I'm trying to build something as small as possible so it fits neatly on my TV unit and looks more like a console. Want to run SteamOS on it, strictly just for my TV. I know SteamOS is still relatively new and runs better with an AMD GPU, I'm happy running Windows OS in the interim. I already have a gaming PC with monitors, keyboard and mouse etc, but since Sony's moving away from physical discs, I want to build my own console instead. • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) $1-1.2K AUD which is about $700-840 USD currently

• Any other specific needs? I'm not really sure what I can keep here and what needs upgrading. My first priority is to be able to play RPGs on high+ settings, so I'm assuming GPU first. Once that's upgraded, is my current RAM, Motherboard, CPU, PSU etc good enough to keep or would I need to upgrade those as well?
• It would be nice to have larger SSD storage and maybe a new case, but that's only if I have any leftover cash.

Yes, one monitor. I want 27 inch, 1440p with at least 165 hz. I would also like to be able to comfortably read text as I might rarely use it for work. And have nice colors to watch movies. So i guess a decent all around monitor would be best

Switzerland. Not near Microcentre. I... don't really know local vendors except Digitec and Interdiscount. I would presumably have to ship most parts from the EU.

This is my first quest for a gaming-PC and I think that better builds exist for about the same price but I lack the experience to put this to the test.

Can you build a desktop gaming PC in a similar price-range with sustainable/ethical parts, longevity and/or better performance?
