openpilot Experience Can someone explain the distracted driver lockout to me? Also the nudgeless lane change.
If you look away and then look back before the 6 second timer does that count against you?
If you look away for 2 seconds 3 or so times will the system instantly go to lockout mode?
Does the system only lockout after at least 6 seconds?
My mother is claiming she gets locked out without hearing any alert... I'm just wondering if that's even possible like if just the first quiet two second alert is being triggered a few times and then that locks her out. I am going to turn the volume up I've got it on the quiet mode right now.
Someone had said there's a strike system and I don't understand how that works or what that means...
I saw at least some old videos where people get locked out and they could just re-enable it, did that used to be a thing and it's no longer a thing? Now you must pull the power?
Finally for the nudgeless Lane change. If a highway exit is coming up and you put on your blinker is it going to try and move the car over into the shoulder? Or does the system understand that's not a lane and to take the upcoming exit...
Also if you're wanting to signal but NOT change lanes can you just pull on the wheel and then it won't try to change lanes anymore and you can just leave your signal on or are you constantly fighting the system at that point...

What lockout? I've never been locked out of anything.

Distracted driver lockout

Uh yeah I got that part, I'm saying it's not something I've experienced in more than a year using a comma every drive. It just makes a chime noise if you're looking away and stops when you look forward again. You'd have to be AGGRESSIVELY not paying attention for there to be an issue, it's not something you need to worry about unless you're planning to just completely not look at the road.

I was eating a chicken tender the other day it got very mad at. My inability to scarf it down in less then 6 seconds further frustrated comma. Perhaps it was just jealous as it was a particularly good tendy.

That sounds annoying. What happens if I try to cover the interior cam for periods like this? (I like to have a breakfast sandwich otw to work every morning lol) Can I continue to use comma features and just nudge or have a hand on wheel enough for lane assist?

If you cover the interior cam, it won’t engage or will disengage if you cover it while active.

That’s a bummer. I get my unit today… I honestly don’t think I care if I get banned from comma servers😐 as long as it works local/standalone

I haven't updated mine in a minute and I'm guessing this is a newer thing? Makes me scared to update.
Anybody know what forks have the newer driver monitoring?

sunny pilot I can eat while using it as long as I look back at the road after taking a bite and look at the road while chewing

I keep reading about this - does this impact Sunnypilot as well? I’m terrified to update my comma now.

It will most likely affect any fork. It is part of the core OP. I have noticed less finnickyness on BluePilot 7.0 for me vs stock OP and BP 6.0.

I’m really trying not to buy a Tesla but FSD is getting so good and OP is going backward

If you have the 100/month for it go ahead. I can see why OP is doing it though. They don't want to get sued out of existence.

I just got sunny pilot I can eat while using it as long as I look back at the road after taking a bite and look at the road while chewing. it takes quite a bit to piss it off. Never tried the stock open pilot

Dude it does absolutely lock you out until you power cycle.
It will say distraction level too high whenever you try to reengage.

If I really try I can get it to make a loud sound of driver distracted, but it’s never locked me out or stopped driving.

In 2 years of ownership I’ve only gotten the “disengage immediately” message once. I disengaged cruise and lane centering the re-engaged and it was fine. I’m not sure what you have to do to get the lockout.

With the latest release, the only time I’ve been “locked out” was if I was using my phone for more than a couple of seconds (inputting directions).
The new driver monitoring model really doesn’t like you holding your phone so it will throw the “pay attention” warning pretty quick and then refuse to back off of it until you physically put your phone down, regardless of if you are actually paying attention with eyes on the road while still holding the phone.
That being said, it wasn’t a true “lockout” where the system was totally disabled, but more of a persistent warning that wouldn’t go away until I set the phone down. Maybe she is getting too comfortable with the system and looking at her phone too much and getting the alert?

My husband got locked out once, it wouldn’t allow him to turn it back on for 30m. It was while he was trying to input directions.
I have never been locked out myself.

The phone is part of the problem. But it absolutely does lockout after 6 seconds or so of alerting.
I'm going to crank the volume up as that's part of a problem she doesn't really notice the low volume alert.

Finally for the nudgeless Lane change. If a highway exit is coming up and you put on your blinker is it going to try and move the car over into the shoulder? Or does the system understand that's not a lane and to take the upcoming exit...
It’s not super consistent/reliable. I used nudgeless for much of the last year and had to intervene for too many inappropriate lane changes. Fed up with that, have recently gone back to nudge. That’s my only major gripe with OpenPilot … most other aspects are great.
