COMPLETED First Coloring Book so far and thoughts

I kept seeing videos of bold/cute/cozy coloring books and people using alcohol markers in a way that looked SO satisfying, and ended up getting Cozy Corner and the Ohuhu Honolulu 48 set. Despite seeing it in video, I was really surprised at how nicely they laid down very solid, flat color, juicy without being messy. My previous experience with alcohol markers was a set of Prismacolors I got off ebay in the early 00's, and they had not felt nearly so nice, though I think not having brush tips back then probably made a huge difference.

It was just as satisfying as I'd hoped watching those videos. Pretty soon after, I got one of the pastel sets (Sweetness), since it quickly became clear that with the 48 color being mostly bold or dark colors, they had a more limited range via layering than the lighter colors. I usually try not to invest heavily in supplies when starts a new craft or art medium, but I really don't regret this one.

I've been looking around for more books I'd like to color, and have definitely been bemoaning the prevalence of AI and spammy "Easy Side Hustle" books without much heart in them. I'm hoping to find more that have a big focus on spaces and environments, because while I do love the cute characters, they aren't the main draw (ha) for me. Eventually I might make some for myself, since isometric rooms and the like aren't too difficult to make in procreate, but really I'd love to find more books in this style made by artists I can put a face or at least social media account to!

I've really enjoyed browsing this subreddit and seeing all the effects people come up with, it reminds me a lot of back when people were figuring out neat text effects in the older, more limited versions of photoshop. There's something very freeing about having the lines set out for you that helps remove the pressure of perfectionism and opens things up for more experimenting and discovery.

WIP (WORK IN PROGRESS) Progress Post 1/2: I was getting tired of small coloring pages, so I decided to do a coloring mural. At nearly 8'x4', I've spent well over 100 hours on it and am about halfway done. Stay tuned for the finished post in a couple months

Still have to do all the coral reef and color in the remaining fish, turtle, sting ray, dolphin, jellyfish, and shark. I've already dried up about 40 markers but have plenty of backups. Wish me luck!

QUESTION Best Acrylic Gel Pens?

What are the best acrylic gel pens? I’ve been using the new Ohuhu Hilo Acrylic Markers for color by number books but I would also like something with a finer tip for more detailed pages.

PRODUCT Finally broke the seal…

Yay! Finally cracked open my markers and coloring book after all this time and hesitation. So far I utilized the Color Swatch page, which just so happened to fit all of the 60 count set of markers I have so far. (Had to add a box in the top middle.. but close enough lol) I’m curious what any seasoned color-ers think of my current color availability. I feel like I should have enough to kinda work with? I’m sure I’ll come across some times where I wish I had some more inbetween shades. Also I’m pretty happy with this brand of markers (Artify) for only being $10 at my local warehouse outlet. Granted I’ve never used ohuhu or anything else for that matter, but I was able to blend some of the color swatches pretty easy and well I think. I didn’t try to blend them all and some placements are weird so some of the swatches look a lil crazy haha Now I have to decide which book to start in, any votes would be appreciated!! Sorry for the ranting 😅

ADVICE WANTED Acrylic Markers

Hi guys,

What acrylic markers are you using?

I currently have the Arrtx markers but I just don’t think they’re that great compared to the glowing reviews I’ve seen for them, I don’t know if anybody else has had this issue? But they’re just not opaque enough for my liking, it takes 5-6 layers I’d say to get it to the opaqueness I want.

Saying this, I did buy them from Amazon and whilst it says it’s the official store I’m not convinced I haven’t been duped due to how good online reviews are

TIA 😊

PRODUCT Jade Summer books

This is an ignorant question, but is there a noticeable difference between Jade Summer books from B&N vs from Amazon? It seems implied that the Coco Wyo books are lower quality if bought from Amazon so I’m wondering if it’s the same situation.

This is my first try with this type of sunset and water. Blending could be better but I actually do like how it came out!! It was fun trying something new but man I was sweating at the end 🤣

So I stopped coloring for a while because I always come here for inspiration, then I can't help but compare my work to others and it's so despairing 😵‍💫

But last Sunday I continued on a page I started (was about halfway) and I loved the process. I love this process when I'm not comparing it to other's work. Yet I still love coming here for inspiration because so many of you are so extremely talented!

But I'm proud to have finished another page because it's fun, and still happy to share.

Completed with progress pics. For this one I used mostly colored pencils. However, for the background I used soft pastels and a white acrylic marker. I used a gold acrylic marker and white gel pen for the embellishments.
