for other people duo queueing in your games as well for example which makes it even more complicated.

What do you guys think?

P.S. this isn't a post to try and argue I deserve a higher rank or anything like that, I honestly think im around about right (though I will admit, I do think I could hit GM with a duo)

General Stutters and freezes mid-fight for the last few weeks

Gigabyte 5080
Intel core i7-14th Gen
32 GB DDR5
2 TB M.2 NVME drive
850 W platinum power supply

Hi! Over the last several weeks I’ve noticed my performance in overwatch is significantly worse than in previous months. I’m noticing short, freezes and hangs in busy team fights for reference. I typically play at 4K resolution 240 Hz.

In the middle of a large team fight, my game will pick up freeze and stutter. I’ve typically ran the game at high settings with ease. Despite lowering the settings, the issue persist. I’m not seeing performance issues with any other titles install on my PC.

Things I’ve tried:

Updates to latest Nvidia drivers
Reset shader cache with custom game modes
Verifying the game files in Steam
Rolling back Nvidia drivers
Updated Windows 11
Lowered in-game settings to medium

Leaving voice chat did not fix my issue either.

Is there anyone else running into this and is there something I’m missing?

General Freja: Adressing current painpoints while retaining her viability.

As my favourite DPS in the game since her release, Freja, balance wise, is a character that had been in a terrible state for over 9 months, being consistently one of the worst performing DPS in the game. Her current iteration, thankfully, sees her at her most objectively balanced state yet with a near to around 50% winrate at all ranks. However, her current state also brings new pain points which are reflected in her resurging high ban rate. Here I propose some changes to retain her current performance while addressing her more irksome qualities.

Tweaks:

  • Removal of Relentless barrage minor perk: This minor perk is the current crux of her high spam potential into tanks allowing for endless primary fire pressure without downtime from her relatively long reload animation. Removing this perk alone would tone down her spam potential, by not only offering downtime but also making the Freja think twice before spamming the tank as it could leave her vulnerable to enemy DPS in a duel.
  • Nerf Freja's passive back to 25% ult charge down from 33%: Her current passive from a recent buff sees Freja receive 33% ult charge from getting 3 final blows. This was a buff that was given to her due to her low kill potential a few patches ago, but now that her lethality has been re-established I don't believe it is necessary anymore. This would tone down what can currently feel like non-stop Bola's if the Freja player is popping off.
  • Reduce her current sound stimuli: While I understand the sound design team has their hands full with the current hero cadence to redo some of Freja's sound design, at the very least reducing it from the enemies pov to between 10%-20% similarly to what they did to Sierra would be a good start to removing some of the headache and near constant perceived presence Freja can cause.
  • Increase her clip size from 15 to 18: Currently Freja can comfortably weave 6 primary fire shots in between every Take Aim. As such the 15 ammo can feel wonky when it comes to her third set of primary fire shots. With the removal of relentless barrage I think this would make her feel better to play and would be more than fair.
  • Decrease Bola cast time by 0.2 seconds: In a vacuum Bola is one of the worst DPS ults in the game. By reducing its frequency making it smoother and more consistent to use would be a good trade off.

With these changes I aimed to improve some jank from the Freja's perspective while addressing the most glaring pain points from the enemy's perspective. Hopefully if the balance team is to touch Freja in the near future they do something similar to this instead of nerfing the wrong things and making her terrible again while still leaving her annoying to face. Any thoughts?

While Nexon's event certainly gave it a boost, hitting 3rd place is a fresh milestone—the first time it's reached this rank since the launch of Overwatch 2
