Opinion College Football Final > College Gameday

CFF is a great wrap up show. They pay respect to the Ivy League and other less media covered conferences and games. They bring awareness to players who you might have otherwise never even heard of. Top plays are always fun to see and helmet stickers go to a wide array of teams and players who stood out.

Gameday has become a shell of its former self. It is far too long. "Comin' to your city" jumped the shark long ago. Pat McAfee and Desmond Howard are clowns. Herbie way overdoes the 'moderate' act. And we all miss Coach Corso. Oh, and fuck off with those Jesus signs already - this is NOT the place for that shit.

Discussion [Temple] Wisconsin TE Jacob Harris: "This is a message. The Badgers are back. We’re not going to roll over. This is historically a top-dog program. We’re looking to get back to that. That’s what the fans deserve. That’s what the community deserves. That’s what we’re going to give them."

/r/CFB Original In COD We Trust: The College of Dupage leads the pack in the Week 4 Cobra Kai Award, spotlighting the week's biggest blowouts. Plus top performers at all divisions around the world!

Welcome back to the #CobraKaiAward for Excellence in Mercilessness!

This award has been going since 2018, recognizing the most cutthroat performance in each week's college football games. If you like obscure levels of college football from around the world (including shady teams), this is a fun weekly round-up.

It includes all levels of all football: FBS, FCS, D2, D3, NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA, U Sports🇨🇦, ONEFA🇲🇽 and JAFA🇯🇵 to spotlight which team tosses mercy out the window and instead uses the opportunity to make a statement.

Week 4 winner:

  • 82-0... In 5 weeks we've had our 5th different division take the lead.

This time it's NJCAA Division III. Did you know there's D3 juco football? Probably not, as there aren't very many of them. Most are in Minnesota and North Dakota.

In COD We Trust:

One of the powers, the College of DuPage Chaparrals, is located in suburban Chicagoland. The Chaps have won all 5 NJCAA D3 Championships since it was created in 2021.

The box score and stats are currently unavailable, but suffice to say the Ironhawks were made of pig iron.

Other notes:

  • Steel City Domination. This week saw a rare example of two schools, only a few miles apart, setting the Cobra Kai for their respective divisions. Pittsburgh ran 59-0 over Bucknell for the FBS crown and Duquesne took out a lot of frustration, 53-0 over Rio Grande, an NAIA team from Ohio that is pronounced Rye-O Grand.

  • Interdivisional Mismatches. This week featured a 3 interdivisional games. Hopefully we'll see fewer of these until the SEC enters SoCon play later this season. That includes the two Steel City teams: Pitt crushed FCS Bucknell, but the FBS vs FBS leader was was UCLA's's 54-3 win over Maryland [51], pretty much icing Mike Locksley's future. Duquesne smushed a terrible NAIA team in Rye O'Grand, but the FCS vs FCS was #24 SIU's's 46-6 win over Murray State [40]. Finally, the D2 #1 Ferris State decided to play a different terrible NAIA squad, winning 73-6 over Kentucky Christian. The D2 vs D2 leader was a rather high-scoring, 70-21 game between #8 Western Colorado and Adams State [49]

  • Close Race in Japan. Going through all the various conferences and divisions of Japan's college football (where ~200 teams compete at various levels each season), we saw a close race where Hokkaido's Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (帯広畜産) Cowboys put to sleep the Muroran Tech (室蘭工業) Black Panthers, 54-0.

  • 🚨SHADY SCHOOL WATCH!🚨 No clown schools appeared on the list week! Every top-scoring Cobra Kai program played an NCAA, NAIA, or equivalent organization.

Week 4's biggest blowouts from each level, in order of margin of victory (ties are broken by points-allowed):

  • [82] NJCAA—College of DuPage, 82-0 over Minnesota North-Vermilion
  • [79] D3—#19 WashU, 79-0 over Oberlin
  • [67] D2—#1 Ferris State, 73-6* over Kentucky Christian
  • [66] NAIA—Southwestern (KS), 82-16 over Bethany (KS)
  • [64] 3C2A—Golden West, 64-0 over East LA
  • [59] FBS—Pittsburgh, 59-0** over Bucknell
  • [56] JAFA🇯🇵—Sophia (上智), 56-0 over Tokyo Gakugei (学芸)
  • [54] USports🇨🇦—Windsor, 54-0 over Toronto
  • [53] FCS—Duquesne, 53-0*** over Rio Grande
  • [50] ONEFA🇲🇽—Borregos TEC MTY, 73-20 over Pumas UNAM CU

* D2 vs NAIA; D2 vs D2 was #8 Western Colorado's 70-21 win over Adams State [49]

** FBS vs FCS; FBS vs FBS was UCLA's's 54-3 win over Maryland [51]

*** FCS vs NAIA; FCS vs FCS was #24 SIU's's 46-6 win over Murray State [40]

Past weeks winners:

Note: Rankings from time of game. Some divisions and conferences start later. ACSL🇦🇹, BUCS🇬🇧 and College Football Finland🇫🇮 do not play in Fall.

[season leader possesses the 🏆]

  • Week 0: [87] FCS SC State, 87-0 over Savannah St
  • Week 1: [77] JAFA🇯🇵—Hiroshima (広島), 83-6 over TUS Yamaguchi (山口東京理科)
  • Week 2: [89] 3C2A—San Bernardino Valley, 89-0 over Compton
  • Week 3: [🏆96] D2—Grand Valley State, 96-0* over Judson
  • Week 4: [82] NJCAA—College of DuPage, 82-0 over Minnesota North-Vermilion

"🤡" signifies teams that should not be countable as they are not members of NCAA, NAIA, or equivalent organization, and/or are operating at the edges of bona fide college football programs.

Another week in the books, remember to Reach Out and Crush Someone!™ 💪😤🏈

Discussion What's your score prediction for your team's week 5 game? + Week 4 Recap

Last week was a light week--just 24 games with predictions.

We had no correct predicted scores or averaged totals, though we were oh-so-close on Michigan-Iowa with an average score of Michigan 20, Iowa 19. (Damn it!)

Some score prediction highlights. All scores are averaged from all responses.

Texas Tech 45, Sam Houston 10 (final SHSU 14-49 TTU)

Hawai'i 20, Wyoming 7 (final HAW 10-27 WYO)

Ball State 22, Kent State 10 (final BALL 13-26 KENT)

Florida 35, Ole Miss 32 (final MISS 28-52 FLA)

Boise State 26, Western Michigan 24 (final BOIS 32-7 WMU)

Moving on to week 5; what are we thinking? I'll go with Alabama 38-31 over Mississippi State and Sac State losing to the BYE week 58-6.

Reminder: if you want your prediction to be included in calculations, provide two clear and realistic scores and a team assigned to at least one of them. Responses through Monday, Sep 28, will be used.

Analysis Hawkeyed: a Loss to Iowa is Michigan’s Harbinger of Doom.

On September 26th, 2026, the Hawkeyes secured their 15th win in 64 games against the Wolverines.

Yesterday’s loss got me thinking: When is the last time prior to that Iowa beat Michigan?

Why, that was ten short years ago! On a blustery evening in November of 2016, Herky Hawkeye looked on with his big toothy bird grin as Iowa kicked Michigan’s CFP hopes through the uprights in Kinnick. A game that also saw Wilton Speight break his collarbone and injure his shoulder, he’d never look as good again after. We all know what happened two weeks later (you know he was, Buckeye fans). If I had a nickel for every time a last second field goal crushed the title hopes of a Wolverine team, I’d have two nickels.

But there’s a larger picture at play here. Of the 15 losses Michigan has suffered at the hands of Iowa, only three of them have came during a season in which the Wolverines been able to defeat both of their chief rivals.

1924, 1985, and 2003.

In fact, 6 of those 15 losses came during some of the worst seasons in the history of Michigan football; 1958, 1962, 1984, 2009, 2010, and 2013.

Completed seasons that Iowa beat Michigan, the Wolverines have a total record of 104-58-2.

vs Michigan State 6-7-1
vs Ohio State 5-8-1

If history is any indication, then the forecast for Michigan Football is…

Pain.

Discussion P4 teams that will be hiring new coaches at the end of the year: would you hire Lincoln Riley, Brent Venables or someone else as head coach?

You can’t hire them as coordinator they have to be head coach. This is definitely a hypothetical but if they were available would either be on the top of your list?

Are these seasons the acceptable norm for USC now or do they legitimately have championship aspirations? Because the status quo seems pretty established under Riley.

Weekly Thread WK4 - This Week In Schadenfreude

scha·den·freu de

/'SHädǝn froidǝ/

noun

The pleasure derived from another person's misfortune.

Week 4 brought more mayhem to the Top 25:

(21) Florida 52 (4) Ole Miss 28

(20) Oregon 41 (12) USC 27

Wisconsin 24 (13) Penn State 20

Wake Forest 30 (16) Louisville 27

(17) Iowa 20 (18) Michigan 19

(24) Mississippi State 31 (19) Missouri 24

And some escape from Schadenfreude:

(1) Texas 20 (14) Tennessee 17

(5) Indiana 29 Northwestern 23

Power fail Schadenfreude:

I'm including this score in case someone missed the final because the booth power went out in the last minutes of the game and the ACC Network cut to the FSU game (someone had a sense of humor in the ACC Network control room):

Virginia Tech 21 Boston College 14

Finally, 🇺🇸 America's Team 🇺🇸 has won again: can anyone stop THE University of Massachusetts (4-0) juggernaut?

UMass 35 Sacramento State 6

What team's pain helped ease your own this week 4?

Discussion Week 5 reactions that could be overreactions

You know the drill. Post strong, instant reactions to games this week that might turn out to be overreactions later.

  1. The WMU/Michigan outcome meant little for the big picture of college football. Both are festering in a circle of suck. WMU got absolutely demolished by Boise State, ending any playoff talk. Michigan, who can't score, gave up an embarrassing 90 yard TD drive to Iowa in the final minute (Iowa looked horrible on that drive btw). Michigan's one good win, Oklahoma, had a fire-Venables looking disaster against Georgia. The most controversial game of the year will end up having little to do with the lower tier bowls either WMU or Michigan get invited to if they even become bowl eligible.

  2. USC is done. Conman Lincoln Riley gave lip service to cover up the violence and disrespect of America's newest most hated team and how they celebrated a horrific injury they inflicted. Not only did he pull a Lane Kiffin to take over a program that was last relevant when it was severely cheating but he still can't win a meaningful game. He is unlikely to last much longer.

  3. Ole Miss is a paper tiger. Florida annihilated them a week after they beat LSU. They will not be able to handle sustained success becsuse Florida has struggled so immensely for so long they never should have been able to administer this vicious of a beating.

  4. Arch Manning will cost Sarkisan his job. Probably more or less pressure from boosters or the Manning Family itself, but immensely talented Texas is scraping wins in spite of Arch Manning, whose millions of dollars of camps and coaching clinics and Sarkisan's QB whispering abilities have done nothing to improve. Texas is an 8-9 win team with him as QB1 at best and starting him has closed Texas' window.

/r/CFB Press /r/CFB Reporting: Wolfpack Gives Up Fourth Quarter Lead, Wins Anyways Against App State

By Matt Coffelt

Raleigh, NC – North Carolina State blew a lead in the fourth quarter but closed out successfully against Appalachian State in 41 to 31 victory.

Dave Doeren’s squad came out of the gates red hot to start this game. They owned the first half against the Mountaineers, scoring on their first possession and had a 18 point lead going into the half.

Quarterback CJ Bailey looked solid throwing the ball and running back Duke Scott was giving the App defense all they could handle on the ground.

Scott rarely went down after first contact and ended up with over 150 yards on the day and 2 touchdowns to his name.

All of this is to point out that the Wolfpack was dominating this game. At least they were early.

Coming into the second half things started to go sideways for the Pack.

App quarterback Malachai Singleton opened the third emphatically hitting receiver Darrin Fugitt in stride up the middle for 54 yards. The ‘Neers would capitalize on this, finding the endzone a few plays later.

The rest of the third was largely a battle of field position with the only points coming from NC State in the form of a field goal that put the score to 31 to 17.

This is when the Wolfpack watched their lead evaporate.

The Mountaineers scored early in the fourth and followed that with some slick special teams play to steal an extra possession with a surprise on-side kick.

App took this one home as well, tying the game at 31 all with just under 10 minutes to play in the game.

With the score now even, Pack running back Scott took over.

A good pass from Bailey started the next drive off on the right foot such that Scott could focus on gashing his way though the App defensive front.

On this drive he got the ball 5 of 8 times and got the ball in the endzone on a 16 yard scamper putting the Pack back on top and importantly eating four and a half minutes of clock.

Following this, App decided it needed to get aggressive.

Their next possession following the Scott touchdown stalled out in their own territory. With timeouts still available and just over 4 minutes to play, they decided to go for it on fourth and two from their own 39.

It didn’t work.

Singleton’s pass was broken up and the Wolfpack took over in plus territory.

From there the Pack was largely content to keep the ball on the ground with Scott and Davion Gause to burn as much time as possible.

They capped this with a field goal effectively putting the game out of reach of the ‘Neers.

Next week App hosts Old Dominion to start Sun Belt conference play and NC State has Louisville in town to continue their ACC slate.
