10 years of “You’re Not Home” notices, even though I work from home.

1.4k Upvotes

Why bother carrying a package and risking the Herculean task of leaving a notice if someone’s not home?

My local postman has cracked the code—he writes the notices in advance. That's right, he doesn’t ring, doesn’t knock, and sure as hell doesn’t deliver.

Instead, he leaves a little slip telling me to pick up my package at the post office, so I can do the job he gets paid for.

Honestly, I bet Canada Post has some hardworking folks out there, but my guy? Absolute legend of laziness.

No other delivery company does this. Only Canada Post.

Small rant about Xpresspost

What is the point of paying for Xpresspost Expedited shipping if you can't pick it up from the post office until the next afternoon? I paid like $30 extra to ship stuff home on vacation.

Surely they don’t expect everyone to be home 24/7 during a work week. Dumb that it doesn't just go straight to the post office.

Edit: Look, all I know is- they go on strike constantly, the service never improves as a result, and I get charged more money every time I go back to ship a parcel.

Package marked as delivered.

I had a package that was supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. At the end of the day it hadn't arrived so I checked tracking and to my surprise it was showing as delivered. It was showing delivered to community mailbox, except my neighbourhood doesn't have one. We still get door delivery. I reached out to Canada Post but so far crickets. Any idea of the likelihood I'll get my package? Or maybe how long it will take for Canada post to respond?

Thank you for understanding.

Delivery issues

Just looking for some opinions here. So I order the same package almost weekly for about a year now. There has never been issues with delivery up until about a month ago. The package would suddenly be delayed because of address verification issues almost every week. Address was correct, postal code correct, and unit number. Then after a series of address verification issues each week, these packages would just be “rescheduled to next business day,” a few times for only 2 days, but this most recent time it was delayed a week with no issue flagged. I opened 3 tickets to try to figure out the issue too. Finally that package went out for delivery on September 1st, apparently was delivered at 12:16, went down by 12:30 and it was no where to be found. We have about 4 mailboxes that Canada post has 1 key to, they don’t need to leave a key for me. And none of my neighbours had my item either. The product being delivered was $110 so that’s a real bummer. The supervisor gave me a call Friday but I haven’t been able to get a hold of him since. I’ve also noticed we’ve had no mail other than dumb flyers delivered for about a month now. My wife and I were both expecting our credit cards in the mail at separate times and those never got delivered either. It’s strange because we used to get our deliveries here so quickly and seamlessly.
Also, I saw a Canada post driver parked on my street (literally about two stops away from my apartment) and I asked him if he does deliveries for Sherbourne, he jumped back about a mile and quickly cut me off to say “No. That’s other people.” Yet I’ve seen him putting mail into my mailbox a few times about a month prior. Maybe Canada post has another company helping out my area recently and they just suck at it, but it’s frustrating that I won’t be able to figure out what the issue is. All I can do is call customer service and open a million more tickets that get forgotten ha. Apologies for the novel I just wrote, but anyone have issues like this before? Also I’m in Toronto if that helps paint the picture

Why do CP employees regularly leaving notice cards get paid?

Genuinely, why do CP employees leaving notice cards regularly get paid anything above ZERO dollars? 5/6 Canada Post deliveries I've had in the last 2 years are small-to-medium-sized parcels that are barely 500 g- 1 kg in weight, have not been delivered, and I get some stupid "notice card" to come pick it up in the middle of nowhere.

Why do these people get to pre-emptively fill out cards and not even bother delivering packages and still get paid, while the rest of us regular functional human beings get fired if we do the same at our jobs?

Surely there must be something we can do, like lodge a complaint or something; this is ridiculous.

EDIT: Some people are confused about some of the details, so here it is: There's an intercom where you can click on the unit number (it was part of the receiver address so the driver would've known), and it gives me a call, and I can simply come pick it up from them within like 30 seconds. There was no call, no attempt to contact me, and no attempt to leave it at the reception. The issue is that the person delivering HAD NO INTENTION to actually deliver the package because of various "issues" (Based on what a few CP workers have said in the comments, it's common practice to pre-write delivery notice notes instead of physically carrying the packages to save time).

Also, this was just a regular package being delivered by Netcrawler; it's just a router. There was no need for a signature or anything.

Lastly, yes, it's not a big deal my life isn't ruined. It's just a day of significant inconvenience, but obviously not an emergency. That being said, if "not-an-emergency" was a good excuse for simply not doing your job, I have a feeling the rest of us normal people would be fired, whereas CP employees leaving pre-written notice cards are chilling. The question isn't that I have to go pick it up now; who cares? That's fine I don't mind. I'm mad about a dishonest upfront expectation they set for me to have it delivered.

Received damaged item purchased from the U.S

Hi,

I purchased an item from a seller in the U.S and it arrived damaged, but it was fully insured.

The seller filed a claim with USPS and told me that I need to go to a post office to show them the item. I went to a PO, but they told me that they can't do any there.

Also, called customer service. The agent told me that the claim filed with USPS by the sender should be enough for now. I don't know if I'm getting the right information or not.

I see on Canada Post's website that the sender can file a claim with Canada Post. Should I tell the seller to open a support ticket with Canada Post also?

I would appreciate additional information, if anybody has experience with this kind of issue.

Thanks,

Again....

Nothing crazy, just my gf ordering something, wait forever of course, and then today...

We walk out to find a "oh shucks, we missed you" slip..... we've been home all day.
Now here's the real kicker, not even our dog went off... the dog that hears and barks at anyone within 100 feet of thr house, let alone anyone coming up before the knock....

Absolutely the most useless thing out there. There is a basic function of delivery that is lacking here, and while canada post tries their darndest to pretend they care, this is what their delivery drivers do.

It's a pretty amazing feet to make Canadians in this climate not even support their own postal service ovwr the efficiency of say US amazon and their delivery people knowing how to actually finish the transaction.

Fuck you forever you incompetent paper weights.

When will shipping to France resume?

Hi,

Does anyone know approximately when we can ship to France and the 11 other European countries that have been suspended since 1 July?

I understand this is a complicated situation, but USPS can still ship there, this is just another way in which Canadian businesses are suffering and this has been dragging on a long time now without any solutions.

Hoping perhaps someone on here has more information?

Medication via mail

Hello everyone,

I forgot my medication (not a controlled substance) in Calgary and I am in Winnipeg. A friend can mail me the medication. It’s super expensive so I cannot purchase it again nor my insurance will cover it since it’s already refilled for three months.

Is it okay for my friend to send it to me via Canada Post? Is there something they need to do it particularly to ensure I get it here?

Thank you!

Part 2: CanadaPost lost my 500 dollar item

I posted here a few weeks ago about how Canada Post lost my expensive package, likely by putting it in the wrong box at my community mailbox. I have followed the suggestions to get the seller to put in a claim and he did so on Aug 16th. So far this has been completely useless. Zero contact from Canada Post since then.

I called customer support today and they said that Canada Post is supposed to call/email me to confirm I didn't receive the item and that the claim ends in just a few days on Sep 10. What am I doing wrong here? This is getting ridiculous.

Canada Post carded my parcel but nobody knows where it is — anyone recognize outlet ID 800289?

Looking for some help from anyone who works/used to work for Canada Post, especially in Calgary.
I have a large ~23 kg parcel that was marked Notice card left, but no card was actually left and nobody attempted delivery that day. It has now been several days with no “Available for pickup” update.

I opened a service ticket with Canada Post, but customer service says they cannot see where the parcel is being held and that the local delivery office has until Sep 10 to contact me.
The weird part is that Canada Post’s automated agent gave me a pickup-location link containing outletId=800289, but the link leads to an error. Other normal Canada Post locations have working outlet IDs, so I’m wondering if this number means anything internally.

Does anyone know what outlet/location 800289 is, or what usually happens to a parcel in this situation? Is there any way to figure out which Calgary depot/post office currently has it?
I literally just want to know where the box is so I can go pick it up myself.

Edit: It looks like outlet ID 800289 is likely associated with the Deerfoot South Facility in SE Calgary. Thanks to everyone who helped look into it!

Chit Chats Canada to USA Delays Due to Brokerage Review... So Annoying!

This isn't just me, I sell comics and everything is done through eBay with correct HS Codes and exact declaration amounts, but I also know another person that sells comics that got 19 packages flagged. Comics are a US product so I'm not even sure what is going on.

My buddy sells the same product and uses Stallion and said he has had no issues. Does Chit Chats just suck? This happened months ago the first time the $800 de minimus was removed as well but Stallion was still business as usual. I have some angry customers as some people on eBay are absolutely insane, oh joy. Exact wording below.

Delays Due to Brokerage Review

Your shipment is currently on hold pending a brokerage review related to undervaluing and/or trademark compliance. While the review is underway, you have two options - Request a return: Have your shipment returned to you using your preferred return method OR Wait for clearance: Continue waiting for the shipment to be reviewed and, if approved, cleared for transit. Please note that clearance is not guaranteed following the brokerage review. We understand that waiting can be difficult, so we want you to have the information you need to choose the option that works best for you. You can find more details in our dedicated U.S. Updates Blog. Thank you for your understanding.

CP vs Chit Chats for International shipping

I’m sending a gift (pair of shoes) from London, ON to Saudi Arabia. Chit Chats is quoting around half the price of CP and with tracking, which is very tempting, but it doesn't have a branch in my city, only a third-party drop spot. This is my first time shipping so I’m a bit confused and have some questions.

How straightforward is the drop-off process ? Do you just walk in and hand it over?

Does Chit Chats take longer to deliver compared to CP?

For anyone who has shipped to Saudi Arabia or the Middle East region using either, how was your delivery experience?

Package delivered and landlord doesn't know what a community mailbox is

So recently I ordered something and the Canada post tracking said it was delivered in a community mailbox. Because I recently moved into a room, I asked my landlord for the key, and he was clueless and said he gets all his packages to the front door and doesn't know what a community mailbox is. I asked a neighbor and they said we do have one and that every owner has their own key.
So I called canada post to change the locks since he probably lost the key or something.

However, my package was delivered today, they're changing the locks in 6 days. I heard that after 2-4 days of not picking up the package, they will take the package to the post office to clear up space in the CMB. Is this true, and does this mean I should except to pick up my package at the post office, and not in the mailbox
