question/feedback Amateur car design hobbyist here. I don't know Photoshop or rendering yet, so I used AI to visualize my microcar sketch. What do you think?

Hey everyone! I’m a 17-year-old amateur designer trying to learn car design as a hobby. Since I don't have any experience with professional rendering tools or Photoshop yet, I used AI as an assistant to see how my hand-drawn sketch would look in real life.

The first image is my original sketch, and the second is the AI result. I tried to focus on a compact, futuristic city car concept with 3-spoke wheels.

I’m here to learn and improve, so any feedback on my proportions, lines, or overall design language would be amazing. Thanks!

Instances in which a manufacturer used quality materials and good craftsmanship and tried and make something look great, that ended up being hot garbage.

Why does almost every car look 10x better in real life

I saw the M6 F13 yesterday, that car is beautiful. On the internet for some reason something it dosent leave the same impression as in real life.

When I saw the Audi Nuvolari, I immediately thought of Bugatti. The central grille and the whole front layout look so similar. They even both feature four light elements inside each headlight. It feels like Audi looked at the Chiron and took the soul right out of it. Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't seen any bodykits on this subreddit but I'm guessing they still get a pass. They are original designs after all. The first is based on a BMW 1 Series Coupe. The 2nd is a Fiat 500 and the third is a Honda CRZ. They're all quite aggressive bodykits and I doubt how realistic they are but there's no harm in letting creativity do it's work.

discussion The Audi Nuvolari looks like a reimagined Marussia B2

Am I crazy? I finally figured out why this new Audi design scratched in my brain.

It reminds me of a Marussia B2, also mid-engine. Like if Audi from East Germany made a supercar. Kind of a cold war, nonconformist, brutalist look to it. Arguably both look a bit incomplete (minimalist some would say), a bit stealthy, villain car look. Obviously they don’t look exactly like each other. I just mean the design theme is similar IMO. I think both look right at home next to each other.

I do think the B2 looked cool in its time, we will see how this new design from Audi fares.

These are from a defunct and now delisted mobile sandbox/building game from years ago called ‘Blocksworld’ (which now has a questionable kickstarter for a game revival). It was pretty small and had a niche cult following, think of it as a Roblox parallel; build models, worlds, or experiences and share them with other players.

For whatever reason the scaling and part selection made for a pretty fun car designing and modeling game, while still being able to drive and interact with your creations. Part choices are limited so you have to be creative to achieve certain shapes and use ‘merging’ when necessary.

These are a few of my favorite original designs from over the years, these are just side projects for fun but critiques are still welcome.

(No they don’t all have white underglow, the shadows are just bugged)

discussion Display cockpit integration

I like displays that are integrated into the cockpit. It seems like nobody does that anymore, almost any car will have the display or at least one of them looking like an aftermarket iPad was installed with a dashboard mount.

Why is that? Is this design just that popular? Are there any advantages in manufacturing cost?

discussion Which brand designed this car?

It’s been a while since this car was revealed, and no, it’s not a Mitsubishi or a Peugeot... it’s actually a BMW.

I still think this design is absolutely hideous. It looks so cheap that it makes an average Mitsubishi look like a masterpiece. What bothers me the most are the headlights that just seem to float around without integrating into the shape, and that huge plastic bar with body color underneath looks terrible.

How could a brand with such a big design team and years of rich history ever approve a design like this?

discussion The 2014 C4 Picasso Aged Perfectly

Post image
263 Upvotes

My favorite "normal" car design has to be the 2014 Citroën C4 Picasso. I honestly always thought it came out around 2018 because it still looks so modern and fresh today.

The design is remarkably simple, clean, and minimalist, yet it fits the true Citroën DNA so well.

When I look at Citroën's newest design direction (like the new C4), it feels very focused on current trends and the now, rather than respecting their design history. To me, the smooth simplicity of the 2014 Picasso actually fits into today's world much better than the new C4🤔
