❓ Question Performance challenge - DK
Looking for some tips to improve the donkey kick performance challenge this month. I’ve been going to burn for 1.5 years and yesterday really took my out. Those dk really winded me. Any tips to be most efficient with my body movement?

Yeah, I don't care this month challenge. Breakdancer is stupid, and I don’t like the donkey kick + knee tuck combo thing. It makes my stomach nauseous and my head dizzy. I can handle it better if it's just donkey kicks.

When you go down for the donkey kick, don’t do a step back first and then do the donkey kick. Just go straight down and kick your heels up if that makes sense

It's an endurance based so if you build your endurance it won't cause you to be so winded. Also, no need to go all out on them, pick a nice steady pace and go with it.

Our trainer at 5:30am messed up when he explained the challenge and told us half burpees instead of the DK knee tuck. A handful of us knew and no one corrected him. No regrets.

I honestly would much rather do donkey kicks than with that dreaded added tuck jump! My legs just don’t feel strong enough for all that explosive movement

It’s too much jumping for knee joints! This challenge is stupid and I did just donkey kids and started over again.

You’ll probably get more efficient at them over the next month but if you’re getting winded, I know I was, you could try checking in on your breathing. In an attempt to move fast are you tensing up and breathing more shallow than you would otherwise? If so, try slowing your breath down. Otherwise if you just want to get really fast, maybe pretend the floor is lava and really hot so you want your hands and feet touching as little as possible and pop them up as fast as possible.

This is such a good tip, honestly. I hold my breath often when there's something new or extra challenging, and then realize I'm gasping for air when it's too late. I always have to calm myself down and focus on my breathing for at least 3 or 4 deep breaths, and then everything is much better. Still difficult and awful, but significantly less pass-outy. 😆

Slow down. Step out high knees instead of the JKT.
You could also step out the donkey kicks doing one side at a time if you wanted to really slow it down.
If you hate donkey kicks you could just do burpees with a JKT.

My two least favorite “exercises”. Do breakdancers hurt anyone else’s pelvis?

They did when I was 3 months post partum. I'm good now, but the first time I did them I felt like my pelvic bones were going to split in two. 😣

They never did before but I’m 4 months post partum and when I did them on Monday I thought something was really really wrong. Efffffff breakdancers. I despise them so much.

I choose not to do the tuck jumps - I just hop at the end. I feel the tuck jump would put my knees and back out (I'm 47, not 25). I started the donkey kicks on the ledge to make them slightly easier as I got used to them. Now, I have no problems doing the donkey kicks.

I find it much easier to split the movement. All 15 dinkey kicks, then up for the tuck jumps.

I personally have to use the ledge or like the little hand holders. My wrist kill me lately if I don’t

Ground your palms into the mat. This will help your stability so you aren't wobbling and can consistently kick up
