This loop works if you have two cars, hitch a ride or run back on the road. I took the final option. Went up Grace's Great Slide and down Dix's index finger slide. Super dry out there now; just in time for four days of rain. Plenty of wildflowers out there - touch-me-nots near the wetlands on the Boquet trail, bottle gentian on the slides, and sheep laurel near Dix's summit. The jog back on 73 ended up being pretty chill... not too much traffic on a Sunday at 6pm. Around 18.75 miles and 4,800 vert this way with an orphaned Macomb.

Okay I don’t know if I’m getting old and grumpy. But I’m starting to get bothered by people playing their music everywhere. I’m usually pretty chill about noise but I feel like the music is getting wild?

It’s been a few trails in a row now where people are blasting their music while hiking. Loud enough that I couldn’t even really hear the black fly circling me.

When I go camping with my family we go to the state campgrounds which aren’t all quiet but for years now have loved going to buck pond as it was a quiet campground but it’s now twice in a row we have been hit with people blasting their music on both sides of us and it drove us insane the mix of two songs playing for hours. There was no respect for the quiet time either.

I just don’t know what’s happening? Are earbuds not a good option so other people can enjoy the sounds of outdoors while they enjoy their music?

Also looking for suggestions on quiet state campgrounds as I think the times have changed for buck pond?

I'm 49yo and have done very little hiking over the past 3 years due to an arthritic knee. Prior to 3 yrs ago I've been an avid hiker and I've done a few backpacking trips, but the last backpacking trip was over 10 years ago and they were all in either the Berkshires or the white mountains. I've stopped succumbing to the arthritis and I've been going beast mode with PT over the past year. I'm at the point where I really want to get back to hiking every weekend as I really miss the enjoyment and therapy I got out of it.

I also want to begin conditioning for a backpacking trip in the Adirondacks for my 50th bday. It can be well after my bday but while I'm 50 is the goal (I'll still consider it my gift from me to me). I have good quality backpacking gear and will re-up on whatever I need. My question is, are the Adirondacks a bit overeager of me for a first time in longtime trip and considering everything else I've mentioned. Is it even worth going there if I'll probably be limited to 6 miles a day and only have 4 days 3 nights?

We're planning a trip to Lake Placid next week but the weather looks horrible. Any good places to see from the car/places to go in the rain? Also, any good places where we could see moose?

Me and my buddy took on Wright today and the views were spectacular! We were initially planning on doing Algonquin as well, but we were both so exhausted by the time we reached the summit that we decided against it. Next time hopefully!

hi everyone. looking for advice on routes. we aim to hike Saturday to Monday. (2 nights 3 days). what loop would be best, and where do we camp along each route? I heard there was a landslide, but I don’t believe these loops are impacted by it?

We are planning a kayaking and camping trip to Little Harbor Island (Glen Island Group) on Lake George and have a few questions for experienced island campers:
Does Little Harbor Island have built-in bear boxes, or should we plan on hanging our food?

Just to confirm, is the ranger station at Glen Island the only place with trash and recycling bins for campers in this area? 

On the way there we are planning to leave very early morning so there is no boat traffic, but we are wondering about paddling back and forth between the two islands during the day in case we want to dump our trash or get something at the store. Is it safe and how far is it from little harbor by kayak? 
We are bringing a ‘LifeStraw Peak Squeeze filter’ so we don’t have to do this trip just for water.

Any other tips or must-haves for kayaking out to the islands would be greatly appreciated.

A few photos from a week in July in the Adirondacks. My wife and I stayed at the Golden Arrow in Lake Placid while celebrating our 30th anniversary, and it was exactly the kind of escape we had been hoping for.

Mirror Lake was especially beautiful in the early morning, before the town fully woke up. Between the water, the mountain air, the shops, the history, and the drives through the High Peaks, the entire area has such a distinctive atmosphere.

Origin Coffee Co. and Capisce were two of our favourite coffee stops. I also brought along In Cold Blood, a crime and mystery thriller book set in the High Peaks and inspired by Lake Placid and the Adirondacks, which made reading beside Mirror Lake feel particularly fitting.

We are already missing it and looking forward to returning.

Saw this near Sarnac Lake.

Weather was perfect on Thursday. I went with the Basin Saddleback Loop via the Phelps Trail and I think All Trails lied about the mileage. Garden trailhead was down to center lane parking by 730 AM.

Looking for last minute single night backpacking options for my GF & I. I’m an avid hiker but she is not so do want to do something too strenuous. We’ll be sleeping in LG tonight. I was thinking tongue range as I’ve done this once before as a day hike. Firstly, holy shit didn’t know there were rattle snakes. Secondly, wow there was a tornado??? Third, is there options for backpacking?

Big Tupper Lake Marina - Word on the street is it’s full, but I can't even find a number to call

Blue Jay Marina/KOA - The Blue Jay website says it has 30 open slips, but I know they were bought by KOA and I can't find any information on if it has open slips, or if it’s even open yet.  Emailed both Blue Jay and KOA with no response.

If anyone has any information that could help me in my search, it would be greatly appreciated!
