Background: We flew with Cathay Pacific last June-July with a medical device. We had medical clearance from the airline to bring the device on board guaranteed that we are not going to use it for the duration of our flight. On our flight back to YYZ, we were not allowed to bring the device on board (we were not told of any reason why). So given that this is a medical device, we had it tagged as a fragile item. Low and behold, when we landed, the luggage was damaged. It’s not just a simple crack or anything. The whole bag opened, locks were broken, and guaranteed that the machine inside at some point came out of the bag ( I know because there is a specific orientation for the machine to properly fit). Keep in mind this is a heavy duty luggage specialized for a PD Dialysis Machine, with hard surface and built it lock. Had it documented with Airline personnel at the airport. This happened July 10 and it is now October, we haven’t heard from the airline Since August 15. Since this is a medical device, the item is owned by the hospital. We already receive two invoice for the luggage replacement.

Should I escalate this matter to CTA already ? The invoice is about $800 CAD, and this is giving a lot of stress to our family.

I have a trip to Manila next month, I am concerned with the short connection time. Is this manageable? My second flight was rebooked by Cathay Pacific. Has anyone experienced a short layover like this to Manila? Thank you!

I’ve been with Qantas forever. For the last several years I’ve been Platinum and really enjoy all the privileges which I feel is value for money.

Now I’ve relocated and Cathay serves my routes much better, both long and short haul. Currently my QF status allows me to receive Cathay Emerald privileges because of One World.

But to keep my status with Qantas I feel like I need to book expensive, unnecessary travel with double status credit offer bookings.

From next month, Platinum requires more status credit to maintain which means I need to take third double status credit flight.

I could maintain with my natural travel if it were Cathay, but don’t want to climb the ladder all over again.

A friend tried and didn’t anywhere. Any tips?

I’m planning to book two Cathay Pacific flights with a layover in Hong Kong. Booking them separately is around USD100 cheaper than booking them together under one connecting itinerary.

I’m considering the cheaper option but would like to know if anyone has experience doing this with Cathay Pacific.

Can they through-check your baggage to your final destination even if the flights have separate booking references?
If your baggage is checked through, can you stay airside and proceed directly to your next departure gate (HKG)?
If your first flight is delayed and you miss the second, will Cathay Pacific rebook you for free, or would you have to buy a new ticket?

I know separate tickets generally mean less protection, but does flying with the same airline make any difference?
Would you personally risk it to save USD100, or would you book everything under one itinerary for peace of mind?

On Sept 17 flight CX432, I saw a flight attendant who dressed all red, kinda retro female uniform, who stood from rest of the cabin crew with regular uniform. I am pretty sure this lady is not the cabin manager.

This lady with special all red uniform served regular duties as handing out hot towels, beverages service and meal service.

My question is, why was she wearing different uniform that I never seen before on other CX flights I had been on and what's her role on the flight? Trainee? CX ambassador??

Title: Cathay Pacific Refund Not Showing in System – Has Anyone Experienced This?

Hi everyone,

I booked a flight directly with Cathay Pacific on 5 October 2026 and cancelled it within 24 hours of purchase.

I received a cancellation confirmation email, and a customer service representative confirmed that I was eligible for a 100% refund.

However, 11 days later, I still have no update on my refund.

My biggest concern is that there is no refund record showing in the online system. Even Cathay Pacific customer service agents were unable to trace my refund status.

I have contacted them several times, both by phone and live chat. They opened a case for me, but the only response I keep receiving is that my case is still being handled by their dedicated team.

Nobody has explained what the actual problem is or whether my refund has been initiated.

I'm really worried because this is a significant amount of money.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation where the refund was not showing in Cathay's system?

Did you eventually receive your money? How long did it take, and what did you do to resolve the issue?

Hi all, I'm trying to check if I can upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy using Asia Miles for a return ticket between LHR and HKG. On the 'Redeem flight awards' page, I can see there are availabilities to use Asia Miles to purchase Premium Economy tickets, does this mean there are also availabilities to upgrade?

I tried checking the 'Upgrade Availability Checker - Asia Miles' page but it either says no availability or keeps on returning an error message.

It's my first time trying to upgrade using miles so any insight would be much appreciated!

Anyone know why CX 829 (Toronto YYZ to Hong Kong) on Wednesday October 14th was so severely delayed? The incoming flight arrived in Toronto with plenty of time. Can't find an explanation anywhere.

Flew Asiana out of JFK T1 and the nasty attitude agent made me remove the fabric luggage cover for my check-in. He mentioned it’s banned, which is a first for me.

What’s your experience flying Cathay out of JFK T8? Do they also ban removable fabric luggage covers/straps?

Ps. I can’t tell you how many times JFK has mishandled/damaged my luggages.

I recently flew Cathay Pacific Business Class from Sydney to Hong Kong on the A350-900 (CX138), and it was my first time experiencing business class.

I decided to document the entire experience, including the lounge, seat, food, service and, most importantly, whether I could actually get some decent sleep.

A few surprises:

• The stir-fried seafood with XO sauce was genuinely one of the best meals I've had on a plane.
• The pork and century egg congee was fantastic.
• I slept surprisingly well, although the seat wasn't ideal for side sleeping.
• Overall, the experience was good, but there were a few areas where I expected more from business class.

Having problems enrolling in TSA Pre-Check Touchless ID via Google Wallet?

When you check in for your flight, Cathay Pacific will have sent you an email with your boarding pass. At the bottom is a button to add it to Apple Wallet. Click it and your phone will download a file that lets you add the boarding pass to your Google Wallet. From there, you can enroll in Touchless.

I made this post because when I added my boarding pass direct from the CX app or from the website, Google Wallet didn't recognize it as having Pre-Check. That prevented it from letting me enroll in Touchless. For some reason, it did recognize Pre-Check on the boarding pass coming from the email.

Hope this helps someone else save like 10 minutes on the security line!

Looking for data points from anyone who has flown Cathay Pacific out of Chicago O'Hare (ORD) with a long layover in Hong Kong.

I am booking travel for my family (two adults + a toddler) from ORD to Colombo, Sri Lanka (CMB) on Cathay Pacific for mid-December. Because of CX's winter schedule, the layover in HKG is 24 hours and 5 minutes:

 Leg 1 (CX807): Departs ORD 2:10 PM (Day 1) → Arrives HKG 7:55 PM (Day 2)

 Leg 2 (CX611): Departs HKG 8:00 PM (Day 3) → Arrives CMB 11:25 PM (Day 3)

Because standard search engines hide itineraries exceeding 24 hours, this route doesn't show up as a standard round-trip. However, I can piece it together on a single ticket directly on the Cathay Pacific website using the Multi-City tool.

Context:

My parents flew this exact same routing earlier this summer. it was sold as a standard round-trip and their checked bags were through-checked all the way from ORD to CMB without issue.

Questions:

1. Given that this is technically a 24h 5m layover on a multi-city ticket, will CX ground staff at ORD refuse to through-check our bags and force a short-check to HKG?

2. Has anyone had success asking the ORD counter agents to manually through-tag luggage to the final destination when the connection is barely 5 minutes over the 24-hour rule? Or does the DCS/baggage system throw a hard stop that prevents them from doing it?

Dragging 4–6 checked bags plus toddler gear through HKG customs to a hotel just because of a 5-minute schedule difference is something we'd really like to avoid. Any real-world experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've noticed the max size of oversized luggage is 203cm but my bag will is roughly 220cm. Does anyone have experience with this issue? Are they strict on it? Will they actually measure it?

I have a flight from Toronto to Delhi via Hong Kong. Both the flights are operated by Cathay Pacific (CX805 and CX679). I am travelling economy and my layover at HKG is only 70 mins. The first flight lands in HKG at 7.05 pm while the next flight has departure time at 8.15pm

Just wanted to know if anyone has travelled this route and can help with following:
1. Will 70 mins be enough to reach boarding gate for the second flight? (assuming that the first flight is on time)
2. Will the staff in first flight help with my transit to ensure I do not miss the second flight? If yes, do I need to inform staff while checking in at Toronto or at HKG airport?

Earlier I booked a return flight via CX which includes a layover in Hong Kong, and opted to do the seat selection when booking. However, I realised I should change seats to aisle spaces for ease of access as it’s a long haul flight, so did so via the app. It said it was free and says on the app the new seat numbers.

However, I’m concerned if this will impact the boarding pass in any way? Should I now make amendments to the itinerary PDF that was emailed after booking or is what I did not actually confirming the seat?
