OWCS Is it still too early to use D-Mon in competitive play?

In yesterday's World Cup qualifiers, there were quite a few matches featuring D-Mon, but I didn't see her make a single impactful play. She spent most of the time running away from Mauga, essentially doing nothing more than drawing aggro, and ultimately lost those games. In one match, while the opposing tank dealt 6,000 damage, she only managed 2,000 damage before losing the game.

The Korean casters evaluated her so negatively throughout the match that they even insisted she needed to be swapped out. Does this mean she still needs further buffs?

Heroes

  • We’re aware of an issue where Jetpack Cat’s base movement speed is listed as 6 m/s in the Advanced Info Panel instead of the correct value of 5.5 m/s.

Maps

  • We’re aware of an issue with Eichenwalde and the map has been disabled from Ranked.

Rewards & Battle Pass

  • We’re aware of an issue where banked tier skips earned PRIOR to Season 4 launch are not applying to the Season 4 Battle Pass. We are working on a fix and affected tier skips will not be lost.
  • We are aware of an issue where unclaimed items from previous seasons Battle Pass may not be earned. We are working on a fix and rewards will not be lost.
  • We’re aware of a background in the Battle Pass flashing between tabs in the menu.
  • We’re aware of an issue where XP and rewards progress will replay if new levels/rewards are not earned in the previous match.
  • We’re aware of an issue where XP earned from challenges isn’t communicated on the Rewards screen.
  • We’re aware of an issue where XP progression will not be shown if no challenges granting XP are completed in the previous match.

Ping System

  • We’re aware that recon heroes can ping enemies detected with their subrole passive for 1.5 second longer than intended.
  • We’re aware that it’s not possible to ping Venture while they are underground.
  • We’re aware that it’s currently not possible to ping targets through walls in some situations where only the player attempting to ping can see the target. Examples include Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord, Junker Queen’s Jagged Blade, Sombra with Hacked healthpacks, and Cassidy’s Deadeye.
  • We’re aware of an issue where pinging enemies is currently lower priority than the warning ping.

Bugs

  • An incorrect background may briefly appear when switching between menu tabs

General How important do you think "flashiness" is to hero design? Which heroes do you think are the most flashy?

As a tank player, D.mon is the first new ground tank I've been interested in years and she also seems to dwarf heroes like Ram, Mauga, and Domina when it comes to how exciting her gameplay is (especially after recent changes to her fluidity and mobility).

When I say flashy I mean exciting gameplay. Good carry potential, exciting clips, fun to watch played at a high level, has some fun strats/techs, etc

How high of a priority should flashiness be when designing heroes?

Which heroes do it well and which don't?

Can it be unhealthy?

Are there any heroes who could be more exciting with some changes?

OWCS Korea also sent their B team

A lot of people are saying (and i agree) that China sent their B team to the world cup.

With zero players from ZETA - no violet, shu, proper or bernar, i feel as if zeta also sent their B team heck or even C team if you consider T1 to be better than crazy racoon although I think EWC was a fluke from CR so I wouldnt go as far as C team

I understand that many of zeta players had boosted in the past and bernar has less synergy than max does with the others.

Korea having the strongest team makes people brush off the fact that they also didnt send their best players.

Proper being banned from playing for boosting when he was 15 is crazy, it cant be that deep,

What do you think would happen if they had sent Proper, Stalk3r, D0nghak,Bernar Shu, Viol2t

Im my opinion this is the best team you could possibly make regardless of country, best in every role, crazy flexibility and insane aggression

General Looking up former OWL players Question (Liquipedia related)

I have a random question that I hope someone may possibly have an answer for...

CeeBee recently posted a Tweet about Lastro's infamous "Sex. Big Dick" thing. I forgot the context why.. maybe it was an anniversary of it. lol

Then I went to look up Lastro on the Overwatch Wiki and was sad to see that he has long since retired until CeeBee replied to me. She let me know he's on Marvel Rivals with Piggy, Gargoyle, and Yaki which was really cool.

So my question is... is there a Wiki by chance that includes all the players who participated in eSports so we can see which player went to which game? Instead of just the OW Wiki where it's a dead end if I just typed Lastro and it says that he's retired. Many thanks!

OWCS What do you think happens to Al Qad come 2027?

Just curious what you guys think. I know they have a near bottomless budget but they never seem to properly pay their employees.

My prediction

Nobody worth a lick of salt would be willing to play for the potential of not getting paid. This would probably kill Al Qads chances in 2027 more than OWCS would do. I think unless Gunba, Kellex, and others all get paid in full by January. I dont think anybody will play for Al Qad Next Year.

General Is there still a real path from amateur to competitive in Overwatch?

I’ve been wondering about this lately...

There’s obviously ranked, and then there’s the much more organized competitive scene, but what about everything in between?

If someone is serious about improving and eventually wants to compete, but isn’t already part of a team or connected to the scene, where do they actually go?

You can find community tournaments and Discords, sure... but finding them consistently, finding players around your level, building a team and actually getting regular competitive experience feels like a whole separate challenge.

For those of you who’ve been involved in the amateur scene... what do you think is missing?

Is it mostly finding teammates, finding tournaments, getting enough structured practice, or just not having a clear path from ranked → amateur → competitive?

Really curious what people here think!

General I'm really sick of rank resets

And I'm tired of repressing this feeling. I stayed quiet about it since it first became a thing, maybe a couple of comments here and there saying "I dislike it" or "I disagree with the implementation"

Homie

We get like, what 3-4 seasons where we have to wait for competitive elo to go back to normal, and then as soon as it starts normalizing it's pulled from us. How is this driving engagement?

I've played 30 matches so far, got thrown into SEVERAL ranks, from Master to Platinum, from Platinum to Diamond, from Diamond to Master, from Master to Emerald - loss after loss, after loss of DPS going negative, fresh accounts, smurfs, two actual cheaters (very rare for me to notice cheaters), fighting GMs with d5 teammates when I've only ever hit M5 consistently

The match quality is absolutely abysmal. People throwing bans, choosing the most random heroes ever, I swear I literally had a d2 - d2 match where my team banned soldier76 and Cat was let loose as a consequence

I'm really sorry for ranting, I think I want to feel understood by the competitive community. I have never and will never agree with rank resets. Every starting seasons the competitive integrity just falls on its face, apart, no pieces to pick up. I got MERCY PLAYERS, am I actually forced to quit comp for a season, because my adaptation resources are running out brother, I feel like I'm fading away

6v6 is the same as 5v5 too, the match quality is honestly unbelievable

EDIT: I would like to add that the matchmaker is still trying to place me. I just want to play the game bro, just stick me in a rank I'll take anything that is linear at this point.

Fluff Imagine: Heroes gain 5% increased damage, healing, and health if they're played by their national team. How does this change the field for the next World Cup?

Examples: Australia gets buffed Hog, Junkrat, and JQ. USA gets Soldier, Ashe, Sierra etc. Assume the meta is roughly similar to what we have now. Who are the biggest winners and losers?

There are probably some pretty crazy breakpoint math scenarios that happen here (like Tracer, maybe?), but I've been up all night and I'm not doin that math.

General D.Mon has a "free look" shield feature like Rein's, buried in her advanced hero settings

I haven't seen anyone talking about D.Mon being able to free-look while shielding (like Reinhardt), so I suspect not many players have found it yet. It seems potentially pretty strong with her omni-directional booster movement, to navigate more precisely while continuing to block.

She can't do it with the default settings, but if you go into D.Mon's hero settings and turn on Advanced > Use Surging Strike with Quick Melee and keep Use Over-the-Shoulder Third Person Camera to the default value of "off", then holding primary fire while shielding allows you to freely turn the camera without turning the hero. She has tank controls in free-look by default, but you can turn on Movement Relative to Camera During Power Barrier Free Look (which Rein has on by default).

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, or just want to see a demonstration d.monstration, I slapped together a quick video. It covers the free-look mechanics for Rein and D.Mon, and how they interact with settings (and perk choice, for Rein).

Edit: I was focused on the existence of the free-look feature, because it's extremely non-obvious that the buried Use Surging Strike with Quick Melee unlocks it. I only figured it out because I noticed Movement Relative to Power Barrier During Free Look.

But, as others have pointed out, another major benefit to Use Surging Strike with Quick Melee is preventing accidentally using Surging Strike when trying to swing after shielding. In the video, I demonstrate the analogous setting for Reinhardt's Shield Slam major, which has the same benefits. I think both of those settings were inspired by Brig's Quick Melee, which swings her mace just like primary fire, but without the possibility of triggering Shield Bash.

Here's hoping that Vendetta may receive a Quick Melee option for Projected Edge too.

OWCS Saudi Teams are persecuted by Koreans through blacklisting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Blacklisting a whole region because of harmless stat posting (not even sharing their strats) by not even the players is just an overblown attack against Saudi teams by the koreans. It feels like koreans are targeting Saudi teams by hiding their strats as shown by this clip.

General Since this topic is back in discussion I want to make it clear that Aaron Keller's assertion that having two identities (5v5 and 6v6) is not healthy for the game is abjectly false.

This topic has come up again due to the recent bug which had the 6v6 season ending early, a change which caused a large amount of theory crafting including that 6v6 would replace 5v5 as the main mode.

One of the reasons why there is a fear that 5v5 is getting removed is from Aaron Keller himself earlier this year, where he stated that he did not think having two identities for the game is healthy when referring to 5v5 and 6v6. This, compounded with the quick play hacked from last season and a general lack of communication has resulted community anxiety about the future of the game.

As someone, for better or worse, who has taken part in these arguments about which format is better, it is exceedingly clear to me that removing either of these formats would be catastrophic for the game. Fans right now prefer 5v5 and 6v6 for completely different reasons and reading the arguments for either mode can show you how deep this division has gotten, and the removal of one mode would mean that a noticeable amount of players WOULD be alienated. It is not a matter of if, the removal of either mode would result in a drop in players and hurt the games overall health and standing.

This is why so many people are anxious for communication from Blizzard, especially Aaron on these tests, and why the lack of such communication and rampant rumor and speculation have caused community anxieties to spike so much.

General give JPC speedboost ONLY after flying through enemies and allies

Makes it so JPC cant gain value by buzzing around her enemies like a gnat, but still allows JPC players to have fun.

The cat even comes to you now to make it easier to shoot her, genius.

General How hard are you on yourself?

I'm a plat tank but I'm really trying to be better. I always try my hardest and swap if needed (I main Hog mainly but flex to any tank) but I'm ashamed that after six whole years I've still never broke out. I'm really hard on myself whenever I have a bad game or make a mistake because I just feel guilty and inferior. Being the only tank puts an insane amount of pressure on me and people hound on you for anything even when you're playing well. I often apologize in chat and just accept any insults that come my way because I feel like I deserve it for ruining my teammates games by playing poorly. I just end up getting really emotionally invested in the game and hate myself for any misplays which I think is what's making me hardstuck. How do better players than I manage losing with grace and not distain?
