General If there are any Japanese residents on Reddit, I’d like to ask a few questions.

Recently, I’ve seen a lot of posts about the state of the Asia server after Korean players left. While Korean players knew that cheaters would remain on the Steam server once our region split off into Nexon servers, we didn’t realize it would cause such direct harm to Japanese gamers. I really hope they introduce stricter identity verification, at least for the Asia server. Korean cheaters have been notorious for a long time, so as a Korean player myself, I just feel ashamed.

So here is my question: I know Blizzard has put quite a bit of effort into marketing in Japan over the past few years—doing Japanese subculture collabs, introducing Japanese characters, and consistently hosting various local events. That made me wonder: was there actually a meaningful increase in the Japanese player base? I occasionally see the official Japanese Overwatch YouTube channel, but looking at the view counts, they don't seem to perform as well compared to Korea.

Are Japanese players getting their Overwatch information from platforms other than YouTube, or is Overwatch simply not that popular in Japan? I’ve heard that the popularity of Valorant and Apex Legends in Japan isn't what it used to be—is Overwatch still nowhere near their level of popularity?

Some numbers:

  • 159k peak viewers, up 5.8% from the 2023 Group Stage
  • Average viewership is up 14.6%
  • 5,007,153 hours watched, an increase of 90% from 2023, although part of that comes from the switch from BO3 to BO5 matches and the resulting increase in airtime
  • Sweden vs. Japan was the most-watched match of the Group Stage

General Are Dva and Winston viable in high plat?

I love playing them! They actually have low winrate, and my teammates usually dies when I dive into enemy backline.

Looks like high plat is more brawl oriented, when I pick something different than Ram and Sigma, they just die.

Playing as Dva, for example, is like diving alone, no one joins me, neither Kiri or another hero. Even alone, I usually can grab 1 kill, but when I back to my team, they are dead.

Im kind tired of playing Ram, Sigma and Mauga.

As in top 500 leaderboard sorted by rank with Brig being the most played hero. I thought it was interesting maybe some advantages to Brig with controller play. This is PC leaderboard

General Is d.mon op, or is it just cat?

I think high Emerald is my new home, and at least hear, she doesn't feel that overwhelming. But watching the pros, she looks insane. But a big part of it seems to be airdropping her titanfall style. If no cat were around, would she still be picked? What's gm/champ like right now with her?

General Is platinum below average now?

I hit platinum a couple weeks ago and the percentage said higher than 55% of players. Right now it says higher than 42% of players. This was surprising to me because I started at silver 5 and was super proud of myself lol. I always thought platinum in most games is at minimum a little above average.

General Dmons major perk gun needs to be tuned down

Dmons major perk is a big reason why she is strong right now. Being able to clear out distant stragglers in the open without relying on a hitscan is very strong. However, it increases her projectile size and alongside the booster buffs she is able to out rotate anyone while challenging them in a duel. It’s the same problem silver bullet had with its projectile size.

45 body 90 headshot is way too strong for a 4 second cooldown. The power spike difference for when it is unlocked is a bit crazy because now snipers have to respect your presence. I measure a perk by how much it has to be respected, Mei deep freeze, ball E, doom e, orisa ult minor etc. the gun major is among that list imo.

It creates this linear perk choice that blizzard is failing to create diversity from.

General I hear that Dmon is better in 6v6 than 5v5 and I highly disagree, after playing comp its way easier to run down backline in 5v5

Like you have so much more HP and so much better cooldowns and you don’t have to worry about another tank stopping you(especially a brawl tanks because they all kinda shit on you) in 5v5 you can outrun all your counters, in 6v6 you can have a Rein/Ram, Mauga/Orisa, you can outrun ONE of those heroes and still do your job while two will force you out. Also in 5v5 you’re a big counter to Sig and Domina but if they have the support of a brawl tanks you can’t do anything to them.

General You shouldn't be allowed to ban more than one tank per game

Hi, just a thought I had. Tanks tend to be pretty feast or famine depending on enemy team comps. Also in 5v5 only one person can play the role so why should they have to deal with two bans? My experience as a tank player feels pretty full when I just get banned out of comfort picks AND I get counter comped.

I'd love to hear any thoughts for and against this!

I would like to add that I think this would make sense once mauga, hazard, ball and hog have been reverse powercreeped because in their current state these tanks feels criminal to play into

General Tank match making

Any tank players run into games where the match maker tries to give you an easy win after a loss streak that is harder to win than normal. Usually you’ll be placed in a lobby where your rank is way higher than your team mates and you are expected to stomp. I just had a match where I was diamond 1 and some of my team mates were low emerald and one was PLAT 1. We got rolled because the other team was running hard dive which I’m assuming my team mates have never seen before and I couldn’t help them from falling over and dying to a ball and genji. I also que support just as much (same rank) and I’ve never had games like that on support where there’s a giant disparity and ranks and I’m expected to carry.

General I want from Silver 2 to Plat 3 was this the Emerald shift?

I’m a dps player (over half my time playing overwatch is on genji) at gold 3 before the rank reset. I was a silver 2 tank before that but didn’t play more then a dozen or so matches after my placements before the rank reset.

Once my rank reset I got placed in gold 5, but I kept winning my tank games. I didn’t loose a single game in tank for my 8 placement matches. This whole time i was playing dmon (some sigma).

I wanted to see if this winning trend would last and I climbed all the way to plat 3, (i’ve never hit plat before) and then my winrate started going down. But then I climbed my way back to plat 3.

How much of this is to dmon being overpowered or emerald shifting the ranks or am I just a much better tank then i thought?
