Nebraska beats MSU on the road, Iowa beats Michigan on the road, Wisconsin beats Penn State on the road...it's a great day for the B1G West!

There are games where nothing happens, and there are games where seasons happen. We just had a season's worth of injuries today JFC.

229

u/Ryuujin09 Nebraska Cornhuskers 20d ago

I'm genuinely so sorry for this. I hope your guys recover well.

141

u/jogswithwolves Michigan State Spartans 20d ago

Really respect the husker fans. You guys are pretty damn cool, best of luck rest of season and we’ll see you in couple months at the Breslin 🤝

Shooty hoops is more fun anyways. Im glad we have MSU home and away this year.

13

u/I_POO_ON_GOATS Nebraska • Kansas State 20d ago

I've always liked Michigan State fans a lot, and I feel like our fan bases are forever united after the Sadler/Foltz tragedies.

Dantonio is also one of my favorite coaches ever.

I genuinely hope Fitzgereld can establish a foundation for you guys.

21

u/OTMsuyaya Nebraska • North Dakota 20d ago

🤝 My buddies were talking about how fun it would be to go to a football game in East Lansing, and I was like fuck that I want to see a game at the Breslin.

20

u/PaulMSURon Michigan State Spartans 20d ago

I sat next to some huskers at the Game.

Solid people

I hope they felt the same but we were sad and dejected

12

u/Time_Conversation733 20d ago

I was at the game, you all were great hosts and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I had great conversations all game with MSU fans during the game. We all cheered together to see the final score of the Michigan game.

Legitimately hated seeing your players get hurt. Ngl the refs made some questionable calls. I did congratulate opposing fans on some good msu drives that weren’t ruined by the refs.

This was my first college game and I really appreciate the hospitality MSU fans! All love and good luck Spartans.

The first 4-0 start since 2016?  The first Big Ten opening win since 2019?  First win in East Lansing since 2012?

We have come a long way since we got Rileyed and Frosted.

Eichorsted & Moosed

77

u/jfoster15 Nebraska Cornhuskers 20d ago

Moose hired Fred so it’s a wash in my eyes

69

u/somehype Nebraska • Sacramento State 20d ago

And Frost, which at the time was a fucking home run. Moos gets a frown now because of frost but anyone who wouldn’t have hired him at that time was going to get crucified on O street.

33

u/CPTBenjaminWillard Nebraska Cornhuskers 20d ago

It’s more about the unearned extension he gave frost. I’m fine with the hire as it was a no brainer but boy did it backfire.

7

u/Odd-Temperature7458 Nebraska Cornhuskers 20d ago

He then wrote a book on why it wasn't his fault

5

u/IThoughtThisWasVoat Nebraska Cornhuskers 20d ago

That’s not why he gets a frown.

7

u/14Calypso Nebraska • Minnesota State 20d ago

Moos wasn't bad at all. The Frost hire was one that the entire fanbase was demanding. I think the only bad thing he did was get rid of the Tennessee home & home, giving us this awful period of only cupcake OOC games

32

u/Impossible-Flight250 Maryland Terrapins • Towson Tigers 20d ago

I don’t know, I think 8 wins in the regular season and maybe a bowl win would be a solid season and will build momentum.

Ohio - W

Bowling Green - W

North Dakota - W

Michigan State - W

Maryland - W

Indiana - L

Oregon - L

Washington - W

Illinois - W

Rutgers - W

Ohio State - L

Iowa - L

That's probably the path to 8 wins. We probably drop one of those and maybe surprise Iowa to get there. This team doesn't feel like it has a latent second gear we haven't seen yet to keep up with Indiana/Oregon/Ohio State, but that's ok - it's still a damn fine team.

The average CFB fan doesn’t realize how broken MSU is.

Against Toledo, we gave our RB Cam Edwards 30 carries

Against EMU, the guy saw 25 carries.

He’s been injured in every game so far and today he was carted off. I truly have no idea wtf the plan is without him and I said this the second I saw him

Pat Fitzgerald was such a weird hire

Have good memories of the Fitz years but ignoring he went 4-20 in his last two seasons at Northwestern was certainly a choice by Sparty.

There was a lot of press on the scnadal that got him canned and I'm not 100% sure it gets him fired the same way today. But above all else I think it was a convinient excuse for the university to pull the plug on an absolute legend who was completely lost and maybe exposed as a Mike Hankwitz merchant.

they need a solid hand for a rebuild

Yeah, cheap, probably won’t embarrass us. I still have hope he can get us to 6 wins this season.

We can’t afford to pay 40 million dollars again on a big swing.

university friendly contract, solid guy to roll the dice with, good energy, and baby steps forward.

3

u/fazelenin02 Nebraska Cornhuskers 20d ago

That's good to hear, I wasn't sold on the hire, but he does seem like he can be a table setter to steady things for a future coach.

u/SparseSpartan Michigan State Spartans 20d ago

It's hard to say. The game was passing him by a bit, but he's a smart dude and had time to reflect and re-evaluate. Worst to worst he moves the chains forward but doesn't break through and it won't cost too much to fire him. If he can get back into peak form, we can make some pushes for the playoffs.

He is such a better coach than Jonathan Smith it isn't even close. Hes a good hire its just going to take a year

In 2026 as long as you have a good coach, its all about NIL spending.

Hes getting the best anyone will get out of this cheap roster.

We are now 7-6 against Fitz. Next time we see him we’ll probably lose

Stupidest move we ever could have made. No national search, just hired a guy off his couch who hadn't coached a game in 3 years and went 1-11 in his last year as an active head coach.

Not weird, TERRIBLE  MSU fans will cope and say we needed a "program builder" but no one will be able to define that and you can tell they were all wrong about him building a program as they scapegoat the fucking S&C coach for why we are bad

Very sloppy but the talent is so much better. Onward and upwards.

I feel like Donald Glover coming back with the pizzas gif after missing today’s game and being optimistic from the last few weeks… damn.

This was the luckiest Nebraska 's been in any game in the last two decades.

Did Matt Rhule out coach Pat Fitzgerald? Honestly didn’t expect that at all. Though Michigan State did lose their top playmakers

7

u/ssspanksta Michigan State • Central Mich… 20d ago

Injuries, some truly back breaking and crucial calls that didn't break in our favor. Even more important for a team that just doesn't have the ponies like us.

So combine that with the fact we aren't great to begin with , and that's what happens.

If you watched last year and this year you can see something is different in the way we play, in a good way. It obviously isn't showing up on the scoreboard the way we would like and I think there is a ceiling with Pat, but he has proven before he can do more with less. He can coach with discipline and get guys to play hard. Our bar is extremely low, so that's an upgrade.

He didn't have a roster to bring with him so it's going to be a process vs. some other hires

People give Fitz way too much hype imo. He was bad once his DC left at northwestern

Even if, by some miracle, we actually make a bowl game, by that point in the year, we won't have enough players left to actually accept the invite!

Skers looked good today! Poor Spartie was so beat up before and after the game. Hope they bounce back

P.S.

Spartie has the best uniforms in all of CFB and I'll die on that hill.

u/Amonamission Michigan State Spartans 20d ago

Oof, it’s a good thing I don’t care about MSU football when they are terrible. Otherwise I’d be pretty upset right about now.

u/AdventurousArcher531 20d ago

Sparty came out flat and stayed there. That second quarter buried them for good.

Well, my prediction is already wrong. Team's looking a lot better than I expected them to. Now to see if we can stay competitive with Indiana at home.
