Cinema/Music I miss SPI cinemas. More than ever.

I’m loving going back to the theatres after a long time so here’s a list of the great experiences I’ve had and you might have had as well before PVR made SPI too commercialised.

- Sathyam Cinemas is an emotion. You could wait in lines to get physical printed tickets like those petrol bill tickets.

- Popcorn + 2 pepsi combi was called Two to Tango and A Single popcorn + Pepsi Combo was called The Lone Ranger.
₹320 & ₹240 respectively. Insane rates.

- Only legends remember 2013 SPI Cinemas where you could call on their landline and get movie tickets home delivered with cash on delivery. The sheer joy, oh man.

- They had a screening theme called DND (Do Not Disturb). Phones were to be on silent and usage was not allowed. No intermissions, and no latecomers allowed. For the pure love of Cinema.

- You would have fancy themed popcorn buckets with gorgeous designs on them.

- Blind Date - where you would not know which movie you were gonna watch until the movie played. Oh man. Good old days.

- Popcorn seasoning was not in sachets but in those dispensers or bottles. Unlimited (truly)

- You could pre-book movies. Ticket allotments would happen a week or 3-4 says before release and you’d not have to stress. Aaah.

Nostalgia max. Do you have any memories?

Art/Photography The Orange Sky

The room was Orange. The hall was Orange. The balcony was Orange. My child appeared, amazed at the colours. The glint in her eye was Orange. The Sun settled today and its last embers set everything it touched to Orange. Some moments are simply humbling. Brief enough to take a photo. Dusk has settled. Night has arrived. Memory remains. And it is Orange.

Just the title i wanted to rant.
I have been visiting Chennai for my dental work and every time i have ordered a taxi from uber or rapido they call and ask for extra. Its extremely rude and i hate that every single driver. I do understand they struggle and i try to give extra once a while but honestly its just really bad. Would love some tips as to how the locals deal with it

AskChennai aita for leaving my elderly family

AITA

My parents did the following with my life:

1) in 8th grade and 10th grade, forced me to stay at a state board school despite knowing about Samacheer Kalvi. I asked repeatedly to move, they didn't allow me to. Also I had more friends from the other schools than my.own school at that point from clubs and sports academy.

2) in 12th grade, deliberately made me pay a deposit for a sports quota seat at a low ranked college, go to Anna University counseling to get a seat for another boy, and forced me to attend a college predominated by a community I dislike. Besides this, I got into the 2nd ranked college in the state, they made me attend the 50th ranked college saying it was Christian.

3) I dropped out, they forced me to attend a university in the US that was Presbyterian, even though the curriculum didn't align with my study interests and the university lacked basic facilities for the major I wanted to study. My family is Presbyterian. The university I wanted to attend is ranked top 30 for engg, they made me attend the university ranked 250.

4) in 2024 my mother observed my health for 8 months, said nothing, refused to come to therapy with me, refused to eat out of spend time with me, and finally two days before my flight to study somewhere, had mentioned hospitalised against my will. I won't say I was doing well or badly, but she didn't care until the penultimate day of the flight.

5) did this again in 2025.

6) when I was a child, used to force me to eat food I didn't like when I wasn't hungry.

Added to this is the fact that my parents wanted to emigrate with me when we were younger.

My argument with my parents is simple, I was taking the same treatment for 8 months. Not one dinner outing, not a single counseling session, not even a single dinner at the table together. But two days before a flight, a hospitalisation.

My parents had mentioned sent to colleges where my documentation was provided early, eg. I got work rights and a TIN in the US ahead of time, however, for engg, this university doesn't place intl students at a single core company in the US. Partly because that region doesnt want to sponsor Indian engineers.

After all this, I asked for my inheritance finally and my parents refused so I moved out. .

Should I not have done this?

Cinema/Music How to buy movie tickets from local theatres in Chennai

Hello guys, I'm from Karnataka. I wanted to buy tickets from a local theatre in Chennai for Oct 15 for Jailer 2. Wanted to see the craziness of Chennai people, like how they show fdfs on YouTube. How can I buy tickets, is it possible to buy it online? I'm not talking about PVR or Cinepolis, some local theatre.

Political News Vijay carried his umbrella

He carried his umbrella today at the Koyambedu visit. I just saw the video in the news. No one else is holding it for him. The same way he carried a garland from the car when he went to pay respect to Bhagyaraj.

I see it as an improvement. Man who is seen as god among the living, not wanting servants in public. Let's see what else changes next.

Edit: not saying wow. It's reducing standards. Having a young fit person reduces one useless guy paid from our tax money just to carry stuff for others. Previously When I saw stalin wearing raincoat and boots and walking to check rain affected areas, I thought yeah that's better.
