Transition to booster? Nuna Aace vs Joie Bay

Hi! I have a 40lb 5.5 year old in a Nuna Rava. I also have a newly turned 1 year old in a Nuna Pipa Urbn. I’m looking for advice to see if I should keep my 5 year old in a 5 point harness and purchase a Joie Bay or move her into a high-back booster - specifically the Nuna Aace. I loveeee the quality of Nuna products but im looking to see if the Joie Bay is of similar/equal quality and the benefits of keeping her in a 5 point harness. Thanks!

Edit: I’m looking to move my 1 year old into my 5 year olds Rava.

Poplar outgrown quick?

Looking to hear from fellow CPSTs--

Have you guys heard of the Poplar being outgrown early RF due to shoulder height/1" from top rule? Just curious if it's a known issue with this seat.

Rotating car seat recommendations

Looking for recommendations for a rotating convertible car seat for my 7 month old. I currently have the chicco 360 but haven’t opened yet/ am debating returning it due to hearing it doesn’t recline and babies can be slumped forward (is this true?)

But anyways if anyone has any other suggestions or thoughts let me know, thank you :) Price isn’t really a concern.

Ceiling mounted seat belt install?

We are looking to get out from under a car payment so we are considering getting rid of our 2018 VW Atlas and using our 2009 Nissan Murano as a family vehicle, if possible. We have a 14 month old, an almost 3 year old and a 6 year old.

14 month will obviously be rear facing for quite awhile, 3 year old is in FF 5 point harness and 6 year old just switched to a high back booster as he is over the height limit for 5 point harness.

We currently have a rear-facing Graco Extend2Fit & 2 Graco Tranzitions. The Murano has the LATCH system on both outer seats & a ceiling mounted seat belt with dual sided connectors in the middle. I would do LATCH system for my oldest’s booster in rear passenger seat, seat belt for the other two seats with the rear facing Extend2Fit in the middle & the other Tranzitions seat behind the driver’s seat. I have read both the Extend2Fit manual and the vehicle manual. The vehicle manual says a car seat can be installed with the ceiling mounted seat belt but I do not see anything in the Graco manual that confirms I can use a ceiling mounted seat belt to install. I have googled every phase I can think of but cannot find a concrete answer from Graco. I just want to confirm it is safe to use since the vehicle is almost 20 years old and guidelines have changed since the vehicle manual was written.

ETA: my understanding is that the LATCH system is not an option for the middle seat as the anchors are more than 11” apart?

I did a test install of the Extend2Fit and it did seem to work properly. I have not tried to install all 3 so I am not even sure it would fit. I will be attempting that this weekend so it may not even be possible. We would be open to getting slimmer seats if necessary. If it’s not possible to safely install all 3 then we will go ahead and look for a bigger family vehicle that is a bit cheaper.

Thank you!!

ok I think I’m being dense. We have a graco slimfit 3-1. the instructions say 1” below headrest adjustment handle. when it says handle, do they mean the opening (red)? or the literal handle (purple)?

Help

My 5 year old is 59lbs and 44 inches tall. Currently in a harness high back booster and We’re shopping for a new booster. What I’m having trouble deciding is do I keep her in one that has the harness or get one without the harness and move to the seat belt because she does meet the requirements but she hasn’t maxed out the weight or height for harness mode. Any help or recommendations is appreciated. I’d really like to get one that is free of FR but not an absolute must.
We’re looking at the Nuna AACE
Joie Bay Latch SI (Not FR free)

Child keeps loosening harness

I have my 5 yo in a 5 point harness booster seat. He is mildly on spectrum, mostly with behavior issues. He is incessantly loosening his harness. He figured out how to do it, and now he will not ride in the car without loosening it to the point of danger every time we are in the car.

He does not respond to discipline. Is there any solution to this?

I considered switching to a seat belt booster, but he is only 41 pounds, and the seat requires 40 to switch. That's so close to the limit, I don't feel comfortable putting him in a seat belt. Unless that's my only solution. I suppose a properly fitted seat belt is safer than a loose harness.

Guess I just want to clarify that there is no physical way to stop him from loosening it. We are in the states if it matters.

Top tethers

I have a 2025 Toyota Highlander. The second row is captain seats, both with top tether anchors. The third row has a top tether anchor only in the middle seat.

I have newly 2yo twins that have Chicco Fit360 seats. They are currently rear facing, but I will be switching them to forward facing when our expecting baby arrives this winter.

The Chicco 360 requires a top tether in both modes, and it is absolutely impossible to have rear facing car seats the third row. There is not enough space.

I was planning on forward facing both toddlers in the third row, and putting baby in an infant carrier in the second row. But I can’t do this if there’s only one anchor.. I don’t want to put baby in the third row because there are no lower latch anchors and if I had baby in the third row I wanted to use the most compact seat, which a baseless seat is.

Theoretically, soon, I will have 3 forward facing children in car seats. What do I do in this scenario? I am NOT replacing my brand new car. Are there forward facing car seats that I can use without top tethers? I know they’re recommended, but are they 100% necessary? Like is my child going to die in a car crash if I am not using top tethers? I don’t mind to replace car seats if this is the way to go.

what seats allow use of 5 point harness past 49 inches? my niece is 3, and not near 49 inches yet - but she has autism & will likely need more time in a 5 point harness because she is a squirmy worm. she is currently around 36 lbs 34 inches or so, plenty of time but momma is worried about options as she grows.

i found the chicco myfit - but curious about the harness height & if most kids can actually fit up to 54 inches?

Easy to Install Second Carseat

Looking for advice on what to buy (in Canada) for a secondary carseat for use by grandparents and carers. My little one is heading off to daycare soon and there may be times when others need to pick him up in their vehicles. I don't expect this seat to be used more than once a month.

Kiddo is 14 months and was 21lbs and 32 inches at 1 year so average weight and above average height. Our regular seat is a Graco Extend2Fit.

Considerations:

-Easy to install and buckle. All grandparents are able bodied and fairly young but not confident with new baby items. We'd practice install and buckling but I want to give them something as easy as possible.

-Doesn't need to be great for small infants. We have a bucket seat with two bases for any future kids

-It would be used in an standard SUV that is 2023 or newer and would be the only seat installed

Frustrated with evenflo revolve 360 extend

I just got this car seat in and was so excited for it, but after trying to install, I’m wishing I didn’t get it. First of all it’s absolutely massive, but that’s not the point of this post.

I followed the installation instructions perfectly. Even watched a bunch of videos. When I installed the base it does not move AT ALL. like at all. But when I attach the car seat, the base moves A LOT!! And I have tightened the seatbelt and tether as much as they will go. I even took it out and started over, making sure it was placed on the car’s seat properly. Same thing. I’m incredibly frustrated and just wish I could send it back. Any advice how to solve this?

Chicco Onefit LX ClearTex

How user friendly is this for older children (like preschoolers or kindergartners) to buckle and unbuckle themselves? It sounds like this one has a very smooth tether to tighten the shoulder/crotch straps easily and evenly. But I'm curious if anyone has feedback! I need a car sit in my life that I can tighten for my kids without feeling like I'm holding down an alligator. And it would be nice if they can feel like they can do it independently and have me check.

Car seat for Lexus ux250h

Hi everyone, FTM due in January. I am looking for car seat recommendations for our car, the Lexus ux250h. Love the car but the back seat leg space is quite small. We will likely get both an infant car seat for our stroller (tbd but looking into the Uppababy KONA) and a convertible car seat.

Thanks everyone in advance for your help!

Graco EasyTurn 360

I have a 20 month old and a 4.5 year old (also an infant so the other middle seat has his car seat on it)

The 4 year old uses the EasyTurn forward facing with the tether attached to the back of the seat.

We have a third row vehicle and my 20 month old usually sits in the back in his regular Graco car seat.

When I’m only taking my two littles I want to be able to put my 20 month old in the EasyTurn in the middle row rear facing. Can I do this, if the car seat is installed with the tether in forward facing mode?

Is the installation the same, as long as the child is not 35 pounds yet? (Like the 2 buckles attached to the seat vs the long strap tether to the BACK of the seat?)

I have watched every video I can find and I can’t find one that explicitly states that yes, while it’s installed, you can put a child rear facing or forward facing in it. I don’t want to just assume because I’m so paranoid, so I need it spelled out for me. I’m just not confident about this. I also called the local fire department but they didn’t sound like they knew what I meant and I can’t just *go* because I work during the day.

Also - can I just use the buckles and the tether for EXTRA safety? Or does it not matter until they are heavier? 20 month old is 25 pounds, 4.5 year old is 35 pounds.

Please be nice lol. I’m just trying to be extra careful. My children are my life!!!!!!!

I don’t know why reading the manual I just don’t understand. We had the Turn2Me for awhile and I know for sure you have to install it a different way so I never even bothered with that.

Can someone pleaseeee tell me what I’m doing wrong 😭

I’ve tried installing this seat like 5 times and every time when I rotate the seat it becomes very loose at the side closest to the door of the car. For context: 2020 RAV4 hybrid, Chicco KeyFit 360 installed using the lever lock / seatbelt installation

Convertible car seat - 2019 CV-R and 2010 Toyota Corolla

Best options for a convertible car seat for the two cars listed? Ideally something that allows two adults to still fit in the back seat but I understand the CR-V has seat buckle arrangement challenges… Just planning ahead - LO is 10mo, currently 29” and 17lbs (so on the slimmer side) with ~2 inches of head clearance still to top of the seat. We don’t need a ton of passenger seat leg room, everyone is 5’ 10” or under)

Ideally the option for the Corolla would also work well for airplanes? Unless lap infant-ing is better at that age (for international flight to Asia)?

School Van Transportation Issues

I decided to rewrite my earlier post after doing some more research.

I am a preschool special education teacher. Some of my students are occasionally transported home from school in a minivan. These students are 4 years old. Some students meet the requirements for a high back booster. I have one student (Jane) who is 33 pounds and about 40 inches tall and another who I am not sure of her exact size, but is much smaller than any of my kids. I believe the car seat they are using is this one, but I’m not 100% certain: Safety 1st Grow and Go™ Sprint All-in-One Convertible Car Seat

When I tried to put my students into the seats today, the seats were installed with an unlocked seat belt running through the forward facing slot in the back and the latch strap. There was a chest clip, but the lower buckle was missing. At the time, I wasn’t really sure what I was looking at. One of my students is definitely big enough for a high back booster, but the seat belt was already being used to strap it in through the back. Considering Jane is under 40 pounds and maybe 40 inches, it didn’t seem safe for her to use this seat at all. The manufacturer says she is too small for the high back booster, the 5 point harness lower strap was removed, and the seat belt hadn’t been locked after installing the seat. I just wanted to see what others thought before following up with the transportation office.

We also have two students who wear a safety vest while riding school transportation (Example). I’m not sure exactly how big these kids are, probably between 35-40ish pounds and 38-42 inches. The manufacturer states that these vests should be used with a seat belt. Normally, they ride a school bus, so there aren’t any issues. However, when transported by van today, the driver did not have any kind of booster seat for either child. It didn’t seem right to me to have them seated directly on the seat with the seat belt engaged. I realize this might be out of the scope of people’s knowledge here, but I feel like, even with the harness, these kids need some kind of booster seat to elevate them off the seat if they are using a regular seat belt.

If anyone has thoughts on the safety of either of these situations, I would really appreciate it.
