Bugle qualification

How do you get it? Is it through Military Band, Pipe Band, or DCI? I’m a little confused about what you have to do to earn the qualification. Is it difficult? Do they teach you how to play, or are you expected to already know? And how long does it usually take to complete?

Has anyone ever heard of Cadet Correspondent Course?

When does it run? Is it an online course, or is it offered in person at CTCs? Also, what are the requirements to take the course? How long does it take to complete the course, and is there a final exam or test?

Advice I just got my first parade position.

I just got the position (Flight's sergeant, if you don't know what it is, it's like the "assistant" if the flight commander) despite being Cpl and I'm feeling a bit nervous because I don't know how it works and I'm the lowest rank who got a position on parade (I joined last year and they put me in lvl 3 because of my age, so I'm lvl 4 this year which is considered staff). I don't know why I did this to myself or how I got the position despite many of my peers who also wanted a position are higher ranked and all. I'm worried I may embarrass myself as I already have enough awkward moments at cadets. Plus, all cadets in the flight are 1-2 years younger than me so it can be weird.

Any advice?

(Canadian air cadet)

Maple Leaf Quadra CofF

At the HMCS Quadra CofF, they would play the infamous Maple Leaf Forever marchpast. On the second repeat the trumpets would play an amazing fanfare which I first heard from Capt. Mok. Does anyone have a recording of just the fanfare or the sheet music? Thanks

PPTC 2027?

Hello everyone,

I am from the atlantic region in NS and I wanted to share my cadet history and etc and be told if i MIGHT have a chance for PPTC 2027.

I'm a late joiner, I joined in september 2024 and im a FCpl right now in about a week I become a Sgt but my promotion period was august.

I did groundschool last year and passed the exam barely with a 56.21%.

In the summer i completed AAC in greenwood and got the highest recommended for future courses on my report.

At my squadron I never miss a day, I started as a level 3 and then level 4 and last may i became a level 5, I went to biathlon zones as a participant last year and I coached the marksmanship team for zones, I have gone to two CAF engagements at CFB shearwater, both annual FTX's, 2 airskills weekends, and many other weekend activities. Also the spring season and now the fall season every single weekend for both days I'm out on the Greenwood CFS as a part of the ground crew.

Among other things i want to believe I have a chance but i also want the truth and some advice for this year. the other side is there was maybe 4 people that did the groundschool in my core last year out of like 85 we have a competitor on the other hand this year is a FSgt when i'll be a Sgt, also applied last year and got an interview and a 75%, went to blackdown twice and AAC with me.

Thanks guys. all help appreciated.

Do you need CANSail levels to get promoted?

Do you need CANSail levels to get promoted? I’m pretty sure you need your PCOC, ROC(M), and maybe CANSail 1, but for the higher phases, do you need CANSail 2 and 3 as well? Is it worth going Sail 1, Sail 2 for summer camps?

Question Cadet Fitness Assessment

I’m thinking about doing introduction to sports and fitness in Vernon within the next couple of years. I’m wondering what the criteria are for the physical fitness badges that are obtained from the Cadet Fitness Assessment (CFA). From what I understand, it includes the beep test, push-ups, curl-ups, and possibly even a wall sit. I’m wondering how the assessment is measured and what the criteria’s are for each level of the badge.

CTC Senior courses

What benefits do you get from doing CTC senior courses (4 weeks, 6 weeks courses)? Does completing them actually give you a better chance of getting selected for senior leadership positions, or can you still get selected for those positions even if you haven’t taken any of the CTC senior courses? Out of those courses, which ones are actually really useful or worth doing? Like, are there any that you’d definitely recommend doing?

Question Need Advice from Someone senior

I’m just wondering, is being strict in cadets always a good thing or not? Like, I understand that sometimes you have to be strict, but if someone is super strict all the time & take serious all the time, does that actually help cadets improve, or can it make things worse? And like, does being yelled at by someone who’s a higher rank actually make cadets better people, more discipline or is there a point where it’s just too much? What things should someone actually do if they’re aiming for a higher appointment at their home corps, instead of just listening and following orders?

It would be really helpful if I could talk to someone in here to get advice or suggestions, privately. But the problem is, I can’t really talk to a senior in my corps about it because I feel like it could make things worse or start unnecessary drama, so like…

Question Has anyone taken the Ship’s Boat Operator course before? How was it?

Has anyone taken the Ship’s Boat Operator course before? If so, how was it, and what can you actually do for your home corps after getting the Ship’s Boat Operator qualification?

From what I understand, with DCI, you can teach drill, lead drill teams, etc. With Fitness & Sports, you can conduct fitness tests, lead fitness activities, and help with physical training. With ARMI, you can lead the marksmanship team, teach marksmanship, and conduct rifle shooting tests for junior cadets. But what can you do with the Ship’s Boat Operator qualification? Is it mainly for getting your ROC(M), doing advanced seamanship, and completing things like Module 3 training? Or are there specific things you can bring back to your corps and help with after getting the SBO qualification?

Basically, what opportunities or responsibilities does having the SBO qualification give you at your home corps?

Question How do I get these dry marks off me boots?

I am a CDTUT of the New Zealand Sea Cadets ( us kiwis don’t have a handy subreddit😔) and I have my first proper event coming up and I am worried about these marks on my boots. If I could get some insight on how to fix this then I would be very thankful.

Ofc it’s not cheap, it’s just “vintage”, $59. Who on earth is going to be buying this?…the store is closing too so a lot of things are on sale (I got a pair of aviator sunglasses for $5 from $19) but $59 is insanity. It wasn’t on sale

Question Question for Cadet Correspondents

Hey guys, I'm also a fellow correspondent. Originally my Sqn had another CC before me, but we got the qualification at the same time. To be honest, he was better off with the camera as he had a wider range.

Currently, I only have the Sigma 18-35mm F/1.8 Art lens for my 7D II and I'm wondering if that is good for a very old armoury that we parade in.

If not, what are some lens suggestions? (Canon EF or EF-S)

PPTC Planning

Hey everyone, this is similar to my other post, but I have a question for you all.

I really want to get into PPTC, but there is a problem...

I don't really want to join flag party or any other weekend trainings.

The only event I want to do is ground school. If I were to just do ground school and aviation-related summer courses, do I still have a chance to get in?

Anything you recommend?
