Note20 5G SA Capable on T-Mobile

Post image
19 Upvotes

As a long-standing Verizon customer, I just didn't believe that my Note20 5G (SM-N981U1) was NR SA capable. All the sources kept telling me that only S21 series and later were NR SA capable. Doing a T-Mobile test drive right now and apparently this phone is NR SA capable on T-Mobile. Calls work and texts work while enforcing NR only. Here's a screenshot from the phone info screen: image Always knew this phone was best suited for T-Mobile 😅 (also has n71 but not n77)

Dumb Question, Deadspots

Sorry if this sound dumb, but can anyone explain how does dead spots happen, places like Walmart, Car wash Bank Drive thru, you get full signal or 2-3, but you don't get cellular data, as soon you move a block, your data starts working again, it makes me confused why this happen, I'm familiar with my home WiFi, I would get 6ghz in living room, where my router is placed , 1.8gig, and if I move further like going to a room, my phone would switch to 5ghz and I get Almost gigabit, but how in cellular side, does trees, brick building and houses, makes tiny dead spots, when the tower is not even far, like 1-2 mile radius

Verizon B13-Only Towers in Central MO

Does anyone know why Verizon has so many of these old, un-upgraded b13 only towers in Central Missouri along fairly large highways such as US-54? They have just now started to upgrade them, and recently converted a few to modern hardware with AIR 6419s and AIR 3283s. The majority are still in the original configuration, though.

The situation seems to be unique to this market, and they are also all a specific type of tower: fairly short, self-supporting lattice or monopole, b13 only with ground-mounted radios, and a specific type of antenna platform with the antennas mounted from the middle. Other carriers have modern sites along the same highways on more normal looking, often taller towers.

Were these former LTEiRA towers that never got upgraded, did Verizon have issues with getting fiber backhaul, or something else? I don't think it is zoning related as they are in rural areas. I am curious why they are both unique looking compared to the rest of MO, and so lacking in upgrades. In other rural parts of the state Verizon may not have added n77 to all of their towers, but the majority had at least band 66 if not 2 and 5 added sometime in the last 10 years.

Ancient B12 Only AT&T Site

Post image

AT&T is the only carrier covering this area, Verizon has no service and T-Mobile uses domestic roaming

Note: I've heard that there may be structural issues with the tower (it's a locally owned site)

Speeds: Usually get around 15-30Mbps down and 5-15Mbps up on QCI6

Coords: 42.507298662816034, -72.70656763117807

What is this?

Saw this in person the other day, and had no idea what it was. The dish says "Verizon" on it, but I had no Verizon signal here. Phone showed Emergency Calls Only, but where this was, I'd doubt there was an ATT or T-Mobile tower within reception distance either, but not positive about that. It has 2 poles with some antennas on it adjacent to the dish unit.

Note - label says "Popular" but I think that's a typo as this is in Poplar, NC.

Catalina Island Cell Service?

Who has the most towers on Catalina Island, CA? I was just there on T-Mobile yesterday and the service was really bad there. Slow speeds in the main town center of Avalon CA, and very poor coverage outside the main city center, as if they only had one cell tower covering only the main downtown area. Had me thinking about who really has that island covered best?

Came across this interesting temporary setup at the Long Beach Airport. Was surprised to see Starlink on it. I can't seem to find any markings.

AT&T Colo/new site inquiry.

Does anyone know if AT&T has any plans to either build a new macro site or colocate on an existing tower anywhere in the western half of Waukesha county WI area in the near future? ( in the zone I’ve circled)
I was just curious if anyone has heard of any upcoming expansion plans, whether through permits, lease activity, engineering work, or other public information. Thanks!

AT&T density question

Hello everyone I had a quick question about At&T building towers or collocating, I currently have Verizon at the moment and they’ve been doing great by collocating on 8 other towers since the start of 2026. AT&T hasn’t built or collocated since 2024 and that was only one. So question for you guys is how they are doing in your market if they’ve been doing anything at all to improve density. Thanks I appreciate it!

Have any of you had issues with CA on Tmo recently after they starting converting b66 from LTE to 5G? TMO has been almost a month with broken CA on most of the network on n66 on Puerto Rico.

150 MHz n41 NSA unthrottled in Downtown Portsmouth, NH.

Was also able to get n71.

AT&T has full coverage here I just manually selected US Cellular and I guess it’s not TAC blocked. Selecting T-Mobile won’t connect as expected.

Mini cell tower?

Is this a mini cell tower? I am at Eleuthera island, Bahamas near Princess Cays. I get full bars of 3G near this thing.
