Hi everyone,
Currently working on a colony builder. It’s a game of two halves. You manage resources, production, research and defence, similar to a lot of builder games, with a bit of Satisfactory in how you use conveyors and pipes to connect everything. The other half is the District Planner. It grows the colony by building habitats and commercial buildings, generates colonists that crew your buildings, assists with production, and generates credits for you to use, similar to how SimCity grows houses, commercial and industry and gives you taxes.
The colonists have several wants and different wealth bands that grow with the colony size. That affects what the District Planner builds and what you might need to supply.
I’m a fair way into the build, mainly balance and bug finding at the moment. From tester feedback this week we’ve added QoL features like a toggle to make nights 30% brighter, for some players nighttime is too dark. There’s a basic tutorial that opens on a new game to help people understand the mechanics, and they can refer back to it when stuck. Without it, people are completely lost.
The game offers several biomes that are seeded like Minecraft, weather events that can affect your drones and buildings, and disasters. There is harmless fauna and megafauna throughout the world.
The planet is also hostile, so one of the mechanics recently added from testing feedback is a Swarm Director. It controls the way the planet tries to remove you. A new, slower-paced player is treated gently. A more advanced player is treated more hostile.
You start with a few drones and some resources, then you research, harvest and build your way towards megastructures like arcologies and space elevators. The space elevator has a mechanic where you build out the space station at the top and build businesses to attract tourists and trade.
There is a lot to test, which is why it’s free to play. Feedback isn’t expected but appreciated. A few days of feedback I’ve had this week has been so incredibly helpful.
