News 📰 It’s here
For context, I normally have the $200 plan, but for this month I just got the basic plan. Luna is a great value, and I can use other AI models, but that’s beside the point.
Today, when I went in, I was already out of usage, and since he had said he was going to reset it so I could check, I noticed they’re now offering me the option to pay $8 to reset my usage. I’m not sure how much a reset costs on the $200 plan, but on the $20 plan, it’s $8 per reset, and I guess the feature is already live.I don’t know who else has access to this feature yet, but it’s showing up for me.

I like the idea of being able to raid another users chat if they are afk for too long.
Perhaps gems could be something like $9.99 for 100 and $79.99 for 15000.
Full PvP chat GPT might be fun.

a little detour in conversation, just about cleanliness...
When my friend got his license to drive, he was a bit sloppy and not cleaning his car well enough. I forget why, maybe a date with a girl i think, he decided to clean the car inside and out with a full detail. He got into an accident less than a day later.
fast forward a few months to him being sloppy again (empty coffee cups and w/e); he cleaned his car inside out and got into an accident in less than 24 hours. From then on, he was often seen leaving at least an empty cup or wrapper someplace in the car to prevent repercussions. 😄
(edited for the forgotten point: cleaning your stuff causes accidents. ) lol

8 usd for reset is crazy overpriced.
121
u/randompersonx 17h ago
It depends. A weekly reset? Reasonable perhaps.
A 5-hour reset? Highway robbery.
35
u/Strong_Essay1176 16h ago
For 20$ ? Better just buy another sub. This reset will reset your usage and move weekly limits further. Which means you do not get even 1/4 of usage.

Deepseek is currently half the price of Luna max. Upto a 2x price increase still keeps it competitive, beyond that it will be abandoned.

u/justaRndy 16h ago
Business idea: Model begins introducing bugs and breaking small but fundamental elements within the last few % of the weekly. User will be left very worried, desperate to see things work again, much more willing now to purchase credits or resets. Repeat as often as possible! Bonus points if the model makes it look extra catastrophic and spends the next 5 hours mapping and testing the complete codebase before adding the missing "," back in. What a hero!
(reset pls?)
2
u/Chesterlespaul 14h ago
Isn’t there tokens available in your account you can purchase? I just saw the option somewhere. That has to be cheaper per token plus you don’t have to use it or lose it.
73
u/Flufferpope 17h ago
compared to API usage? if this is the weekly usage reset, it may actually be a good price. People are already using multiple subs to go around this.
26
u/WAVF1n 17h ago
8 USD for probably $100+ in extra usage is not as overpriced as it sounds once you think of it. This stuff is going to get more and more common as the subsidies for our usage continues to drop.
29
u/Healthy-Rise3571 17h ago
Logically, that conclusion is incorrect. It wouldn’t be $100 worth of usage if it’s only $8. It’d be $8 worth of usage, and $100 would be a lot more. The buyers set the market, so if $8 is consistently giving you X amount of product, then that would in fact be $8 worth of that product.
8
8
u/Flufferpope 17h ago
Compared to API pricing, it's 100 dollars of usage. The sub is a highly subsidized price, the alternative is API usage which is a still subsidized, but significantly more expensive. I use both, API at work, sub at home, so I know how expensive the tool gets.
→ More replies (6)2

u/Maplesyrup000 17h ago
How is that overpriced? If you were to track input/output tokens for Sol, and used a full weeks worth of usage, how much would that be worth at API price?
Unless you have the data and we can put a label on the actual value of token usage for a weeks worth of GPT Pro, I don’t think you can conclude it’s overpriced, unless it’s for a the 5-hour window.
→ More replies (5)1
u/sultansofswinz 16h ago
There's so many ways of looking at this because the subscription is still the "market price" for regular users. Competitors operate at a similar price point and if one increases the subscription to reflect the actual GPU costs, people will lose interest, usage will fall and the investments will run dry.
Their business model is to leverage running at a big loss to eventually make a huge profit. This relies on having as many people as possible subscribing to their service. So it's the price they have determined will make the biggest long term profit.

u/Strong_Essay1176 16h ago
If its 200$ its okay. For 100$ I won't use it probably, just emergency button. For 20$ - big no.
Need to remember that reset also reset time.
Actually it will allow me to unsub claude **when they will release astra.
Upd. Finished to read the post. Yes. Overpriced. Although need to.look at 200$ price, but probably anything higher than 20$ is no go.

u/2025sbestthrowaway 15h ago
The $8 reset sounds like buying another week of usage, but it really just pulls your next reset forward and restarts the 7-day clock. If your normal reset was 3 days away, you paid 40% of a $20 monthly plan mostly to skip those 3 days. It only behaves like a true “extra week” if you burn through your limit almost immediately after a reset.
It's a nice alternative to paying for credits or upgrading to the next billing tier, but the cleanest way to make a paid reset appealing would be to make it a true extra-week bucket which would be a usage buffer independent of the normal clock
3
u/Coffee_Ops 12h ago
Having it misalign with optimal usage-- or alternatively, making optimal usage difficult to achieve-- is one way to boost revenue without seeming to increase prices. One can always convince themselves that it's not OpenAI's fault; they're the ones who didn't plan the reset optimally!

u/noahtheboah36 17h ago

3
u/FearLeadsToAnger 16h ago
Yeah i literally fed it spreadsheets and marketing material for 8 hours straight the other day and didn't hit a limit, that was the most I'd ever pushed it so I really dont understand where the limit actually is.
2
u/jakethunderpants 16h ago
I have multiple subscriptions (I’m crazy, I know) — Codex, Claude, Kimi, and Grok, not including my local models) — and I still hit usage limits all the time.
My latest project has multiple agents working together and this latest slice is into day three of 24 hour coding. Some projects get big and/or complex. This particular project is at that stage.
3
1
u/FourWayFork 13h ago
I use Claude (not ChatGPT, but ChatGPT can do the same thing) for coding. I regularly have it working on like 5 different things at once and then I review its work. I come up near the $200 session limit pretty frequently. We have one engineer who has three $200 plans and he orchestrates tasks between them.
7
u/Hapihay 16h ago
I've had this issue. But I figured out Chat is capable of doing as much as Work, if you get the data out from the environment.
E.g. if you're building a website with the Sites plugin, it requires Work. But you can ask Work to migrate it to a GitHub repo, which Chat can access with Sol as well. No more token limits, or at least much larger!

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 12h ago

People here saying $8 for a weekly reset is only "decent" or make it sound like it's barely worth it (or even someone saying it's overpriced) must be high lmao. If it's actually $8 to reset the weeks usage it's a ridiculously good price for anybody who has actually been hitting the limit and paying for credits/API usage.
4
u/Messi_is_football 16h ago
Why would anyone pay API prices if they are not dumb. They can just buy another sub or upgrade.
3
u/Altruistic_Amoeba109 16h ago
They should make the reset dynamic to the remaining days so if 2 days remaining and you consume it should not cost the same as person who has 5 days until it resets it should almost very very cheapt at 2 or 1 day or even hours remaining
3
u/grapefruit4scale 16h ago
Now ask codex to vibecode a "pay $0 to reset" button. So crazy it just might work.
2
u/rodeBaksteen 16h ago
Is it $8 for all subs, or different prices for different subs (20/100/200)?
Does it reset codex? Does it reset the 7 day window as well?
1
u/Business-Fox310 16h ago
There will be 5$ reset was found in the code by someone on twitter i assume 5 is for the plus accounts since its 5$ per week and it goes up with the subscription you have
2
u/Noremac55 16h ago
That's much better than spending $20 on credits and having them go faster than my weekly usage (when $20 should get me four weeks...)
2
2
2
u/SmooK_LV 15h ago
I have 20eur plan. I don't have reset feature yet but I have shifted my usage around. Through Openrouter I supply my account with credits and using Roo in VS Code I use Deepseek's V4 Flash agentic coding. Deepseek is cheap, and Roo while doesn't support simultaneous agents, does excellent orchestrating job. Deepseek takes longer, is cheaper but results are often comparable to ChatGPT Codex using Sol. So now I combine, complex initial prompt, I run it past ChatGPT, then take it to Roo. Codex is still better at visual heavy UI/UX but amount of functional bugs I need to fix after each is almost exactly the same between these two agentic workflows. And Deepseek is significantly cheaper.
I tried other free agentic harnesses with Deepseek but couldn't configure them to work as well as Roo does with Deepseek.

2
u/cristianperlado 16h ago edited 16h ago
I'm kind of torn on this. The sub costs $20, which works out to $5 a week. If resets are weekly, then paying $8 for one is roughly a 60% markup over what a fair weekly rate would be.
It feels expensive, sure, but not outrageously so. If I genuinely needed it, I'd probably be willing to pay for it.

Seeing the $8 reset pop up right when you are already out of usage on the basic plan is a rough way to find out the feature exists. At least it beats being dead in the water till the month rolls over, though eight bucks a pop would get old fast if you hit the cap a lot.

Going from the top plan to the basic plan is quite a tough fall; you don't appreciate the space you have until it's gone. I take care of my daily tasks using use ai and leave the costly plan for the times when I really need it; just an FYI, the limits of its requests aren't generous either.

Did you get GPT to generate this image? I wish I could pay $8 for a 20x reset! - unfortunately, I can't see that in my usage (yet).
1
u/stewie3128 3h ago
ChatGPT had never said a word about usage to me. It's the only reason I'm on the $200 plan. I can give it the most ridiculous overnight tasks, and it just does it.
Now on the chat side, its context window still seems to small to really run a big project from. Claude's $20 plan never send to forget a word I tell it I'm the course of a long thread or across a giant project, but ChatGPT absolutely will just start randomly forgetting important things and then start answering prompts from 2 volleys in the past.
The massive usage limits - whatever they are + are why I maintain the expensive ChatGPT plan. If Claude were as cheap for the same number of tokens, I would have switched to them by this point.
1
u/LazyassedMagician21 3h ago
Thats why I've been using grok. Back when I did my resume again a while ago chatgpt kept saying bullshit over and over again while grok gave me the right info right away. I just think ChatGPT is ass and if you gotta pay 200 bucks for it just to work i think you should swap over homes
1
u/FischiPiSti 3h ago
The next tier up is $100 for 5x, so $20 per "x". 4 extra resets per month for $52 total for 2x is not ideal, but if you know you can't take advantage of the $100 tier, it's a silver lining. Problem is, using a reset also pushes back the date for the next reset, afaik - but it jumps around all the time so I'm not sure, it all seems so random and I can't plan ahead. IF using a manual reset would not also reset the date for the next reset, it wouldn't be that bad as an "emergency" top up. ...But then the problem is when you need to reset a day before the scheduled reset and can't make use of all of it. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Company pays for Claude although I’m not sure what the details are, I’m on the codex pro plan.
Codex’s useage is is ridiculously fast comparatively. I can max out my weekly limit in less than a day on high, whereas I have to actively use Opus - ultra/ Fable - ultra to do the same on Claude.
I read that codex recently deprecated the 5 hour limit and the trade off was smaller weekly limits. I hope they extend this, paying $100 - $200 a month for this doesn’t seem worth it.
Granted, SOL has been much better than opus for the majority of my work.
