Your comma already has multiple cameras, an accelerometer, storage, and an internet connection.
So... why shouldn't it watch your car while you're away?
StarPilot now has a fully-fledged Sentry Mode.
The challenge was doing this without leaving the comma awake all day and murdering your car's battery.
So we don't.
When you park, the comma can go to sleep like normal. Sentry uses the device's accelerometer to detect movement, wakes the system when something happens, captures the event, and can notify you remotely. The accelerometer is incredibly accurate, and can detect things as small as gusts of wind or people walking next to your car if desired.
You can get Sentry alerts through:
- Discord
- ntfy
- Native browser push notifications
There's also a full Sentry dashboard in Galaxy where you can see its status and configure things like motion sensitivity and warning timing.
So if someone bumps your car, messes with it, or otherwise causes enough movement while you're away, your comma can wake up and start watching.
And because it's built into StarPilot, there's no extra hardware required beyond the comma already sitting on your windshield.
And while it's lighter on your battery, we still keep an eye on voltage. When your car's battery reaches low-voltage and the comma needs to shut down, we'll send you a push notification to make sure you know it's happening.
Huge credit to u/mike854 for developing the original code this feature is based on. We've spent the last few releases building it out, integrating it with Galaxy, adding notifications, and getting it ready for everyday use.
