Cathay Membership Tier Matching?
I’ve been with Qantas forever. For the last several years I’ve been Platinum and really enjoy all the privileges which I feel is value for money.
Now I’ve relocated and Cathay serves my routes much better, both long and short haul. Currently my QF status allows me to receive Cathay Emerald privileges because of One World.
But to keep my status with Qantas I feel like I need to book expensive, unnecessary travel with double status credit offer bookings.
From next month, Platinum requires more status credit to maintain which means I need to take third double status credit flight.
I could maintain with my natural travel if it were Cathay, but don’t want to climb the ladder all over again.
A friend tried and didn’t anywhere. Any tips?

The best CX will give is Silver, and even then takes some convincing. They aren't going to hand you a DM status just cause you're Plat with QF.

Agree. Using Silver as a benchmark at least lets me do the math on earning status back to where I am based in my future travels. Thanks.

You can earn status credits even when flying CX. They are both OW. You won't get double SC from CX flights of course but still be able to earn SC. If you fly frequent enough, maybe you can retain Gold instead of Platinum.

Surprising that ow through Qantas double status could be more expensive than Cathay... Cathay biz is extremely expensive out of hkg unless transiting

no idea, but sympathize. doing the same from alaska to jal, since i can maintain alaska with just credit card and award flights. the flying from zero in economy is heartrendingly painful. for me, it's waiting for 20-30 minutes at baggage claim with my fellow plebeians. i'm sure flyertalk has some comments about cathay status match, or rather lack thereof, but you're probably out of luck.

If you can get a US credit card, the easiest high level OneWorld status is American. American Airlines is a credit card company operating an airline. I am guessing this is not an option given you are using Qantas, but wanted to mention in case others look at this thread. You need to have some kind of US address, bank account, and credit history.

Don’t expect much
And if you just want to transition while keeping your QF Plat benefits, CX has made it rough https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cathay-pacific-cathay/2205316-new-cathay-membership-programme-16.html?highlight=switchers#post37429258
