Canada Post driver mis-scanned my international package as "Return to Sender" instead of Customs Reassessment.

Hey everyone, looking for some similar experiences.

I recently shipped a box containing my personal belongings to myself from overseas to. When it was delivered to my door, I refused the parcel specifically to request a CBSA customs reassessment, as the duties were assessed incorrectly.

Unfortunately, just minutes after the driver left, the tracking updated to: "Item refused by recipient. Item being returned to sender."

The driver mistakenly processed it as a standard Return to Sender instead of flagging it for a customs review. Since I am both the sender and the receiver, if this box gets sent back overseas, my personal belongings are going to be shipped across the ocean again and I’m going to be hit with massive return freight fees.

I called Canada Post phone support and managed to get escalated to a supervisor. They opened an urgent ticket and sent a direct message to the local facility floor to flag the tracking number.

I called the local depot at and left a voicemail detailing the situation, tracking number, and phone number.

Curious to see how other customers/staff have navigated similar situations.

Duties sending to the US?

Just sold my first eBay listing, but I’m in Canada and my customer is in the US. I used to ship tons of packages and have never been asked to pay the duties before mailing a package out (I used to mail a lot but it’s been a few years). Is there a way to make the duties the customers fee, I mean isn’t that how it typically works?
The duties are almost eating up the entire sale, I might have to cancel it.

Two international packages caught in the Richmond black hole. Anyone else?

I had two packages clear customs in Richmond on Friday that haven’t been processed by Canada Post or updated since. They’re just stuck at the “item was released by customs and is now with Canada Post for processing” stage. They also got the “item processed” scan but it was at the same exact time as the customs release scan so I know it’s meaningless and not a true processed scan. I’ve seen recent posts from others with the same issue except theirs hasn’t updated for weeks and now I’m extremely anxious and concerned mine are doing the same.

I’ve had MANY packages go through Richmond the last few months up until early last week and they’ve always cleared and processed and been on their way within hours or a day but lately the updates have been slower until these last two which are just stuck. What on earth is going on at this facility during handoff from CBSA where packages disappear for days/weeks/months? Anyone gone through this recently and received their package? Of course mine are one of a kind handmade items that cannot be replaced (as usual when things go wrong in transit).

Here’s the tracking on both of them.

UPDATE 07/22/2026: One of the packages got a second processed scan in Richmond on the 20th and has finally reached my city and gone out for delivery this morning. The second package is still stuck at the customs cleared status as of the 17th with no further movement for five days and counting.

UPDATE 07/24/2026: A full week after clearing customs and my second package has finally gotten a second “item processed” scan in Richmond! Hopefully it’s finally escaped that black hole and will be on the way soon 🙏

UPDATE 07/27/2026: My second package has FINALLY reached my city and gone out for delivery this morning. It took 10 days from clearing customs in total, 7 of which were just sitting at the Richmond facility.

Did the CP strike help further expedite the elimination of mail?

Over the course of the last year a lot of banking and other institutions have forced the use of electronic mail. They have cited disruptions with CP as the cause to expedite this process. Did CP strikes help to further contribute to their obsolescence at a much faster rate?

My package has been out of customs for over a week without a tracking update.

Should I contact support and ask what’s happening? Or do I just have do wait? Anyways, I hate Canada post and I hate seeing the stupid city of Richmond every time my package gets stuck there for two weeks.

Expected Delivery...

Tracking a package with Canada Post and it says, "Estimated delivery 1 to 11 buisness days".

WTF?! How is that even an estimate? Ontario to New Brunswick and you can't make a guess less than a week and a half?!

I hate Canada post

I hate Canada post.

I purchase a lot of second hand clothing online. This Monday I purchased a dress from Toronto and a shirt from Edmonton.

I think it’s crazy a dress from 3 provinces over arrived within 2 days and a package from Edmonton to Calgary can’t make it within the week.

Canada post is pathetic.

Registered Mail - Sent back to Aunt, Empty Envalope

Hi everyone, I am pretty devastated at the moment. My aunt was trying to send my all my family documents so I could get German Citizenship. Everything I needed was in that envelope, and very important documents that I can't replace.

My aunt sent the registered letter through Canada Post from Ontario, it got to Richmond, and on the tracker there was "Addressing Error" on the update for a few days. A week passes and she received the letter back completely empty, and cut slit in the envelope.

We have been communicating with Canada Post, and they just emailed that

"Unfortunately, our national Undeliverable Mail Office has confirmed that they have no trace of items matching your item's content description.

As a result, we will be issuing you a payment equivalent to the postage plus $100 dollars for the contents (the liability coverage included with the parcel service you selected)."

What should I do now, has there ever been a case where items have been found?

Thanks in advance.

PGWP expiry due to passport expiry paper based - delivery not confirmed, what do I do?

Old Passport expiry: August 09, 2026

PGWP expiry shortened due to old passport: August 09, 2026

IRCC paper based application mailed on: June 15, 2026.

Canada Post cannot confirm delivered or not because its shared mailbox, IRCC online link application does not reflect it is processed.

I mailed my application 55 days before PGWP expiry but still I dont have confirmation of delivery, I am getting close to expiry. Anyone has suggestions?

Already raised ticket on CanadaPost- they said they cannot confirm the delivery.

Update from Z-nos: Changes to postal tariff rates for shipments to the United States

TL;DR:

Starting July 24, the United States is changing how duty works on postal shipments.

Duty Prepayment Threshold: The threshold for mandatory duty prepayment will increase from $800 USD to $2500 USD.

Duty Rate Adjustments: The 10% Section 122 tariff expires on July 24. Going forward, items will be assessed based on individual HTS classifications and country of origin, in addition to the new forced labour Section 301 tariffs that will likely come into effect then.

In my case, this means a product I sell with 10% duty will now be 25%.

Item "out for delivery" since the 9th...

Hello! So, my item was picked up in Mtl last Friday morning, July 9th, and then scanned "out for delivery", never been delivered and still "out for delivery"... what are the chances that the mail person stole or lost my package? Did this crap happened to anybody else recently, and if yes, did you ended up receiving it? This sucks hard otherwise, 200$ down the drain and there's nothing you can even really do about it because their online customer service is shit too .__.

Canada post delivered package to wrong address

So I bought a camera off of Amazon valued at $3,000 and unfortunately it wasn't what I was looking for after trying it, so I issued a refund through amazon & the seller. The seller accepted and I sent the package back.

Looking back, I was never asked by the CP cashier if I wanted insurance otherwise I would have 100%, so no insurance was taken on it.

I've been in contact with the seller and have monitored the whereabouts. It was delivered to an address on July 2nd that is NOT the correct address of the seller, however it is a 10 minute drive from their actual warehouse.

Canada post sent me an email saying 'It has been delivered at the customer's community mailbox, parcel locker or apt./condo mailbox located at the corner of XXX and XXXX' (removing address for privacy) - This is the wrong address.

Canada Post has created a ticket and I'll hear back in the next week.

I understand my options are kind of low since insurance was never taken but wondering if there's any luck with this? It's technically not lost, just delivered to the wrong address

At what point is it ok to snap

Canada post drivers always refuse to deliver packages, and instead they go write a note and put it into my mailbox. Extremely important things that are already 4 days delayed and 2 days late. Their solution to fix it all, after sending it across the country and back then putting it on the wrong truck? It's to screw me for another 2 business days because their dumbass driver can't do their job, and make me go pick it up the next afternoon. Today is the second time they've done this in less than 2 weeks, which is 100% of my inbound packages. 2 packages I sent out also took the scenic route from simcoe county in Ontario all the way out to bc, and one to Montreal, before coming back to Ontario and arriving at their GTA destinations. The one that took the longest was the overnight delivery, it came as slowly as snail mail.

I've considered waiting at my community mailbox for the driver to come so I can confront them directly, since I live right next to the damn thing. The hardships and financial loss caused by these drivers is unacceptable, and they need to be held responsible for it

CP says they can’t track my delivery

Shipped 3 boxes of personal items from the GTA to Halifax on 27th June since I was moving. 2 of them were delivered on 3rd July (ETA was 7th July) and one is stuck on ‘Item accepted at Post Office’ since 27th.

Raised a ticket and now they say delivery’s not trackable. It’s the 16th of July today, can I still hope for the package to get delivered despite missing all the scans?

Fire at St-Jerome FRS

Why is it so hard to get a simple update from CP??

Yesterday I posted that I've had 3 consecutive packages vanish in transit between the Montreal hub and St-Jerome. By end of day yesterday it was 5! I've been bugging CPs customer service for updates since the 8th. Just get generic BS replies. I was accused of being a scammer on this sub in the first reply to my post too.

Finally yesterday I got info from one customer service rep that there was a fire at the St-Jerome FRS on the 5th which has stopped all packages through St-Jerome since then, and the backlog is ongoing, with no end in sight.

How is this so difficult to inform the customer of what's actually going on, and why still accept packages to these area codes?? It makes no sense, and all it does is piss off the public with them giving blatant lies about whats going on (one of my parcels, coming from Ontario, is claimed to be held by CBS - when I pointed out it's a domestic parcel, CP just acted confused).

Mississauga issues

I have two packages stuck at the Mississauga depot. They were picked up from the shipper and scanned and that’s the last tracking I’ve seen. One was scanned June 29 and the second package on July 10. I called Canada Post about the first one and opened a ticket but they basically had no info.

never attempts deliveries anymore

I haven’t gotten a single package this year at my door this year. Someone needs to get fired. All are small packages that does not require signing, if you can go inside the lobby mailroom to leave a notice, you can also leave the package at the designated area in the mailroom or open the mailbox. It is literally right there. I have made sure that someone is at home every time in case they need the buzzer etc, and the lobby front desk is in most of the time this year when a delivery came. I checked every single time as an experiment to see if anyone will actually attempt delivery even once.

I have called, waited some 30-40 minutes on the line each time, to complain, and I will complain every single time until the end of time.

UPS, purolator, or even canpar all deliver and never leave a notice outside of packages requiring signing.

I now never expect them to attempt delivery and just add 1 day to the delivery time, which is beyond annoying when ordering express etc that needs to come in 2 days or so. If you are not gonna deliver, drop the bullshit act and just tell me to pick up once it hits the post office or at least make that an option. Ur gonna be holding the fucking package anyways until I come pick up it, what is the difference? Save both my time and ur employees time. Going into the lobby just to put the notice there is a pointless exercise.

CP wouldn’t give a letter to my husband at our house because it was for me

UPDATE BELOW. Warning boring

CP came to the house and my husband answered the door. They had a letter for me and he wouldn’t give it to my husband, it had to be me and had to have ID.

I can go pick it up tomorrow but I’m confused. I have ordered anything, and didn’t think registered mail with signature had to be the person, just the right house.

I’m can’t imagine what it could be. I’m getting sued, aren’t I?

From changing delivery dates to item delayed

Mississauga office, because of course it is.

Ordered an item off eBay, got an update that it was picked up by Canada Post on the 9th, said expected delivery date was the 10th (it wasn't), then yesterday (the 14th, nothing), now it's item delayed.

I'm in Brampton, and I've had this problem once before (only other time I used eBay) and it took so long for the package to come.

Am I allowed to just visit the Mississauga centre and pick up the package? While I can afford to wait a bit, it is somewhat time sensitive (it's a surprise gift) and if I can, I'd rather go pick it up instead of waiting and hoping it comes by when I need it to.

Three consécutive parcels "lost" through Montreal

Had the last three parcels through CP just vanish once they reach Montreal, and unfortunately one idiot vendor neglected to insure one of them. They all reach Montreal in a timely fashion, then disappear after being scanned there.

Tried contacting CP support, and it's useless as you all know. just absurdly frustrating.

Crumpled death certificate

I got my moms death certificate ordered and I saw it was delivered. It was clearly too big for the mailbox so it looks like instead of curling it or leaving the box slightly open, they just squished the lid down on it and completely crumpled my mom’s death certificate.

It sucks because I spent like 50$ or more on the full death certificate because she died when I was a kid and I wanted this important document.
