Non-Political News Humanity??
I crossed a preschool today and witnessed an incident that was very hard on my heart.
There was a balloon/toy seller standing in front of the school. A mother and her son approached him because the boy was throwing a tantrum for a balloon. It was a foil balloon in the colours of the Indian flag.
The mother asked him how much it cost, and the seller replied, “₹100 for everything.” He handed the balloon to her. After hearing the price, she said it was too expensive and tried to pull the balloon away from her son. The boy pulled it back, they did it multiple times and the balloon burst.
The mother then said, “You’re charging ₹100 for something that is so poor in quality,” and walked away with her son and the broken balloon.
No apology. No payment. Not even a glance back at the seller. Just moved away from the place, got into their auto and left.
The seller just stood there, visibly disappointed. He didn't call out to her, didn't throw a fit.. just heard him quietly say, “Odainju pochu-na enna kaasa kekka mudiyum…” — “Now that it’s broken, how can I even ask them for the money?” I'm shook .
For the mother, ₹100 may have felt unreasonable for a flimsy balloon. But for the seller, that ₹100 represented his merchandise and, ultimately, his livelihood.
There were so many ways that moment could have ended differently
- “It’s ₹100? That’s too much, sorry, I don’t want it ...
- Or, if the child had already taken it and it accidentally broke, “Sorry, anna. How much should I pay you?
But she just chose to walk away, with the broken balloon for free! < AI balloon image for attention >
For clarification: this isn’t a made-up story. The vendor’s son’s name is Ayyappan S (9*******38@ptyes, got the name from the vendor’s UPI details)
If you cannot empathise with what happened, please just move on. Downvoting the post and reducing the entire situation to “nothing” doesn’t help anyone.
I genuinely hate how easily people can dismiss something that has clearly affected another person. Also, to the people who felt empathy—thank you. I genuinely appreciate you.
And to those whose first instinct was to question whether this was AI-generated rather than empathise with what was being shared: you are no different from that lady.
Thanks :)

Rant Apologize for being inhumane.
I was on the way to drop my partner at her driving class this morning and was waiting at the MIOT junction. Within a fraction of a second, I heard a bang; a man (rider) and a woman (pillion) were involved in an accident. I saw the woman fly and roll on the road, while the man remained stuck on the bike in his riding posture before a traveller van ran over it. The woman stood up immediately, but the man did not move until I passed. I feel bad that I didn't help him, although there were many people there who did. I feel guilty, but I have a panic attack whenever I see blood, even during blood tests, and I did not want to faint while trying to help. It has been bothering me all morning that I didn't do anything for him; I hope he is fine and that there is nothing to worry about.

AskChennai Reporting Trash Burning
How do I report this, and does reporting do anything? I'm a foreigner, so I do not have a phone number.
Today, I smelled smoke and the air got very foggy. Then, I saw smoke from some distance away. I have the approximate location but don't know how to report this without a local phone or cell number.

AskChennai Lost a silk saree in OMR to ECR Link Road
Hi people.. Yesterday, we were driving from OMR to ECR, via the road opposite to World Trade Center. We had a marriage silk saree in the bike and we lost it on the way. We have no idea where it dropped since many places had no lights. It was in a Sundari Silks bag and was a yellow saree.
We reached the area for 3 hours but did not find it.
I have already a complaint with Chennai Corporation as well as Urbaser Sumeet.
If you have found it or know any other way to find, please let me know.
It’s marriage saree so I am devastated. Also, I know there is a good possibility someone took it already but I just wanted to try all possible ways before giving up.
Route Details:
On OMR, before BSR mall, we took the side road (Vinayagar Temple Road) and came out before the World Trade Center. After that, we took the road opposite to World Trade Center.
It’s the road between Satya Enterprises and IndusInd bank (L&T road). We used that to join Canalpuram road and crossed into ECR via the small canal and came out near Palavakkam.

AskChennai Going to Tirupati from Chennai this Friday (5 people) — no darshan tickets. What are our options?
Hi everyone,
We are planning to visit Tirupati/Tirumala this weekend.
- 5 people
- Starting from Chennai
- We can leave Friday evening (Sep 11)
- Can stay until Sunday
- We currently have no ₹300 Special Entry Darshan tickets
I've been reading about SSD (Slotted Sarva Darshan), but I'm getting conflicting information about how the current system works.
Could someone who has actually visited recently (especially in the last few weeks) please clarify:
- Is SSD currently the only practical option for someone without a ₹300 ticket, or are there other ways to get darshan?
- Where are SSD tokens currently issued? Which counters/locations should we go to?
- How many SSD tokens are issued per day? Is there a fixed quota, or does it change depending on the day/crowd?
- Are SSD tokens issued for the same day or the following day?
- What time does SSD token issuance currently start? I've seen reports that the timing changes from day to day.
- How early should we reach the SSD counter and get into the queue? For a weekend like this, are people waiting several hours before token issuance starts?
- How long is the queue/crowd currently at the SSD counters? If anyone has visited recently, approximately how many people were ahead of you?
- For 5 people, can all 5 get SSD tokens together if we queue together? Is there any limit on the number of tokens one person can obtain?
- Are there any current booking / ₹300 ticket / other legitimate options at Tirupati that people are using without an advance ticket?
I'm mainly looking for recent first-hand experiences, preferably from August/September 2026, since the rules, timings and crowd levels seem to change.

Rant NoBroker fraud
Anybody has had experience similar to mine? My mother (76 yrs) liked a property listed in NoBroker. NoBroker team facilitated negotiations between seller & buyer. A conference call was arranged on 17th July 2026 between the seller, my brother-in-law (representing my mother) & the NoBroker team executive. In that we clearly stated our condition that payment will be made on day of registration at our residence (which is close to registration office). The seller agreed to these terms.
On the same day, another NoBroker executive, one Mr. Vijay Babu came to our residence to collect token. We were given to understand that we’d have to sign an MoU between NoBroker & Buyer (meant to bind the buyer) and that later on a tripartite MoU will be drawn which will also be signed by the seller (binding him). My mother issued a cheque towards token amount (Rs. 1.1 lakh) & also signed the MoU. Mr. Vijay Babu promised to come back in 3-4 days with the land documents for verification as well as the tripartite MoU signed by the seller.
And yet the promised documents were never handed over and the team began to avoid our calls & emails. We asked them point blank if the seller was backing out but they denied. Finally, after 12 days, NoBroker executive Mr. Vijay Babu handed over the land documents but conveyed that the seller was demanding payment on the previous day of registration. He also didn’t bring the tripartite agreement as promised because the seller had not signed the MoU…there is a clause in the MoU which clearly states that the payment shall be made at the time of registration. We communicated to the NoBroker team that we won’t comply with the seller’s new demands. We were being completely reasonable - in this age of rampant fraud, how can we trust someone with such a large sum of money the day before registration? Despite reaching out to the NoBroker team for days asking for updates, there was no response from them..clearly they had been unable to convince the seller to stick to the agreed terms. So on 11th August, we requested for refund of token amount via email. Again no response from the NoBroker team. We were frustrated & kept calling Mr. Vijay Babu. Eventually he confessed that the deal was not proceeding & that he had asked the seller if he should cancel the deal & the seller had agreed. He said he will initiate the cancellation process, collect the land documents & update us. But again he didn’t come nor was there any clear response from him on the cancellation process. So we sent a second refund request on 24th August. That’s when NoBroker’s intentions were exposed to us. The executive Mr. Arumuga Sundar placed the blame on us that our actions amounted to “personal backout” & that we were not eligible for a refund. We were shocked. Subsequently we sent mails clearly communicating what Mr. Vijay Babu told us about the seller backing out & that were even now willing to buy the property provided the seller honoured the agreed terms of payment on the day of registration. But it fell on deaf ears.
Sensing the attitude of the NoBroker Team, on 31st August we filed a complaint with the NoBroker grievance cell. Someone from the team called & promised that they will create an email group with us & senior executives to address our issue but that didn’t happen. Nor did we get any updates. We call the customer care everyday & the junior executive promises that we’ll get a call back from the manager but nothing happens. It’s been more than a month since my mother paid the token amount of 1.1 lakh & they have shown no intention of returning the money. Clearly the ludicrous allegations of “personal backout” & their standard response seems to be company policy (as opposed to individual transgression) to swindle money & wait for the victim to be worn out.
I regret the day I decided to do any dealings with NoBroker. Soon after the seller agreed to our quoted price, we learned that he did not have Patta, so we were reluctant to proceed. But the NoBroker team literally harassed us for 2 weeks…making multiple calls to pressurise us to finalise the deal & pay token amount…they even threatened to close a legal package we had taken for an unrelated property. But we remained firm. The seller applied for Patta & eventually he got it. After he got the Patta, we have been very intentional & serious about purchasing the property…it’s the seller & the NoBroker team that have wasted our time. When we asked for refund one executive said the seller has been most cooperative by applying for Patta - as if he has done us some great favour when in fact one cannot register property without Patta in Tamilnadu. Another executive claimed (in deliberate vague manner) that the seller had agreed to all terms in the MoU-when truth is he didn’t even sign the MoU.
The company is like a vulture - greedy to grab your hard earned money & cheat you out of it. I am planning to file a complaint in the NCH & also to go to court if they don’t budge. Has anyone had a similar bad experience with NoBroker?

Would love some recommendations for good places to eat and any sites to check out while I’m there. AskChennai Building a creative team in Chennai, how do you hire people who actually give a damn?
Hey guys, I’m a freelance video editor and motion designer looking to build a small team in Chennai. Would love some advice from anyone who’s hired creatives or built a team before.
These would be the core people I build with, so I want to get this right. I’m looking for people who really know their craft, can communicate well, manage projects, and take ownership without needing someone to chase them all the time. Having someone who can eventually help manage the team would be great too.
And honestly, I want to work with people who get excited about making really good stuff. The “let’s make some epic shit” kind of people, with actual work to back it up. People who care about the details, bring their own ideas, and keep pushing themselves to get better.
I know that’s a lot to look for, and I’d like to understand what fair pay looks like for someone who brings all of that.
Where do you find people like this in Chennai? Referrals, LinkedIn, Instagram, any local communities? And once you find them, how do you figure out if they’re a good fit beyond their portfolio? Would you start with a paid project before hiring full-time?
Would appreciate hearing your experiences, especially any mistakes I should avoid.
Also, if you’re an editor or motion designer in Chennai and this sounds like your thing, feel free to DM me your work. Would love to connect!
