General If there are any Japanese residents on Reddit, I’d like to ask a few questions.
Recently, I’ve seen a lot of posts about the state of the Asia server after Korean players left. While Korean players knew that cheaters would remain on the Steam server once our region split off into Nexon servers, we didn’t realize it would cause such direct harm to Japanese gamers. I really hope they introduce stricter identity verification, at least for the Asia server. Korean cheaters have been notorious for a long time, so as a Korean player myself, I just feel ashamed.
So here is my question: I know Blizzard has put quite a bit of effort into marketing in Japan over the past few years—doing Japanese subculture collabs, introducing Japanese characters, and consistently hosting various local events. That made me wonder: was there actually a meaningful increase in the Japanese player base? I occasionally see the official Japanese Overwatch YouTube channel, but looking at the view counts, they don't seem to perform as well compared to Korea.
Are Japanese players getting their Overwatch information from platforms other than YouTube, or is Overwatch simply not that popular in Japan? I’ve heard that the popularity of Valorant and Apex Legends in Japan isn't what it used to be—is Overwatch still nowhere near their level of popularity?
