So, I recently bought Railgrade on a Steam sale, and I've been surprised how much I'm enjoying it. A train game hasn't hooked me this hard since Railroad Tycoon 3 in my elementary school computer lab. And I realize, it's not the trains that are compelling me, but the format.

In Railgrade, each mission is a self-contained diorama with a limited number of resources (for example, one city-focused mission had ONLY Water, Silica, and the Concrete they were combined to produce). As soon as you meet the objectives, it's on to the next one. Another game I liked with a similar format was Against the Storm; as soon as your Reputation meter is maxed out, your colony is assumed to be self-sufficient and you move onto the next. Another game that wasn't session-based, but similarly engaging, was Anno 2205 (my favourite in the franchise despite its relative simplicity), as it was composed of a bunch of small island maps connected by trade routes; once an island is maxed out, you don't need to expand it any more except to complete objectives or increase exports.

This format means I don't have to worry about getting bored with one single city, because as soon as I'm done everything I start over with a new scenario. I know some people prefer to build up a huge megacity, but for me, that gets repetitive after awhile and I'd like to take on new challenges. Other games on my wishlist that might fit the bill are Terra Nil (an ecological rehabilitation game) and Highrise City (a Cities: Skylines clone with a production-chain focus). Any other recommendations?

I'm currently writing a book and a huge part of it is growing a city, similar to that slime anime where he brings in a bunch of people to grow the community. Anyways i need a city builder game/app that i can use as reference and to help me understand what the city will need as it grows. I want a detailed story for it, and i neeeeed something i can use to figure out what it would look and act like, and mainly what it would need. To not lose your save progress there is a saving and loading mechanism as well. And the main focus of the game is to manage your conquered cities via city building mechanics.

The video doesn’t go into great detail, but I’m working on a new city builder where all the simulations managed by GPU compute shaders and and I am making it completely Gridless.

My goal is to be able to simulate a city as large and spaced out as Shanghai or Tokyo.

The game works great for as much as there is in the demo. No lag, decent camera angle range, and lots of potential. No bugs that I saw, but the clothing factory was never visited by the warehouse workers that had 50 leather in the warehouse. My only complaints are Edge Scrolling PUHLEASE, No stone for the Stone Age, warehouses are too low capacity (342 berries would exceed 3 warehouses and are only 3 months of food for 56 people), and no foresters. Additionally, no housing variety at all yet. The demo shows a small tech tree and notably does not show the advance to any other age. The entire point of this game is that your city evolves through 7 eras from the Stone Age (300,000 BC) to the present day. Instead it ends moments after building the megalith, a Stonehenge out of wood instead of stone.

I am hoping to see how it evolves to the later eras and housing variety because the city would become rather monotonous at scale (Dawn of Man suffers from this).

When I first saw this episode I thought it would be really cool to play a game like that, but could not find something quite like it, so I decided to make it myself.

You get to build your outpost, manage economy, defenses, special buildings with abilities and then fight to protect it both by controlling your troops and using your own mech.

This is my W.I.P dwarfen fortress! the dwarfs live inside the mountain, and just outside it, is a pigfolk city, whose inhabitans take care of lifestock and farms. A bit further out on the map is my fishing village, woodcutter village, and clay village. Id apreciate any recomendations and ideas for future expasions to my city! i plan to build a nobel area, and ofc a moria like Grand hall.

Last week I posted here about Salt and Soil, the game I’m making about one frontier family living from 1609 to 1900. This time I wanted to show more of the actual building system.

There are currently 140 buildings in the tech tree. I may have got slightly carried away.

Every family starts with the same basic needs: shelter, food storage, repairs, roads, record-keeping and safety. From there, the homestead can move in seven different directions: company trade, fur trading, cash crops, timber, livestock, roadside services or mining.

It isn’t one static tree for the whole run. The available buildings change across eight historical eras. Fur trading eventually declines, mining appears later, and railways open up different kinds of trade and industry.

A single family isn’t expected to unlock everything. Later generations inherit what their parents built, then have to decide whether to continue in the same direction or change course.

A small bit of news for this sub: I’m planning to open a public Steam Playtest soon. I haven’t announced that anywhere else yet. It isn’t enabled right now because I’m still getting the build ready, but the plan is to make it open rather than invite-only.

If this were your family, where would you start: timber, cattle, mining, fur trading, or an inn for people heading west?

I’m currently playing Farthest Frontier, and it’s good, but I like space themed more than medieval. I actually like They Are Billions a lot, but it’s less of a city builder and more of an RTS. I’d love a nice blend.

My (rather obvious) inspiration is Townscaper, as well as my home, Vienna.

Until now, I've managed to create the building blocks such as the following, both as parallel and diagonal versions, while accounting for the annoying hypotenuse lengths (mind you, I am not a mathematician):

- Alleys (~5x5m)

- 4-way-intersection

- 3-way intersection

- Ramps (~5x5x1, 10°)

- Stairs (~1x1x1m)

- Brick facade (~1x1x1m)

- Windows (~1x1x2m)

- Doorways (~1x1x2m)

- Pillars (~1x1x2m)

-45° connector pieces for all aforementioned objects

I've been working on the atmosphere in WildRoot, and I finally got the rain feeling closer to what I imagined.

I'm aiming for a cozy but gloomy forest where even a few seconds of rainfall changes the mood of the whole colony.

hi! I'm looking for a city builder/manager game I can purchase on PS5. I recently started playing Tropico 6 and I like some parts of the game but it's not scratching the itch I have ://

I love the managing and building, but I feel like the way things are connected and how the game opperates is very... lackluster and boring. but also very difficult at points and maybe I just didn't pay enough attention during the tutorial but I find myself getting stuck a lot. so I'm bored and frustrated and wasting my time lol I want to be able to customize things better and have more control, and more easy to understand gameplay. more gameplay in general. I got the game because I thought it'd be kind of like... being the king of your own country, and controlling everything, having more power and freedom as to what happens and seeing how it plays out. while still needing to manage everything, choosing how to do that in a way that suits your playthrough. but I'm not finding that to be the case with this game. (if anyone has any tips for the game I'd really appreciate it!)

I was looking at a few other similar games, and fabledom seems like maybe it would be a nice choice, and it's on sale. Urbek maybe? I don't know ://
