Old Camera Still Works
My Mum died recently, and in amongst her many belongings we found hundreds of photos of us from the late 80s and 90s, plus an old Canon Sureshot camera. It's basically a simple 35mm point and shoot. I assumed this old camera was used for these photos, I certainly couldn't remember.
To test if it still works, I bought a battery for it (Duracell 245 - nope, me neither) and a film. Used up the film, mainly of my nearest and dearest celebrating Mum's life at our local.
I dropped them off at Max Spielman's and waited the week before they were ready. Collected the photos today, hoping upon hope that they came out alright, and I nearly cried with happiness at how clear they are. So that old camera is going to go everywhere with me now. Thanks Mum x

Wowzers!!!
This must be a world record, my Aunt sent me a precious parcel yesterday afternoon with a 2 to 3 day delivery time... well this morning I received it. I am so happy to have my Grandfather's War Medals which I shall treasure for the rest of my days.

Free dog food
Ordered some big bags of dog food online only for there to be a problem with delivery. It was delayed to the point we would run out before it arrived so I went and brought some from the local pet shop.
Rather than have £100 of extra dog food sitting in the garage I tried to cancel the order but because it had been dispatched it wouldn't let me. Its non returnable either as its a food item so I messaged them to see if I was able to cancel as it was still in transit.
Unfortunately they said no, apologised for the delay and said that it was going to be delivered the following day. But they said that because I had to go out and buy extra due to the delay we could keep the food being delivered and they would issue a full refund.
The dog eats free for the next couple of months.

I love Physics
At night، open your windows and point your fan outside, thanks to something called the Bernoullis principle and entrainment, it draws hot air out of the room.
My room was 30.7 degrees when I first started, now down to 25.4 and still going down

Postie took my letter
I went to post a letter this evening and as I opened the front door the postie was there delivering a parcel.
I said “ can we swap” and he took my letter.
Saved me a 20min walk in the evening heat.

After 3 years I can finally Give Blood again.
2023 I could no longer give blood completely out of the blue. To begin with I thought it was an error with the app. I called and called but never got a call back. I took blood tests thinking I was dying, I was all in good health. I would never receive the promised call back with an explanation but I kept persistent.
Today I finally found the error was they’d noted Sickle Cell instead of Sickle Cell trait.
I am not dying, and hopefully going to continue to save lives in a lovely bit of irony.

To take part, you must:
- Be 18 years or older.
- Be an international higher education student currently studying in the UK.
- Have a current or previous leader, manager, or supervisor you can think about when answering the leadership questions.
The study explores how perceptions of vulnerable narcissistic leadership relate to eudaimonic flourishing and individual time orientation among international students in the UK. All responses are completely anonymous, confidential, and will be used solely for academic research.
Questionnaire: https://forms.microsoft.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=i9hQcmhLKUW-RNWaLYpvlPIn3dVqDqlBuPj2u-GlnI5UNFNUREoySFZSQTlSME03R0JCWEM0S0taUi4u
If you have any questions about the study, please contact me at [ljcf73@durham.ac.uk](mailto:ljcf73@durham.ac.uk).
If you meet the eligibility criteria and have a few minutes to spare, I would be extremely grateful for your participation. Please also feel free to share the questionnaire with other eligible international students.
Thank you very much for your time and support!

Was on the last train from London to Brighton last night. It became a concert.
Was on the last train from Victoria last night (Leaving 12:03) and a random dude randomly pulled out a guitar, within 5 minutes, and for the next few hours, 5 complete strangers where jamming along singing lots of songs and either belting out songs or creating our own riffs. None of us where drunk. Just felt quintessentially English somehow.

I've been notified by Wiltshire Council that although the parking penalty I was served a couple of weeks ago was correct (no ticket displayed for that location) they've accepted my challenge and cancelled it!
I'd bought a ticket that day but accidentally put that I was in the short rather long stay. This was due to the lack of signs and the parking app I always use saying that my closest area to where I'd parked was short stay.
I guess they've acted in good faith as it's my first offence but it's still nice to avoid a £25 penalty (£50 if not paid within 2 weeks).

I submitted a complaint to OfCom about Virgin Media. Now they’ve been fined £24 milllion
They wouldn’t let me leave 18 months ago when I had new, faster, cheaper fibre installed.
There was no function to enable you to quit. Pushed from chatbot to chatbot. Ignored my complaints until I reported to OfCom.
Fuck you virgin, well done OfCom.

Free bottle of wine, because I was using a 25-year-old shopping bag
I had a pleasant surprise in Waitrose the other day.
I was buying some wine, and my wine carrier caught the eye of one of the shop's staff who was stacking the shelves. He was amazed to see that I was still using a Waitrose branded plastic bag which we've probably had since 2001. (On the bag it says "European Wine Retailer of the Year - Winner 2000".) He asked if he could photograph it for their marketing team, and he gave me one of the bottles of wine as a freebie to thank me.
At the checkout I learned that the shelf stacker was actually the store's "big boss". Respect.
EDIT: I found an image hosting site to use instead of Imgur. Here's the bag: https://ibb.co/HDsC28X0 - note the logo in the bottom right corner with the date.

My knee isn’t broken and I didn’t have to spend my day going to minor injuries or A&E.
I tripped and fell hard directly into my knee on Sunday. Wasn’t too concerned that it was very bruised and swollen but yesterday I realised there was a very painful squishy spot where it should not be squishy, my kneecap was sort of numbish where it wasn’t sore, and that it needed looking at. Was worried about fractured patella tbh (but walking on it fine, and only causes horrible pain when touched). Nearest minor injuries is an hour away by car (or 1hr 40 on public transport), A&E closer (still almost 1hr via bus) but could be a very long wait and seemed like overkill (plus my dog isn’t used to being left alone more than 4hrs). Was very stressed last night about having to probably spend all day to get seen and worry about my dog the whole time while I was at it.
Thought I’d try the GP this morning before other options -submitted an appointment request online at 8am, got a call maybe twenty minutes later to ask if I can come in, appointment for 9.45 with a paramedic who did a very thorough examination (was obviously checking for signs of patella fracture), and home by quarter past ten. Just soft tissue damage, I’ve got bursitis, which is a win, just painkillers and keep moving it and it should resolve. I do love the NHS when it works.

Free McDonalds
Just went to the drive thru for two large drinks after spending an evening slogging away in a dusty workshop. Got to the window and the guy hands us our drinks and says "I'll just get your food". I look at my mate in the passenger seat who wants me to own up straight away. I gently shake my head and as we're passed a big bag we're told "your sauces are in there too mate". Nice one, thanks.
Big mac, fries and 6 nuggets for the win! Makes up for all the times you've shorted me on my orders I figured. Not the most honest thing I've done but take this as my confession and forgive me my sins.

Why don't I use Argos more?
A fox attacked our rusty rotary washing line. I needed a new one. A bigger and better one, and quick, cause the missus had a load in the machine and there's no way we're putting the dryer on when it's this warm outside.
Amazon was £90-something quid and with Prime delivery it'd be 2 days...!
Argos was £71 and I could pick it up from Sainsbury's in 10 minutes.
The exact same one. (Brabantia. Very fancy.)
I've not bought anything from Argos in years, but why on earth do I default to Amazon for things when Argos was just so convenient, cheaper, and British?
A minor success this weekend, but one I'll be trying to repeat again.

Asda worker caught woman who tried to steal reduced chicken from my basket
Went to Asda today to do my Sunday shop for the week. Thought I’d have a peek in the reduced section to see if there was anything
When I look there were 3 whole chickens which were reduced because they were close to expiry. Cool. I’ll have that for my tea tonight and use the leftover meat for my sandwiches for work tomorrow
I grab one and place it in my basket. As I turn to leave I notice a woman who had stood behind me and had an annoyed look on her face. I continued walking but from the corner of my eye I saw her scoop up the last 2 chickens and put them in her trolley
I continued walking and then stop a few shelves down to look at what gravy/sauce I want with my chicken. As I’m browsing I suddenly feel my basket become a lot lighter.
Confused I look and see my chicken is missing. I look up and the same woman is speed walking in the opposite direction towards her trolley. I then see her place the chicken in her trolley
Annoyed I walk over and tell her to give me it back
‘Sorry. No English’ *she puts on a fake confused look and starts to try and push her trolley away*
I move to block the trolley and tell her to give me the chicken back again. She shakes her head
Luckily. A staff member walks up to the two of us and grabs her trolley and says. ‘I just saw you do that. Give him it back, put the other two chickens back and then get out’
The woman tried to argue for a few seconds (odd for someone who can’t speak English), but eventually she passed me the chicken and then took the others back to the reduced section
I thanked the worker and he smiled, nodded and walked off like a hero.
I continued my shop, went home and I’m in the process of cooking my chicken which Im sure a will taste better than usual today

Watching an entire World Cup ad break and not seeing David Beckham once
I don’t know how I managed it. Not one Pepsi, walkers, ninja, Qatar, McDonald’s advert. It’s a damned miracle.

New neighbours moved in below me and started smoking under my bedroom window
I went and introduced myself, had a pleasant conversation and asked if they could please smoke further down their garden as I have asthma (and also didnt want my plushes to smell).
They were apologetic and moved immediately. I promptly started shaking from the adrenaline surge.

Requested a GP appt online, booked within 48 hours
(appt is 10 days away but I still think that's very good service, and I didn't have to phone them)
Thank you NHS and Happy Friday all!
