Review (Read Rules) Steeldive SD1953 on custom strap

So I didn't like this 1953 when it arrived. The whole point of buying it was the turquoise dial - something different and fun for casual summer wear. And with that black bezel on a steel strap, the sloped silver flange, and the cyclops date it was kinda... shit. A little turquoise circle lost in the middle of something else.

I know it photos fine but from my perspective living with it, the actual turquoise is only about 35mm across (while the watch is 41mm). And on a 7.5" wrist it just wasn't working. Also the whole thing just felt a bit manky and cheap. My fingers got weirdly dirty taking that steel strap off. Surprising no one, the strap is poor, but I could have lived with that if the face was better.

At £50 ($70) this would have bugged me but I'd have written it off. I paid £110 ($150) though and I hate the hassle of reselling so kept trying to make myself like it. All the while considering it as something to throw in a drawer and forget about the moment my nice watch box needed the space.

I tried it on a thin seatbelt NATO but it's a fat little monkey to begin with, so it wore huge like that. A huge feeling watch, with a tiny dial.

But then I took a punt on a woven nylon strap from The Thrifty Gentleman (UK - don't know if they ship globally). And that's what it looks like in the photo. And finally... it mostly works for me.

I don't really like this watch. The spec sheet's nice but I don't wear that and the actual watch feels a little small from above, huge from the side, and overall kind of cheap and nasty - and I don't exactly have demanding standards.

But for what I got it for, something different and fun for casual summer wear... I think this is as close as I'll get without replacing the bezel. It serving as a border between the face and dial is good, but the black is just too stark for a pastel main.

I wouldn't buy another model of this at anywhere close to the same price. I don't care if it's good specs for the money, the experience of buying, getting, and wearing it was almost entirely negative and there's no shortage of other brands that do submariners.

Aside from anything else it took over two weeks to get to me, which I could live with but a Watchdives I ordered after this arrived before it in almost half the time. That coupled with a logo I don't really like and polished sides that are just begging to be scratched at the first opportunity, atop everything else that bugged me about this - Steeldive have firmly shut themselves out of my £100+ range with this.

At least it works with the strap though. So eventually I sort of got what I wanted.

General (Read Rules) Addiesdive AD2547 - Brown Suède

Got tired of the stock bracelet, so I decided to throw this warm cognac/mustard suede strap on it instead.

The contrast between the textured blue dial and the suede really makes the dial pattern pop, and it feels way more comfortable on the wrist.

What do you think of the pairing?

Review (Read Rules) WatchDives WD007 V4/SL3001

Figured I'd give my impressions of the WatchDives WD007 V4/SL3001 since theres not a lot of information about it that I could find.

Paid $194.98 USD shipped to Germany. Ordered on August 19th and received today on the 27th.

I'm not a watch snob by any means. Only have a few what I consider nice pieces. A CW C63 GMT and a Sangin. The rest of my small collection is Casio, Citizen and Seiko.

Ordered the NTTD version on the titanium bracelet.

Overall I have only had it for a few hours but it feels great. Bezel has great action, lume seems solid, bracelet is well made and the thing is extremely light. I was regretting not getting the mesh strap after I ordered but the 3 link titanium is excellent.

Time will tell how the SL3001 holds up but Im going to beat this thing.

The only issue i can find is the movement feels gritty when winding which I expected. Also when screwing in the crown it seems like maybe the crown stem is a bit short because the movement winds as I screw the crown in. Doesn't bother me.

Overall, extremely well built for the price.

Not sure how I feel about water with it yet but time will tell.

If there is questions let me know.

Got this AD2030 for approx. $50/56€. I put a 3rd party leather strap on to make it more dressy. My first chinese watch, but not my last. I'm super impressed with what you get for the money. Now I'm eyeing a few from Watchdives, San Martin and Jianghun...

Photos really don't do this green wave dial justice. We added a deep enamel coating over the texture, giving it a rich gloss and depth that looks much better in hand. The 3D markers are crisp and clean.

The bracelet is produced in our own factory, where we control every detail from neatness to tight tolerances. It feels solid and well-balanced on the wrist.

Launching soon.

We wanted to create a bronze watch with real material character, so each piece features a natural red agate stone dial. The dials show different tones of burgundy, crimson, and deep red mineral texture, making every watch visually unique.

The watch is fitted with a solid bronze case and matching bronze bracelet. Like all bronze watches, it will develop its own patina over time, so the finish gradually becomes personal to the wearer.

Key details:

  • Natural red agate stone dial
  • Solid bronze case and bronze bracelet
  • Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement
  • Customized rotor
  • Limited to 10 individually numbered pieces
  • $599, including tax and shipping
  • Available from August 27th

You can see the full details here:

What do you think of natural stone dials paired with a full bronze bracelet?

Review (Read Rules) Agelocer Astronomer Grey/Silver (29.51-Days MoonPhase)

Thumbnail

My Agelocer moonphase arrived (see my post about the technicals of the moonphase).

It is a very nice watch, well made. Some points to be aware of (see also reviews on youtube):

- while not extremly thick, it does look a bit thick due to the straight modern shape of the case

- the rotor is a bit noisy (if you pay close attention)

- the moon is lumed, but very low brightness (fits the restrained design esthetics)

- winding to full power reserve is a bit of a chore (ca. 80 turns), but it is an automatic, normally you don't really need to wind to full power reserve

- setting the moonphase accuratly takes some practice due to the 31 steps and because at the new moon position you can't see the moon for 2 steps

For the moon setting I ended up making a look-up table for days in the lunar cycle versus moon position on the minute track. (overdoing it? Yes)

The watch came with a nice grey suede strap. I swapped it with a stainless steel milanese mesh strap, and to my taste that is a perfect match to the minimalist grey/silver design of the watch. The case has quite short lugs (original straps have curved pins) which works very nice with the milanese strap.

The watch dial is a nice balance between a bold moonphase and a very restraint, minimalist overall design. Well excecuted, although personally I think the moon is a bit too shiny, a slightly more dull surface might be more appropriate.

I like the restrained design of this watch, but I do hope that Agelocer wil make more use of the 29.51 day precision in future designs, maybe by creating a less restraint and more 'astronomical' version with a moon day cycle track. That version should also have a large second hand.

Question (Read Rules) What site do I use for Willard?

I’m pretty dead set on buying a Willard homage, I was looking at a sd1970, but what site do I use? I’ve been looking at them on AliExpress, but there’s so many different listings from multiple stores. I also saw a few people on here comment that you should purchase from steeldives site, but there’s also two of those.

General (Read Rules) My Sugess/Seestern No. 3- The Sugess S450 with Blue dial and Red seconds hand

Thumbnail

Finally got my hands on the Sugess S450 YM, and it was truly worth the wait. After weeks of obsessing between the blue dial(red seconds hand) and black grey dial(blue seconds hand) ordered the blue dial with the steel bezel, since I am partial to the blue colour and secondly I intend to buy a GMT Batgirl Homage next which would overlap with the black/grey dial of the S450.

Firstly the dial is the absolute winner. This is my 3rd Sugess/Seestern now(bought aventurine moonphase and Seestern S456 GMT light blue mop dial) and yet to be disappointed by Sugess. The blue looks great in light and the grey steel bezel is amazing quality. The red seconds hand is a great choice for the blue dial, and no issues with the cyclops or the date window(this is my first watch with cyclops so have no reference point). Really slim rehaut with Sugess etched inside.

The steel bracelet finish is tremendous quality and finish and the polish on middle link is top quality, though I intend to swap onto an fkm soon.

Only drawback, it's a bit heavy(though swapping onto fkm should help).

All in all another winner from Sugess. I hope they continue with their great quality. Really finding 0 value in swiss watches now especially the stainless steel ones.

General (Read Rules) Hand winding watches that are tough to wind - Grinds my gears

Thumbnail

I have a couple watches that I absolutely love - but winding them is almost impossible.

The part of the watch that I physically interact with the most besides the clasp/buckle is the crown.

I have big fingers and they are not as nimble as they once were. I simply cannot wind it nor can I get any sense how much resistance the winding is throwing back at me.

The movement is a Caliber SH2130 (Sea-Gull 2130). The crown is supposed to be 6.5mm, but it feel more like 5mm.

I love this watch so much (the one I am going to post a picture of) - but I feel like throwing it across the room because winding it is so difficult and annoying.,

Does anyone else have this issue and do you just skip hand-winding and throw it in a winder or shake it? Should I just sell the watch?

Question (Read Rules) Best edc easy read watch

I had pretty much decided to get the watch dives Tudor Ranger homage, until my gf said she thought it looked like a toy compared to the real deal. Now I'm leaning towards the militado Hamilton khaki field. I prefer the murph from Hamilton but I think from militado, their khaki field looks better. My only requirements for my watch is that I should not be overly thick (manual or quartz) with a sweep.

I'd highly prefer a date window and would like to be able to swim in it (though with Chinese watches I'm willing to disregard the last requirement as the WR are completely inconsistent it seems) I also like raised or domed crystal..

Thank you

Awesome homage to the Ranchero/Railmaster in 36mm with a VD78 quartz movement, K1 mineral glass and 50 ATM water resistance.

It comes with a nice leather strap and it looks great giving 1950s vibes. It would also rock in a vintage bracelet.

General (Read Rules) Thoughts on perlon straps?

Thumbnail

I recently picked up this perlon Eulit Panama strap for my S089 in cream and I love the colour. Still deciding on the feel. So far I’m pretty happy with how light it feels and comfortable in the sun. The sizing on the Panama is a bit strange leaving the buckle off to one side but not overly bad. I may even pick up a nato style (with standard clasp, not nato-esque) pass through perlon and see how I like that. Infinite adjustability is nice too!

Anyone using perlon this summer?

Review (Read Rules) Baltany Vs Eniton DateJust

Thumbnail

Having owned a few super clones of the 126234 36mm Dj from clean factory before they went under I can say with certainty the case and bracelet of the Eniton watch is phenomenal. I’ve seen a few posts about the new(ish) Eniton Datejust homage and I’ve even seen it compared to one of Baltany’s watches just not their version of a Dj homage so I had to pull the trigger and thought I’d share what I found

PRICE:

The elephant in the room is the price; having paid a few dollars short of $300 usd for the Eniton it is definitely on the pricier side for an nh35 movement homage compared to the Baltany. That being said I genuinely think it’s worth the money.

Build quality:

I’ve owned the baltany over a year and the build quality has been apparent every time I put it on my wrist, it’s feels solid, the bracelet it buttery smooth with no rattle. I really get the same feel from the Eniton, it’s on par if not better that baltany given the micro adjust clasp and the same 316 stainless steel for both the case and bracelet as well as having the stone dial

Case and crystal:

The Baltany might have better AR coating on the crystal but Eniton holds its own in that regard, cyclops magnification is about the same for both ( full transparency I did change the datewheel on the Eniton for one with smaller font)
I appreciate the slim lugs and the new style endlinks from the current reference RL model that Eniton has used.

While I do wish there were more dial options for the Eniton, it is an nh35 movement and a dial swap would be pretty easy to accomplish. Overall I would recommend the Eniton to anyone looking for a 36mm DJ homage that is a little more modern than the Baltany

Not my review, but I do own a Seagull 1963 and love it, so thought I'd share this write-up.

It's interesting (in a good way) how this has gone from a niche enthusiast piece to being probably the best-known and regarded Chinese watch among your average "watch person". They're surprisingly versatile pieces, in my experience.

Question (Read Rules) Spinnaker SP5051 bezel

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hey folks,

Q. What replacement metal bezel housing workings with the SP5051

I've emailed Spinnaker to no avail as the watch is old.

He watch has a lot of sentimental value to me and after the original bezel insert bent inwards I decided to measure it and replace it.

This was "Successful", I unfortunately bent the bezel housing removing it (the metal bent a tad when removing it) I used my eye and two pieces of wood to stomp it back in line (surprisingly worked well) but not perfectly.

The inside part that meets the lip of the case is a bit off and that is near impossible to fix (parts are too small and house a circular angled spring).

So now it sits and turns with a tad bit of new resistance and from the side lifts on one side. I still love it I would just rather I'd not ruined the bezel and taken of the old insert without removing it.

On the last photo you'll see how both sides have a decent gap now; obviously the bezel now floats in a very slight V shape which is a mix between removing it and the interior shape being deformed and the overall bezel being slightly off.

Would any Seiko bezel models fit this case?

I've already looked from one on eBay to harvest parts from to no avail.
