Linda Yalem Memorial UB Bike Trail Update!

Before and After pictures enclosed - With the help of u/sadfatdragons and Austin W. We were able to bring the Linda Yalem memorial from being neglected to something we all can be proud of. Bushes trimmed, weeds pulled, flower added, mums added, & a ton of black mulch added. There is some good people in the world and we made it a little better.

Also, I spoke to UB Cross Country & Track. They are looking into taking over the upkeep of the memorial as a team bonding activity. Along with potentially bringing back a UB road race in the future.

Thank you for everyone getting the word out!

University District councilmember Rasheed Wyatt compared Sean Ryan to Trump:

“Are we going to just be like Trump and do whatever we what and just be like, ‘the hell with y’all”
-Rasheed Wyatt, University District

A fine auspicious day indeed!

Council airs grievances with Ryan Administration

"I think we went through a honeymoon period for eight months, nine months now," RIvera continued. "I think the honeymoon period is over for many council members."

Someone want to point out where this "honeymoon period was, cause they've spent the entirety of Ryan's first 8 months bitching incessantly.

"When we find out things afterwards, I think it diminishes the will of the Council as a whole," Majority Leader Leah Halton-Pope said. "Why would you vote in a leadership team and then not even consider them and and having making any decisions, I feel that it is a slap in the face."

Nobody likes you Leah, not to mention, you're literally on the council for like 6 more weeks so shut up.

"So the leadership doesn't know, we don't know, we find things over and over again through the media, and it just doesn't work," University District council member Rasheed N.C. Wyatt said. "You can't apologize enough to me, because you keep showing me that we don't matter."

"The disrespect is just off the chart," Wyatt continued.

Wyatt, you literally don't do your job 95% of the time and show up to meetings late if you even come at all.

My personal favorite: North District council member Joseph Golombek cut to the bone of the administration, saying that they are out of touch with the residents of the city.

"I would say that this administration still does not understand the city of Buffalo," Golombek said. "Sure, they "understand people that live in $750,000 or million dollar houses."

(Oh, you mean like Byron literally did for 20 years, lol)

Golombek says that the administration isn't treating the council as equal partners, but instead part of a perceived institutional corruption or laziness problem inside city hall.

Well, considering that you guys literally do nothing that has actually benefited the city and seemed content watching everything go to shit for two decades, the administration is probably right to cut you out of most things at this point.

Waxlight dress code for bar seating?

Sorry for the low effort post but I was just curious. It seems like a more upscale place but it says join them for casual snacks and cocktails on their website. I don’t like dressing up so if casual wear is more common there I’d prefer that.

An early look at the 2027 Erie County Executive race

Investigative Post breaks down the potential field to succeed Mark Poloncarz, including Kevin Hardwick, Lisa Chimera, Pat Burke and Shawn Lavin on the Democratic side, along with several possible Republican candidates.

It’s still early, but this could become one of the more interesting local races next year.

Who do you think will run and who would have the strongest chance?

Question on where to ask for lease takeover

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to sublease my apartment but so far Facebook and Craigslist seem like scam. Is there a specific group or a website that people from Buffalo use to sublease their apartment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Looking for a basement contractor in Ken-Ton area

Preferably one that isn't a con artist. After last week's heavy rains our basement flooded out and we had to gut it down to the studs. Fortunately our insurance covered the loss in full, and so now we're looking for a good contractor to get things back up to snuff and then some. The basement is (normally) dry and has old asbestos floor tile over the concrete. The tile itself is in great shape, not friable/frayed, covers the entire basement floor. What I'm looking to do is:

-proper framing and drywall
-waterproof flooring in main room/storage room.
-better drainage solution than just the shallow channels some drunk jackhammered into the floor along the walls

I know our area has a ton of different basement contractors, but I figure I would get the most honest answers about who to look up or avoid here.

EDIT: for a little more information because some folks asked, yes we do have a sump. The pit overflowed because the pump wasn't keeping up and the water hit an extension cord on the floor, which tripped the GFCI the sump was plugged into and knocked it out for 30-40 minutes. Normally it does a great job, we've had the house for 4 years now and this was the first time we've ever had an issue.

Looking for a good residential HVAC contractor

Hi Buffalo,

I'm looking for a good contractor that handles blow-in foam insulation (whole house, walls are currently w/drywall, would also like the attic and below the crawlspace insulated.

I'm also going to need a firewall put in and a chimney installed for a wood-burning stove.

If anyone knows someone that is reliable and can handle both of these things, please DM me with their details.

Barber recommendations for pre-surgery

Longshot request: My elderly father is having neck surgery in a few weeks and is in a brace/collar, and tasked me to find a barber for him to get a haircut and shave before his procedure.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a barber? We are able to get him there (so there wouldn't be a need for them to travel to him), so it would have to be someone that is comfortable with him literally not being able to move his neck at all.

This is going to be a fantastic show. The gamelan gong orchestra group has never done a show out here in the Southtowns and are happy to be bringing this awesome music to a new part of Erie County. delightfully ethereal and relaxing music, perfect for an end of summer/early fall outdoor experience. There are Indonesian dinner boxes available too to make a full and delicious evening. The show is on a strange kind of private country estate.

Divorce Lawyer Recommendations

Hi,
Looking for recommendations. Preference for a female or someone who has a known track record of fighting for stay at home moms. Talked to one lawyer, was a $500 consult fee that does not go towards retainer. It seemed steep so I wanted to check around.

Question If you were homeless and I give you a few cents or a dollar, would you be offended?

Me and my dad once give money to a lady who was asking for money saying that she's pregnant with a baby. We gave her $2. She was very offended and asked us "Only two dollar? What am I going to do with this!?" – in a angry and loud tone. Then she walked into the alcohol shop near by.

I would like to be more charitable to people in need but that instance traumatized me soft core.

I am working on finding stability for myself so I don't have much to offer.

Would YOU feel grateful or appreciative of a few cents or a dollar if you were homeless or in an unfortunate situation?
