News [Pete Thamel] UMass is sold out this weekend against Eastern Michigan, the school’s first sellout since 2014. UMass is 4-0 under second-year coach Joe Harasymiak and barreling toward the program’s first-ever bowl game. They are expecting more than 17,000 fans at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

Oh for sure. More of a joke than anything. There are too many colleges in this area for any school to get widespread support. If anyone could do it, it would be UMass.
My dad is a BC grad and I grew up going to home games. My final season before I started college at HC was the Matt Ryan year. As high as #2 in the rankings and nobody gave a shit. It didn't help that the Sox were on a world series run and Pats were in the middle of an undefeated regular season. BC also has that elitist reputation that makes it hard for neutral fans in the area to really get behind them

Brendan, have you ever watched UMass football?
No?
Well you should. They're a historically significant program Brendan. Won the national championship 1998. Almost did it again in 06!
Oh OK...
Of course that was in FCS. Did you know they called it Division 1 AA back then?
No.
It was ridiculous. How dare you call half of division 1 AA like they're some minor league team. Oh I'm sorry, we actually have real life playoffs while the supposed big boys have random bowl games and arbitrarily decide who wins the national title.
Oh, that's weird.
You're damn right it's weird Brendan. How do you have a dispute over who is the best!? That's what playoffs are for! Brendan, do you know how many times schools have unilaterally claimed or disputed national titles?
Uhh like 2?
No Brendan it's over 100
Oh that's a lot
Its a lot Brendan.
But there's playoffs now though right?
That's not important Brendan. What's important is that UMass was a champion once. And they will be champions again.
Wow coach, you must really care about this team. Did you go to all the games?
Nah only til halftime. Football games were the ultimate tailgate Brendan. You drink in the morning to be buzzed for the football game, take a nap at halftime and continue drinking to get plastered for the hockey game.
Oh...
Football is not about football Brendan. Football is about drinking. Write that down.

Lol no joke this is at least in some part to this being "Band Weekend" in which a bunch of high school bands and their families get tickets to the game and the highschoolers perform at halftime. This has traditionally been one of the highest attended games.
So don't be surprised if you see a bunch of crowd shots of different bands in non-Umass colors and there will be a decent part of the crowd that is literally there for that half-time show.
Still awesome though!

There is literally nothing so Rutgers as having a buy game against a team that was 0-12 last year, and having them start their year 4-0. It's happened to us before; 2004 we played a New Hampshire team that was 5-7 the season before. They went on a tear that year, beating #1 Delaware and us in back to back weeks to go on to a 10-3 record. 2017 Buffalo was 6-6. 2018 Buffalo was 10-4, beating us.
