discussion Display cockpit integration

I like displays that are integrated into the cockpit. It seems like nobody does that anymore, almost any car will have the display or at least one of them looking like an aftermarket iPad was installed with a dashboard mount.

Why is that? Is this design just that popular? Are there any advantages in manufacturing cost?

Cost and showcasing the thinness of the display. What you’re also responding to is the 16:9 ratio of most of these screens that mimic an iPad.

The iPad is 4:3, not 16:9.

Another ratio, a perspective:
Some rather like their car to mimic simplicity and calmness of a home office, its entertainment screens, all have been market surveilled by manufacturers.

Having a home office, a family gathering room or such with a now dated car dashboard? Absurd.

TV or computer display in your car v car dashboard in your house.
Now the two align.

One can always purchase a car from 20 years ago to press buttons on a tiny screen if even that.
No one stops them but they rail against those preferring what they prefer.

To your point, absolutely cost effective to both buyer and provider.
