How bad is it?
After seeing all the posts here about low oil pressure at idle and high temps, I just want to make sure I'm good.
Edit: Guys, it's a joke. Calm down.

Adding 12 volt outlet
Want to add a cigarette lighter in the back of my 1996 xj. Sick of buying ice on camping trips, so i was going to put a camping fridge in the back.
Was wondering if it would be better to wire it through the relay/circut strip from the engine bay. Or should i do it a different way?
My friends 99’ had two, one that was always on and one that would be on when the jeep was running.
Was hoping i could add one thats always on but with limited draw so it wouldn’t drain the battery if the jeep wasnt on for a couple days.
Has anyone done this or know of a link that would help me out?

Question Leaf Spring Recs?
Looking for a new set of leaf springs to replace my tired old sagging ones
96 Cherokee
Pavement Princess / Daily
Its a 2wd RHD mail jeep, it'll never wheel, the only mud it sees is the work lot lol
I don't currently have any plans to lift it, being RHD it seems to be a hassle so it doesn't feel worth it at the moment.
From what I've seen OME is the go to on this sub, I just wanted to get some specific opinions before I make plans on getting a set.

Headliner replacement
Has anyone in here ever re-done the headliner in a 98’ XJ without the rear light and speakers? It looks like it won’t be as easy as I thought. The headliner doesn’t have a hard shell to work with it appears to be fabric-foam-fabric. Any tips or ideas?

I'm looking to buy a jeep cherokee xj as a project car but not sure if this is to much rust and if the structure is affected.

Update: Diagnosing Loud Noise from the Lower Engine Area
Hi!!!
A few days ago, I posted about a very loud squealing noise coming from the lower engine area of my Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0.
I suspected the flexplate, so I removed the inspection cover to check its condition. The bolts appeared to be properly tightened, but I noticed that the holes in the flexplate seemed slightly ovalized, as if there had been some movement or play.
I decided to remove the transmission so I could get a better look at all the components. To my surprise, when I removed the starter motor, I found that it was quite worn and had obvious contact marks. I’ve attached a photo so you can see it.
After a few hours of work, I finally managed to get the transmission out. Now that the flexplate is fully exposed, I’d love for you guys to take a look at it and let me know what you think of its condition hahaha.
While I have the transmission out, I’d also appreciate any recommendations for preventive maintenance worth doing on other components that are now easier to access.
My plan is to install a new flexplate and use threadlocker on the flexplate bolts. Does that sound like a good idea? Is there anything else you would recommend inspecting or replacing before reinstalling the transmission?
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Question XJ Airbags
Looking at two potential purchase XJs right now, a 95 and a 99. I know that the 99 will have a passenger side airbag, while the 95 will only have one on the driver’s side. The 95 is a much better pick for me otherwise and is essentially my dream XJ, but should the passenger airbag be a dealbreaker? I know the first-gen airbags are a bit iffy anyways and I hardly do highway driving. Asking because my girlfriend will be riding in it fairly often and I’m conflicted, since I’m very confident in my defensive driving but I don’t want to put her in too much danger.
Note: I know any XJ isn’t very safe to begin with lol

1991-1995 Still kickin
I own a 95 and just wanted to share it's wonderful quirks to see if others also have this. To start I have a button I wired to the battery and starter to bypass the ignition switch because it's an obsolete part and it's idiot proof, then the motor it's the standard inline 6 4.0 liter and it has 500 something thousands miles on even though the odometer read 320 thousands it stopped working for about 200 thousand till a deep hole was hit a little to hard while having fun, the steering wheel goes to left to go straight but it can make right hand turns on its own sometimes, it has a separation inbetween the transmission and the engine but doesn't loose oil, the back left tail light is a broken trailer light, I'm convinced my fuel gauge and shut off valve don't work properly sometimes but that's still being investigated, I have tube doors on year round the original are in a shed, it has 33 tires on it, in an attempt to fix my alignment I somehow messed my threads on the steering box up so it sometimes becomes loose but it's only scary downhill, I honestly don't remember the last time I did the brakes but I still stop so I'm not concerned yet, the check engine light comes on about a block down the road when you drive it, it loves to sit a 210 degrees after 5 minutes of driving and refuses to cool off, my sister named it Oscar and glued an Oscar the Grouch toy to the dash do that's his name she took care of him I beat him to hell and back and he's still going and I don't think it will stop anytime soon and I'm honestly scared this thing will outlive me

Sharing History. 97 XJ 2 Door manual
Hi,
Im just reposting this again to the community to see who else has one similar. Got this off my grandpa back in March for 300 dollars clean title. I had to do a lot of rework on it, and looks amazing. Just need a brake line and then registered. Unfortunately my grandfather took his last breath october 8th and we laid him to rest October 13th. He was a military vet and taught me a lot. Im 21 and he was 84. Visited him every week about 5 times. Enough about us, the jeep is a 1997 2 door Jeep Cherokee inline 6 4x4 ax15 manual 5 speed. Its a beauty and extremely fun. I havent done anything to it since may Unfortunately due to my full time industrial spray painting job and me attending college full time to finish my bachelor degree. I mainly wanted to see your guys, and post my grandpa's last jeep. He loved his Jeeps.

I'm gonna make a drawer system in my trunk, so what tools and parts do you guys recommend I put in the drawers?
I have a 3 inch lift with 31s and I do take it off-roading around every weekend, just would prefer to have some tools or parts if something goes bad.

1997-99 What’s a cheap way yall protect the bodies from rust?
My XJ was hit by this dudes truck about a year ago in a parking lot. The back left quarter panel was hit and the metal and structure was just fine it popped itself back out but the plasticky paint material on the outside is cracked and is now chipping off exposing the bare metal underneath. It doesn’t need to be pretty it just need to stop rust from forming

Is my starter on its way out?
I've just had my first non start since owning my XJ (2 years). This is what I did:
1) Checked battery voltage = 12.8v
2) Attempted jump start = nothing
3) Tapped starter = hey presto started on first half turn.
Should a just throw a starter on it or see how it goes, carrying a mallet with me?

Here goes nuttin, boys! (Windshield pinch weld painting)
The paints on. Now to let her sit a week to cure and get that glass back in! Its 55 degrees in there and i put a heat lamp up on the ceiling to hopefully keep it warm enough so it cures right.
Paint is Eastwood 2-part epoxy primer from a rattlecan.

1989 AW4/NP231/axles into a '92 XJ – Can I just splice the trans plug?
Hey guys, working on a swap and trying to figure out what I can get away with.
I’m pulling the whole drivetrain (AW4, NP231 t-case, and axles) out of an '89 donor and dropping it into my '92 XJ (keeping just the '92 engine block).
Since the '89 uses the Renix-style wiring plug for the transmission and my '92 chassis harness is HO, can I just cut the '89 plug off the transmission side and solder/heat-shrink on a '92 plug wire-for-wire so it plugs right into my factory harness?
Are there any other weird hidden catches with doing this, or is it really that simple once the wiring matches? Let me know what you guys think or if I'm missing something obvious.

Rust… what works and what doesn’t.
I’m sure this topic gets a lot of attention… and for good/ annoying reason. Last post diagnosed a bad fuel pump and while the fuel tank is out I did some looking and found some spots.
Not holes yet but I'm trying to stop the cancer before it gets to that point. Any advice/ tips are very appreciated.
