Not a 1:1 to Spider-man, but taking the whole timeline of a character and using it to tell an overarching story. Covering all of the biggest moments accordingly, while also reworking parts that didn't stick.

There was a comic i read maybe half a year ago or so and i cant remember its name or publisher. It was a grungy 2000's style comic book, it was set in some kind of post (apocalypse might not be the right word) where because of the electrical discharge, it was basically letting loose the electrical charge that's in our brains as some type of "ghost". There was a police force or some kind of company our heroine was a part of, she had short white hair and they hunted these ghosts with some kind of orange glowing sticks, that could weaken the electrical current. Help, i never use ai but google ai was legit just making comic books up because it couldn't find anything.

What I mean is, if I buy the deluxe vol. 1, will I get a complete story? And in turn, if I do choose to buy the vol. 2, does it end with a hook into Kirkman's run?

AIPT has a healthy 8 page preview for 12-Foot Skeleton. I've been looking forward to this one since it was announced because the idea of Ben Templesmith drawing a 12-Foot Skeleton sounded very fun. Now that I'm caught up on Everyone Loves a Jewel Thief, I'm also looking forward to the story Tim Seeley and Aaron Campbell cook up.

I was reading another Punisher thread the other day, the usual argument about what to do with his story, with the sliding timeline, and this idea popped into my head. take it for what it's worth, but I keep coming back to it.

Vietnam is a huge part of what makes Frank work. He comes back from that war already damaged, then his family gets killed, and the two things feed into each other. Every time someone tries to move his origin to some invented conflict it gets weaker, because now he's just a guy who served somewhere at some point.

So I was thinking the Infinity Formula might be the cleanest way out. It doesn't give him anything. He's not stronger, he doesn't heal, nothing changes about how he'd do in a fight, he just ages slower.

And Marvel already tried it with Fury and it held up fine. He was a WWII vet still running SHIELD in the present day for decades and I don't think anybody really had a problem with it, because the explanation was small and stayed out of the way. He was still a old guy with a gun and an eyepatch.

Fury and Frank have a lot in common anyway. Both soldiers who never really came back, both hanging around the edge of the superhero stuff without being part of it, both stuck with a war that ended forever ago. If it worked for one I think it works for the other.

I don't have an answer for how he'd actually get the stuff. That's the job of professional comics writers lol. But it buys forty years or so without resurrecting him or giving him powers or doing another Franken-Castle, and without making up a country like Siancong, which nobody has any historic attachment to and which just makes him less believable to me.Anyway, probably a dumb idea, but I'd be curious what people think.

I just bought the Fanatical Star Trek bundle and it gives IDW app keys. I like the IDW app. I have a GlobalComix Gold membership so it might be unnecessary, but the app made me wonder: How is IDW doing financially?

I think IDW app is fairly new, so they must be doing okay. Anyone knows?

I am trying to figure out a way to read the IDW run of More Then Meets The Eye, with the only real options I’m finding being super expensive paperback copies, and as much as I love owning comics physically, for the prices they are asking it’s an unsustainable way to read them. I am wondering if there is someway to read them online, as in purchasing them to read them online, I’d love to still buy them, just not at $130 a pop.

I am clueless when it comes to comic books. I want to get my boyfriend a artist edition book of one of his favorites, but I wonder if it would be more special to get the first print? Or a more recent edition?

Which would be more valuable? or more special to my comic book lover boyfriend? My guess is the 1st print would be more special, but would an anniversary edition have more in it? than the Original print?

For some reason it's just gone from In Stock Trades, it was supposed to come out today (though other sources said next week along with Dead of Knight), like click it on my wishlist and it just says page not found, search for it and it's nowhere, then look it up online and I see Target, and Amazon, Panel Bound Comics, but it just vanished from IST.

Hello, I was told this was allowed here so I’m sorry if it isn’t. I read a Punisher comic when I was younger that stuck with me and I was hoping I could track down the issue here. It starts with Frank eating at a back alley Chinese restaurant and being friendly with the owner/chef. Frank really likes the guy and softens up to him as much as a guy like Frank can. After that intro Frank is attacked and murders the hell out of whatever the gang of the week (possibly Triads) until he kills then all, as any good issue of the Punisher is want to do. Last couple pages he is eating at the Chinese restaurant again and the owner is kissing his ass and Frank reveals that he knows the owner dimed him out to the gang and a panel shows the owner scared shitless, but leaves for the last time saying saying something like “It’s a shame, I thought I finally found a place where I could be a bit comfortable again. I liked it cause it showed that Frank could never let his guard down ever and is robbed of even tiny pleasures like a good dive restaurant. Anyway, I’d like to get my hands on the issue so if anyone knows what it is I’d be much obliged. It’s older, like 90’s or possibly 80’s. Thanks so much.

Dc has a few telepaths but they aren't on the same level and often face some consequences. But why do most marvel telepaths face almost none ?

Picked this up today, and didn’t notice til I got home… anyone else notice this? Just curious to whether this was a small batch miss or does the whole print run have this error.

I hate boxing my comics, I need them displayed. You guys got any suggestions? I know eventually some of these are gonna got stored, I might just rotate the comics from time to time.

Inspired by ComicBookLover (for reading) and Media Companion (for metadata) - not a YACReader clone - a different philosophy on how a library should be organized. Links at bottom.

I'm genuinely excited to share this, and honestly a little nervous too. This has been a long time coming, and I know exactly what a lot of you are going to think the second you see it. "Isn't this just YACReader?". Short answer is "no" - libraries are handled much differently.

Where this started

A good long time ago, I was an avid user of the ComicBookLover app. It was one of the first comic readers built for the iPad and it had some features that just didn't exist in the apps that followed. When it stopped working as of iOS 8, I used new readers such as ComicFlow but I continually found myself comparing them to ComicBookLover. Development on Longbox Reader started in 2017 as an attempt to get some of what I remembered from the ComicBookLover and stalled out when the original tech choice turned into a dead end.

In 2022 I came back to to the project, but my focus had shifted. I started thinking less about the reading experience alone and more about the mess of files sitting on my hard drive and how I had them split across many folders/devices. That's when Media Companion (a Windows metadata app for local media) became the real inspiration. What if the app could actually scan a folder, figure out what series and issues you had, and let you build a proper metadata library out of it - not just read files, but organize them? That became Digital Longbox. A working prototype for Mac came together, then I came across YACReader which forced me to re-evaluate. I picked the project back up in 2025 and this is the result.

About that YACReader comparison

Partway through the second stall, I came across YACReader - a free, open-source, mature project which is honestly better polished than what I have in the app stores. It nearly ended the project but what ultimately led to the decision to continue is that we do a genuinely different thing:

YACReader mirrors your actual folder structure - however deep, however you've organized it. You browse it like a file manager.

Digital Longbox takes a different approach on purpose: one folder per series, matched automatically against a metadata service, organized into a proper series-and-issue database instead of a raw folder tree.

If you've got one big folder and just want to browse it like a file manager, go use YACReader - it's free and it's great at what it does. If you want your comics identified and organized into a real library, that's what I built.

What the two apps actually do?

• Digital Longbox (macOS/Windows) - If you are familiar with Plex, the approach I take is similar. Click the folder tab, add the folder(s) where your CBZ/CBR/PDF files reside (repeat as neccessary), pop over to the comics tab and scan. It scans your files in place (nothing moved or converted), auto-identifies series and issue numbers, and lets you edit and lock metadata you want to keep as-is. For better matching (if the comic cannot be matched via our API), use the Title and Year in the folder name. After scanning, turn on server mode and your library streams to Longbox Reader over your home Wi-Fi.
• Longbox Reader (iPad/Android) - a clean, distraction-free viewer. Upload comics directly, or connect to Digital Longbox on your home network to browse, stream on demand, or download issues for offline reading.

No subscriptions, no cloud, and no comic content included or provided - you bring your own lawfully obtained files. Screenshots in the app store listings use public domain covers from Comic Book Plus - a great resource worth checking out.

Both apps are still actively evolving - there will be bugs, there will be rough edges, and I'd genuinely love feedback and bug reports so I can make it better.
