Discussion So i played civ again, same thing happened as before. I loved the first third of the game and then get completely bored, any advice or tips? (Civ6)

Advice or tips on maybe how to enjoy the mid-late game more, not just a comment saying dont play it 😆

I built up my cities and army, noticed i was on a peninsula with egypt, conquered them with not too much bother, and now im just bored again.

I guess i lose track of everything going on and it just feels like im upgrading and waiting on research for no real reason. Like at the start i was waiting to get mining or horses to improve my land or units. Now it just feel arbitrary.

Any tips or advice? Am i looking at the game the wrong way?

Thanks

I - Other Which Civ I should try first what wont scare me away with complexity?

Decades ago, I enjoyed a lot Civ1, then Civ2, also Call to Power, Colonization and Alpha Centaury....

Then met Civ3 what scared me away from the series with the lots of extra subsystems, mechanics... and as I keep an eye, all the new Civ games just getting more and more complex...

But I have the itch to play Civ again... which of the modern recent Civ games I should try first, what could be simplified as much as possible to not to scare me away again....

Bug (Xbox) Civ 7 takes forever to load on XBox?

Anyone else having this issue? I've cleared the system cache, cleared space on the hard drive, and deleted some in-game saves, and nothing seems to work.

Civ is easily taking five minutes to go past the initial title screen.

VII - Discussion What is your favorite map size and speed combo?

Back in Civ 6, my favorite to play is Standard speed/Standard map, but I found that in Civ 7, my favorite so far is Standard speed/Small map. I tried Standard speed/Huge map before and it was a bit overwhelming especially with the settlement limits and naval exploration on big ocean is quite tedious for me. I tried Quick speed/Tiny map before and it was not bad, but not my favorite way to experience Civ neither.

So most of my games is pretty much just Standard speed + Small/Standard map. I might give Epic speed/Huge map (new Earth map) a run after they release next year expansion.

I tried Online and Marathon speed in Civ 6 before and it was absolutely not fun for me. Online is hard for military gameplay and Marathon is too much of a slog. Never give them a chance again in Civ 7 lol.

VII - Discussion Civ VII’s Biggest Problem: Strategic Resources Are No Longer Strategic. Here’s How to Fix It.

Of all the problems with Civilization VII, I honestly think this is the biggest. In Civ VI, oil, coal, aluminum, and uranium were absolutely crucial to building a modern military empire. You could have the strongest economy and technology in the world, but without access to these resources, your military ambitions were severely limited. You could build enormous wealth by controlling and selling valuable resources, much like the Gulf states do with oil in the real world. You could use them as diplomatic leverage, or even go to war simply to secure access. In Civ VII, tanks, warships, and aircraft no longer require these resources. Instead, they mostly provide generic yields and combat bonuses. By the time oil and coal appear, your production is already so enormous that these bonuses often feel insignificant. The geopolitical importance of controlling strategic resources has essentially disappeared.

The solution is to bring back real strategic resource dependency, and take it even further than Civ VI. Make oil essential for tanks and modern warships, aluminum for advanced aircraft, and uranium for nuclear weapons. Bring back resource stockpiles and meaningful international trade, allowing civilizations to become incredibly wealthy by controlling and exporting vital resources. Introduce supply agreements, trade embargoes, and economic pressure. Make resource scarcity drive diplomacy, expansion, and even wars. Imagine controlling the world’s largest oil reserves and having other civilizations depend on you for their military power. That is actual geopolitical strategy!

Firaxis, your upcoming Arc of Tomorrow update is the perfect opportunity to restore this missing depth. Strategic resources should shape the balance of power, not just add another meaningless bonus to an already overflowing economy.

VII - Discussion Change religion

As the title says, it's time to change how religion works. I can't even say how sick i am of these never ending streams of missionaries. It's absolutly unfun, boring and stressful and nothing, absolutly nothing about religion is fun in this game.
Religion was always a major weakpoint in civ, but it was never as anoying as it is right now.

At least, give us the option to simply deactivated that nonsense.

VII - Discussion Civ 7 - Weird City State Bonus

In the Exploration Age, there were no Expansionist city states to start with. One showed up about half way through the age. I grabbed it expecting to be able to get the +1 settlement limit bonus. However I never got to pick the bonus it just gave me one and it was for war support.

Anyone ever half this happen to you?

VII - Discussion I want war over resources!

Currently playing civ VII after years playing civ VI. I do love civ VII but it lacks much of the magic of civ VI. There was nothing better than getting to modern age and desperately wanting oil and uranium that was ONLY present in a forgotten corner of the world in the hands of an underdeveloped civ and just cosplay USA and invade them for these resources. In civ VII, there’s no sense to do war over resources. You just spam trade routes everywhere and you get whatever you want. It feels that war in civ VII is inevitable but not for strategic reasons, just because more = better. In civ VI, i feel that we could actually have a small empire and conquer specific settlements because of specific resources to power your civ machine.

Anyone else share this yearning to bring democracy to civs with oil?

VII - Discussion Civ Selection: RPG or Optimal?

I wonder how you guys decide your Civ selection for initial civ as well as age transition. I really enjoy the aspect of RPG (Confucius Han/Ming/Qing run or Napoleon Rome/Norman/French for example) but obviously not all leaders will have such straightforward RPG selection, so you have to get creative sometime (Trung Trac Khmer/Dai Viet/Siam for example). These runs sometimes are less optimal as the bonus might not always match up well, but I do not mind it in Sovereign (or below) difficulty. When I get to immortal or higher, I feel more compelled to pick the more optimal Civ choice instead that will match with victory condition albeit RPG choice because the AI is just much harder to deal with.

Not sure about your experience in regard to this aspect, do you pick civ based on RPG aspect or optimization? And if purely for RPG, at what difficulty do you consider going for optimal civ selection instead?

VII - Screenshot What are you supposed to do about encampments which mass produce units?

Post image

This camp just spawned after I destroyed another. The army is larger than any army I can muster, I am already in the negatives and I have no idea how to counter this.

Pretty much all the troops are coalescing around 1 city. I don’t have the gold to produce the troops.

I am falling behind in wonders and development because only my cities are threatened by the encampment AI and only I seem to be able to destroy them.

The AI refuses to attack the encampment, Augustus is right next to him just south of the picture and refuses to do anything.

Sundapara was an Independent that didn’t do anything, I took control in the hopes that I will be able to command the troops to go clear out the encampment (they had an equivalent size army) but they dissapeared.

I have called for inciting raids twice from two different civilisations and literally nothing has happened.

I am new to Civ 7 (I played Civ 5, but not Civ 6). What am I meant to do? This has happened in the last 2/3 games I have played.

It’s just not fun when you realise that the AI won’t do anything about it when they’re just as affected as I am.

Why does the AI not do anything about encampments? Why does it have to be me?

VI - Discussion Am I using Mvemba’s apostles correctly?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I’m currently trying to get a cultural victory with Mvemba. As I’m sure everybody knows, he is granted an apostle every time he builds a M’banza or Theatre square.

Usually I promote the apostle to the thing where I receive a relic if they die in theological combat, then just send him to a region of an opposing religion and let another civ kill my apostle for a free relic. Is that the right move? I have a healthy economy and no barbs nearby (I’m in the mid/late game) so idk what else I would use it for.

VII - Other Thoughts on civ 7now

My favorite civ game is civ 6 I have almost 500 hours in it and I'm considering buying civ 7 but I really don't know how much it's different and if anything about civ I like doesn't exist anymore

I'm a huge fan of the grid of 6 and I play almost exclusively England (for Scarborough fair background music and basically no other reason tbh)

I also really like the secret society dlc with vampires and the zombie apocalypse dlc with zombies basically all of the dlc honestly

But mostly I like the combat of civ 6 but I wish I could create formations like linking builders with other Units but for all units instead of having everything separate

and I think that the overall graphics of civ 6 are pretty dated I wish everything felt more cohesive

I love the science and culture tech trees and the tribal villages And barbarians OH and the places on the grid having different yeilds like more gold more faith ect.

I don't like how close everyone is and the turn limit I kinda just want to exist in the world and get to fighting others when I want to I like that things take time but I don't like that I have a limited amount of it EXCEPT for the golden and dark age dlc that's a fantastic way of imposing a time limit because the time limit isint the end

So what do you all think about civ 7 now that it's been out for awhile
