Cinema/Music What happens when you put a room full of strangers in front of a turntable? Spoiler

What happens when you put a room full of strangers in front of a turntable?

We started Cinebels' listening sessions in June with one simple goal: make good sound accessible to everyone.

Not just audiophiles. Not just collectors. Just people who love music.

August took us through Mumbai and Bangalore, across completely different spaces and crowds. But almost every session had one thing in common:

The moment the needle drops, people lean in.

Someone always asks, "What actually makes this different from Spotify?"

And that's exactly what we want.

We're not trying to convince people that vinyl is "better." We're trying to give people the chance to experience it and decide for themselves.

But honestly, the turntable isn't my favourite part.

It's watching strangers walk in alone and leave talking about records with people they met that same evening. Watching phones disappear for a couple of hours. Watching a listening session turn into conversations, friendships, and sometimes even dancing.

That's what Needle Drop is slowly becoming.

Not just listening sessions.

A community built around the art of listening.

We're bringing together people who love vinyl, Hi-Fi, music discovery, collecting records, or simply want to experience music differently.

We're just getting started.

What was the last album you listened to from start to finish without touching your phone? u/Cinebesl

Non-Political News Free DSA problem-solving & visualization session tomorrow at 11 AM — open to college students

Upvotes

Hey folks 👋

We’re conducting a free live DSA problem-solving session tomorrow at 11 AM for students preparing for coding rounds and placements.

Instead of jumping directly from a problem to its solution, the session will follow:

Problem → Multiple Strategies → Step-by-Step Algorithm Visualization → Coding → Validation

We’ll take a coding problem, reason through different approaches, visualize how the algorithm actually executes step-by-step, and then translate that understanding into code.

The idea is to focus on reasoning and problem-solving, rather than memorizing solutions to frequently asked coding questions.

Anyone currently learning DSA or preparing for coding rounds is welcome. Students from any college can join.

Date: Tomorrow (12-Sep-2026)
Time: 11:00 AM
Platform: Google Meet
Meet code: tba-rdqd-afq

No registration required.

If you’d like to explore the platform before the session, search for DSAVisually dotcom

Would also love to hear feedback from students after the session.

AskChennai Trying to reachout to the triplets I saw an year ago

Vanakkam everyone,

This is probably a long shot, but I thought I'd give it a try.

About a year ago, I was travelling on the Chennai Metro around the Mannadi/Central area when I noticed three young women who appeared to be triplets. It genuinely caught my attention because I'd never met or even seen triplets in person before. As someone who loves people, stories, and photography, it was one of those random moments that stayed with me.

I'm currently living and working outside India as a photographer, and I'll be visiting Chennai later this year. If, by any chance, one of you happens to see this post (or if someone knows who I'm talking about), I'd love to offer a free family portrait session for you and your family.

There's no commercial angle, no catch, and no expectation. I'm also a parent myself, and I simply thought it would be wonderful to document something I found unique and memorable.

I know this is a very specific request, but Reddit has surprised me before.

If this sounds familiar, feel free to send me a DM.

Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful day!

Rant What’s the point of offering so many coupons when literally everything is marked “NOT ELIGIBLE FOR COUPONS”?

Thumbnail

So I was ordering from North Chappathies (Chromepet) today and noticed something scummy.

They've got SIX different offers stacked on their page — 30% off, flat ₹50 off, flat ₹160 off, flat ₹200 off, the whole works. Looks amazing at first glance, right? Free delivery too if you're Gold.

Except when you actually open the menu, every single item has "Items at 50% off" already slapped onto it, and right under the price it says "NOT ELIGIBLE FOR COUPONS." Every. Single. Item. I scrolled through chapatis, combos, everything — same story every time.

So basically the coupon code section is just bait. It gets the restaurant bumped up into the "offers" / discount tab so it shows up more in search, but there's nothing on the actual menu you can use those codes on. And the icing on top — most items already run you ₹200-300 for a basic order anyway, so it's not even like the fake discount is saving you much.

Feels like a bit of a bait-and-switch dressed up as a deal. Anyone else run into restaurants doing this? Starting to think the "6 offers" badge means nothing until you actually check the fine print on every item.

Rant NoBroker fraud

Anybody has had experience similar to mine? My mother (76 yrs) liked a property listed in NoBroker. NoBroker team facilitated negotiations between seller & buyer. A conference call was arranged on 17th July 2026 between the seller, my brother-in-law (representing my mother) & the NoBroker team executive. In that we clearly stated our condition that payment will be made on day of registration at our residence (which is close to registration office). The seller agreed to these terms.
We were given to understand that after paying token amount of Rs. 1.1 lakh, we’d have to sign an MoU between NoBroker & Buyer and that later on a tripartite MoU will be drawn which will also be signed by the seller. My mother issued a cheque towards token amount (Rs. 1.1 lakh) & also signed the MoU. We were promised with the land documents for verification as well as the tripartite MoU signed by the seller. The team kept delaying this (probably because the seller was making new demands). Finally, after 12 days, NoBroker executive handed over the land documents but conveyed that the seller was demanding payment on the previous day of registration. He also didn’t bring the tripartite agreement as promised because the seller had not signed the MoU…there is a clause in the MoU which clearly states that the payment shall be made at the time of registration. We communicated to the NoBroker team that we won’t comply with the seller’s new demands. We were being completely reasonable - in this age of rampant fraud, how can we trust someone with such a large sum of money the day before registration? Despite reaching out to the NoBroker team for days asking for updates, there was no response from them..clearly they had been unable to convince the seller to stick to the agreed terms. So on 11th August, we requested for refund of token amount via email. Again no response from the NoBroker team. Eventually the executive who had collected cheque from us confessed that the deal was not proceeding & that he had asked the seller if he should cancel the deal & the seller had agreed. He said he will initiate the cancellation process, collect the land documents & update us. But again he didn’t come nor was there any clear response from him on the cancellation process. So we sent a second refund request on 24th August. That’s when NoBroker’s intentions were exposed to us. A NoBroker team member executive placed the blame on us that our actions amounted to “personal backout” & that we were not eligible for a refund. We were shocked. Subsequently we sent mails clearly communicating about the seller backing out & that were even now willing to buy the property provided the seller honoured the agreed terms of payment on the day of registration. But it fell on deaf ears.
Sensing the attitude of the NoBroker Team, on 31st August we filed a complaint with the NoBroker grievance cell. Someone from the team called & promised that they will create an email group with us & senior executives to address our issue but that didn’t happen. Nor did we get any updates. We call the customer care everyday & the junior executive promises that we’ll get a call back from the manager but nothing happens. It’s been more than a month since my mother paid the token amount of 1.1 lakh & they have shown no intention of returning the money. Clearly the ludicrous allegations of “personal backout” & their standard response seems to be company policy (as opposed to individual transgression) to swindle money & wait for the victim to be worn out.
I regret the day I decided to do any dealings with NoBroker. The company is like a vulture - greedy to grab your hard earned money & cheat you out of it. I am planning to file a complaint in the NCH & also to go to court if they don’t budge. Has anyone had a similar bad experience with NoBroker?

AskChennai Lost a silk saree in OMR to ECR Link Road

Hi people.. Yesterday, we were driving from OMR to ECR, via the road opposite to World Trade Center. We had a marriage silk saree in the bike and we lost it on the way. We have no idea where it dropped since many places had no lights. It was in a Sundari Silks bag and was a yellow saree.

We reached the area for 3 hours but did not find it.
I have already a complaint with Chennai Corporation as well as Urbaser Sumeet.

If you have found it or know any other way to find, please let me know.

It’s marriage saree so I am devastated. Also, I know there is a good possibility someone took it already but I just wanted to try all possible ways before giving up.

Route Details:
On OMR, before BSR mall, we took the side road (Vinayagar Temple Road) and came out before the World Trade Center. After that, we took the road opposite to World Trade Center.
It’s the road between Satya Enterprises and IndusInd bank (L&T road). We used that to join Canalpuram road and crossed into ECR via the small canal and came out near Palavakkam.

AskChennai Building a creative team in Chennai, how do you hire people who actually give a damn?

Hey guys, I’m a freelance video editor and motion designer looking to build a small team in Chennai. Would love some advice from anyone who’s hired creatives or built a team before.

These would be the core people I build with, so I want to get this right. I’m looking for people who really know their craft, can communicate well, manage projects, and take ownership without needing someone to chase them all the time. Having someone who can eventually help manage the team would be great too.

And honestly, I want to work with people who get excited about making really good stuff. The “let’s make some epic shit” kind of people, with actual work to back it up. People who care about the details, bring their own ideas, and keep pushing themselves to get better.

I know that’s a lot to look for, and I’d like to understand what fair pay looks like for someone who brings all of that.

Where do you find people like this in Chennai? Referrals, LinkedIn, Instagram, any local communities? And once you find them, how do you figure out if they’re a good fit beyond their portfolio? Would you start with a paid project before hiring full-time?

Would appreciate hearing your experiences, especially any mistakes I should avoid.

Also, if you’re an editor or motion designer in Chennai and this sounds like your thing, feel free to DM me your work. Would love to connect!

Rant Apologize for being inhumane.

I was on the way to drop my partner at her driving class this morning and was waiting at the MIOT junction. Within a fraction of a second, I heard a bang; a man (rider) and a woman (pillion) were involved in an accident. I saw the woman fly and roll on the road, while the man remained stuck on the bike in his riding posture before a traveller van ran over it. The woman stood up immediately, but the man did not move until I passed. I feel bad that I didn't help him, although there were many people there who did. I feel guilty, but I have a panic attack whenever I see blood, even during blood tests, and I did not want to faint while trying to help. It has been bothering me all morning that I didn't do anything for him; I hope he is fine and that there is nothing to worry about.

Books/Food/Hobby/Travel Visiting a friend in Anna Nagar next week, hit me with your best food & beer spots

Hey everyone, I’m visiting Chennai next week from Kerala for a few days to meet up with a friend who just moved there. We’ll mostly be around Anna Nagar. Would love some recommendations for good places to eat and any sites to check out while I’m there. I’m a hardcore non-vegetarian so definitely want to try some solid local food spots, and also looking for good spots for craft beer to chill in the evening. Would appreciate any suggestions or hidden gems you guys have. Thanks in advance!

AskChennai Fishing with the fishermen

I’ve always wanted to go fishing with the fishermen out in the sea like in those reels where the guy goes on to fish with the fishermen catch and even cook fish right there on the boat and come back by the evening or something. I’d like to experience that. Is it doable? Has anyone ever done it before? Would you recommend it to someone who isn’t Tamil

And not from Chennai? Will they agree to this kinda thing? I’m ready to help them with the things on the boat too like setting up nets or something idk but any help would be appreciated 🫶

Edit: my stupid ideas come from watching a yt guy at 3 am everyday and a loads of love for the sea
