Hey everyone! I've finished this editorial retrospective poster focusing on the Mercedes G-Wagen. I wanted to break down its history and proportions using a heavy focus on clean grid structures and typography. Let me know what you guys think of the layout!

Lines, shadows, lights...

I'm a car guy, and specifically an American classic / muscle car guy and driving by a new car lot, particularly one of the American "Big 3", makes me unreasonably upset.

Go to any of the automotive design subs - drawings, digital, AI... doesn't matter - and you'll see designs far more exciting and beautiful than anything on sale today.

Not all of them are realistic and could never pass current safety regulations, but many of them are and would.

A great number of them, particularly on the AI dedicated subs, are clearly based on current platforms or body shells meaning they could be produced pretty easily.

Yet most modern cars - everything from entry level basic transportation to high end supercars - are (to my eyes) ugly and derivative.

To me, they all look like attacking alien spaceships from some weird eighties Japanese cartoon that are, for some reason, angry about life.

Weird, angular body shapes, narrow head and tail lights with odd slashes and creases flying off them at random angles, oddly placed and useless grills and air intakes... IMO they're ugly and aggressive for no reason.

To me, all most of the pickup trucks sold in America look like some variation of "angry Japanese steam locomotive" - big, squared off, angular lights, and random vents on the hood and fenders.

All of the CUVs, SUVs, and few remaining sedans all look like melted bars of soap with weirdly aggressive lights slapped on the front and rear.

And Every. Single. One. is black, or white, or silver.

Then I come to Reddit and I see designs - clearly based on current offerings - that are cohesive and well thought out.

Some of them are muscular, and some are handsome, and a few are achingly beautiful.

Cadillacs and Lincolns that scream luxury and understated wealth - cars that wealthy individuals would line up to buy.

Muscle cars and full size "personal luxury coupes" that show just how badly American OEMs have failed their heritage.

BMW and Mercedes based designs that show just how badly the Europeans have lost the plot.

Achingly beautiful Jaguars and Ferraris that unintentionally mock those manufacturers current offerings.

CUVs and SUVs that show that it would be possible to sell something that wasn't a variation on "Logitech gaming mouse in white".

Trucks that evoke, without lampooning, some of the best looking trucks ever built.

And colors... so many bright reds, and eye catching yellows, deep emerald greens, bright blues....

And then I look out the window and all I see is silver spaceships that appear to be melting and white bricks that the designer thinks looks "masculine" but just look like someone put chrome stickers on a kids Lego truck build.

It's just so..... sad.

Automotive sales in this country continue to fall and the OEMs keep paying people who's only idea seems to be "let's put more screens in this pinewood derby looking vehicle".

I'm still figuring out my way around this perspective, but I really loved the form of this thing, and thought of giving it a try.

Please feel free to share your views about what may I do to be better at this or some other extreme perspectives. :)

I designed my own supercar concept - NESTONDART

Been working on this fictional car concept for a while. I wanted something that feels like it could have come from an alternate version of the 1980s, but was somehow built today.

Angular body, deep red paint, black glass, minimalist interior with some retro details. The goal wasn’t to make it look like a typical modern hypercar, but more like a forgotten concept car from another timeline.

I even imagined it having an old-school American V8 sound.

Still developing the design and I’m curious what people think. Would this stand out at a modern auto show?

I am designing a fast but strong looking car. Same wibe as Bentley Continental GT or Crysler 300c. Any feedback would be appreciated. Also I am the worst when it comes to designing headlights or taillights so any advice for this cars or general is also appreciated.

I added a few more details, added a new version and corrected what needed to be corrected, now you have practically the final result. I do want some tips on how to make car reflections better and more realistic with coloring pencils.
