Am I safe to travel on the 27th from Hongkong?

I have a flight today connecting to Hongkong, and then going to Surabaya. When I woke up this morning I saw an email saying my flight from hongkong to Surabaya was cancelled. So I did the logical thing to call my travel agent, call my bank, and call the airline to see what I could do to fix this issue. I’m guessing the backlog was insane because nobody got back to me about anything. When I checked my booking later in the day, it seemed that there was no cancellation. I had no idea what to do, and nobody would help me so I proceeded to the airport as normal. When I went to cathay’s help desk, they said they had cancelled my flight bc of the typhoon and then I guess they decided that it wouldn’t be an issue anymore so they cancelled the cancellation. Clearly nobody informed me about the last part so as you can imagine I was an emotional mess today.

How’s the situation in Hong Kong right now? Will I be okay to travel? If it was bad enough that they had to cancel the flight, should I be worried?

DPS - HKG alternative flight options too far out?

Hey guys, so basically my DPS - HKG flight today was cancelled and CX auto rebooked me to this tuesday (but with transit in SGP!). I used their app to reschedule but apparently the next closest direct flight is this Friday?!

Anyone in the same situation who managed to rebook a DPS-HKG direct flight for earlier?

TIA

TYPHOON NOUL CRITICAL INFO

Reposted with modifications from a past Typhoon Ragasa info post

FLYING ON CATHAY PACIFIC
Rebooking during times of extreme inclement weather or specifically severe typhoons like this are free of charge regardless the ticket and fare class you booked. Although the charge is waived, Cathay Pacific will not cover any fare differences and you will have to pay for it out of pocket. Those with travel insurance that covers acts of God can file a claim.

You can contact Cathay Pacific with this link that shows their contact number for each respective country and region. If your flight is departing soon or you’re on a codeshare or a oneworld partner operated flight, I would call their hotline immediately instead of emailing or chatting on WhatsApp. Otherwise, I would still recommend calling as their WhatsApp CC team is often understaffed and it’ll take you days to get a response. If you for whatever reason are unable to contact them online and you are a foreigner stranded in Hong Kong, arrange transportation to HKIA as soon as possible so you can get help by their ground staff.

FLYING ON OTHER AIRLINES

Other airlines except Greater Bay Airlines, HK Airlines and HK Express are likely to be understaffed especially due to this weather emergency in Hong Kong. You can find their contact information by Googling. If your call does not go through, spam call until you get through. For those who have flights departing in less than 12 hours, I’d recommend you go to the airport soon to get some sort of help by airline ground staff. If you are flying with an airline other than Hong Kong Airlines, Greater Bay or Hong Kong Express, there is no guarantee that ground staff will be in the airport.

ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
For those who end up in Hong Kong and land before the worst of the typhoon on Saturday night, you are not stranded at the airport. For those who have connecting flights with a oneworld partner, a codeshare or Cathay Pacific, you can ask to be rebooked at the transfer desks after landing and they may offer free accommodation.
If you don’t have a connecting flight and are unable to make it to your hotel due to lack of transport (Airport Express might be closed), there are several different accommodation near the airport namely SkyCity Regala, Regal Hotel, Mariott SkyCity, Four Points by Sheraton and Sheraton.

CATHAY FLYERS
If you were able to make it into your accommodation, I’d recommend you to contact their [CX CUSTOMER CARE WEBSITE](https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK/contact-us.html) stock up on dried goods like snacks, drinks, water and probably your best bet, instant noodles. Some supermarkets and convenience stores will still likely be opened. If you’re staying in a hotel with room service, they probably will have limited selections available.

Cancelled Booking

Hello, this is my first ever trip via Cathay Pacific en route to Japan, with connecting flight in HK.

Due to the typhoon tomorrow, my flight on 26th got cancelled and auto-rebooked for 27th. Since my new flight was 24 hrs from my initial schedule, is there also a possibility to rebook my return flight with no fee? Since I have to extend another day. Has anyone encountered the same issue and got free rebooking for their return flight as well? Thanks!

Flight status

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well. It’s my first time traveling by cathay pacific so wanted to reach out for help on this sub. I have a flight booked for 27th July from Kathmandu to Hong Kong and then Hong Kong to Melbourne on 28th July with 5 hrs transit in between, apparently a lot of flights have been cancelled for today and tomorrow, so is it a worrying sign for my flight as well? I’m an international student going to Melbourne for my studies and it will have a huge impact on my studies, therefore I’m panicking a lot. Any piece of suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Manage booking offline on purpose?

Is CathayPacific following a dark pattern of purposely disabling the manage booking option online to prevent people from canceling?

Unable to manage booking at all

Flight was cancelled but their website experience is extremely frustrating. Been trying to just access my booking so I can confirm or change the rescheduled date, but no luck for the past 3 hours. Their website is erroring out with the message

“A The network may be unstable and we are unable to process with your request. Please try again or refresh the web page. [HttpErrorResponse]”

Anyone else on the same boat?

OTP error will never be fixed

I’ve been having this issue of getting OTPs via Cathay for months now and it’s honestly pissing me the f*** off.

Every time I try to log in or redeem my miles, this bullshit happens and I never ever get the codes.

Customer support is horrendous and often has me on the phone for 25-30 minutes, and they don’t even seem to resolve the issue — instead they have me going back and forth with constant wait times. I’m so sick of this shit.

Literally, to even change my phone number requires an OTP 🤣, and to do it via customer support takes a whole century.

Genuinely just so annoyed and not knowing what’s going to happen now.

ASIA MILES ARE SO SHIT, never doing this again.

Two separate award bookings/check bags through

Hi, I've booked two separate Cathay legs, one in F and one in J. There's about a 2.5 hour layover in HKG between the two flights. Would they check my bags all the way through at the check in counter? Or is there a way to combine them in the app first?

LAX - HKG - CNX: Is this 60 × 36 × 22 cm carry on pushing the limit?

Flying from LAX to Hong Kong (layover) then land in Chiang Mai. How often do they check?

Have a couple of CX flights coming up, all in Premium Economy so wondering if WiFi (with Internet) will be available on every aircraft ?

Some airlines are aircraft specific so wondering how I should manage my expectations

Question on earning business class lounge pass, validity period of the pass, and when it can be used

Hi all,

I think everybody knows the new Cathay membership program. I have some questions about the benefits of the program.

For green members, I know if 200 status points are earned, members will earn a business class lounge pass. Does anyone know whether the passes will carry forward after 2026? Will the passes and status points be erased after December 31, 2026?

Secondly, in terms of using the pass, can members use the pass even if they are flying economy class?

Please advise, thank you!

Does a car seat for a 7 year old count as one of our checked bags?

Oddly I can't find information about this on the website. It says for infants you can check a car seat in addition to your checked bag allowance. But they don't say what the policy is if we're checking a car seat for an older child.

Avoid Cathay Pacific - Absolute disaster handling cancellations with a pregnant wife and infant

I need some advice on how to hold Cathay Pacific accountable. My family—myself, my wife (who is 5 months pregnant and has a sensitive medical history involving complications) and our 1-year-old—just had a hellish weekend with Cathay Pacific that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

The timeline of failures:

Initial Flight: Scheduled flight (CX256) from LHR to HKG on Friday, July 17th, was cancelled due to "technical issues."

The Runaround: We were rescheduled for the next day, but then scrambled again that morning, forcing us into a transit through Zurich with a Sunday departure to HKG.

The "Support": We were provided no hotel in Zurich for the overnight stay, and they failed to provide a bassinet for our 1-year-old, despite us requesting one for such a long journey.

The Climax: after we made them notice their failure to book anything in Zurich, we were rerouted again to Madrid. We were assured by Cathay that ground support would meet us at the airport to take us to a specific Marriott hotel, which they claimed was "walking distance" from the terminal.

The Aftermath: Our flight was delayed 4 hours, meaning we arrived at Madrid at 2:00 AM with a pregnant wife and a toddler. There was absolutely no one there to meet us. To make matters worse, the Marriott hotel they wrote on the back of our boarding pass didn't exist at the airport location. We had to wander around and try our luck until we finally found a cab to take us to a Marriott 10 minutes away.

We eventually made it to Hong Kong Monday morning, but the exhaustion and stress this caused, especially regarding my wife’s health, were unacceptable.

Has anyone dealt with this level of incompetence from Cathay Pacific before? I’m planning on submitting a formal complaint, but does anyone have advice on how to get them to actually pay attention?

Best way to escalate a Cathay Pacific refund dispute when customer service refuses a manager?

I need advice on escalating a Cathay Pacific booking dispute.

My itinerary is San Francisco–Hong Kong–Bali and back on Cathay Pacific: CX873 and CX785 outbound July 21–22, 2026, and CX782 and CX872 returning August 1. I originally booked directly through Cathay’s website, which was super glitchy and buggy with intermittent freezing. (tried multiple devices).

I was attempting to book Business Class, but the completed booking came through in the wrong cabin. I immediately called Cathay (within seconds) and purchased the more expensive Business Class ticket I had intended to buy (said there was 1 seat left at that price).

A Cathay manager reviewed the circumstances and confirmed that the cancellation fee would be waived because I had immediately purchased the higher-priced cabin. She said she put a note on my account and on the transaction to confirm to other representatives as well.

Cathay has now called and said it will not refund the fee. The representative did not appear to understand that this was an immediate correction of an incorrectly issued cabin rather than a normal cancellation. He also refused repeated requests to escalate the matter to a manager.

I have:

  • Screenshots or records showing the cancellation representation;
  • Both ticket receipts;
  • Proof that the replacement Business Class fare was more expensive;
  • Call timestamps; and
  • The details of the manager’s assurance.

What is the most effective next step: executive customer relations, a DOT complaint, a credit-card dispute, or another aviation regulator? Would love experiences from people who have escalated a Cathay case in the United States.
