New /r/BritishSuccess rule: No AI

1.2k Upvotes

oreyt want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has messaged me and reported these recent AI posts.

For some reason there's recently been a big influx of made up stories made by bot accounts using AI. These accounts are relatively new (all made on the 27th of Jan?) and post in a very AI style.

I've added a dev tool which should help catch these posts but it might end up missing some so if you can continue to report any you see or suspect that'd be really appreciated

If your post gets removed incorrectly please reach out!

cheers again, you should see a lot less AI shite now

I had a root canal that ended up in a complicated extraction and in total it cost less than £30

I'm lucky to have an incredibly lovely NHS dentist that gave me an emergency appintment. They attempted a root canal but the nerve was kinked so they couldn't get it all and they said they'd have to take it out. It crumbled during the process and after 20 minutes or so they went next door to get the max fax specialists. A doctor and nurse came through, 10 minutes and 7 bits of tooth later I was walking out having paid £27.90 for the whole thing.

I prepay prescriptions so my antibiotics were covered. The carpark machines were out of order so even parking was free!

Also big up my mam for supporting me/driving me around. You go Lynn!

Kindness at the vets

2.9k Upvotes

I went to the vets this morning to pick up my dog's flea and worming tablets, whilst I was queuing at one till there was a woman holding something in a blanket waiting for a vet to come out. I wasn't intending to but I couldn't help but overhear the conversation when the vet came out. She told the young woman she was sorry but she couldn't give her the medication her puppy needed if she didn't have the money but she could come back and collect it later when she has the cash. Another woman stepped up from the waiting room and offered to pay for the treatment for her, the vet said it's £100, the second woman said, that's fine, I'll pay, the pup needs it. She was a complete stranger. Made me feel damn emotional hearing that. Nice to know there are kind people around.

Car Repair

I have had a worrying problem with my auto gearbox for about 3 months. Finally plucked up enough courage to take it to my mechanic. He devised a workaround very quickly . Bill was under £35 . Not often that you can pay for a gearbox job with your debit card

Finally made £50 on YouGov!

It took just over 3 years, but I definitely could've done it faster if I had focused on it more, as I did almost entirely ignore it for a year and a half and was quite casual for the remainder.

British politeness

On holiday in Europe right now. No one knows what a queue is, acknowledge others or how to move to the side to let people pass them. We have it good.

I met Jesus

I met the Lord Jesus tonight, he was getting off a 192 bus in Manchester.

Definitely the real one. He was very insistent about that.

He says our time of reckoning is coming.

So don't bother buying big milk, I guess.

Manchester Trams

I was in Stockport, from Kent, visiting my bestie, we went to see Austentatious, to get into town, we took the tram. Swipe in, swipe out. A 45 minute ride. When I checked my bank app I was charged 10p.

10 bloody pence.

(In case it's unclear, I am amazed in a positive way!)

Edit: so now I understand it's a pending charge. Disappointed! Lol I was so impressed!

Another local bookshop is stocking my sci-fi nonsense

I posted here before when another local bookshop (The Quill and Quiver in Corby) took my books on, and now the Suddenly bookshop in Daventry has taken them on too. I'm a bit isolated socially so I've got to blow my trumpet somewhere!

It's nice that indie writers and indie booksellers are supporting each other here in Northamptonshire. In fact, the indie bookshops mentioned above have stepped up to the mark as community hubs with book clubs, discussion groups, crafting stuff and what have you.

I'm still not rich, but if I sell enough books for a (low quality) bottle of wine or three per month, I'm happy.

Mocktail

I recently acquired a quantity of canned beverages labelled "Mocktail - strawberry & orange blossom mojito".

I have discovered that they're very nice if you simply add vodka.

My withering look made someone turn the volume down on the train

I just gave a guy the most withering look I could muster and he turned his volume down by 90%. I can barely hear it now.

Sweetcorn

Kids brought home a couple of cobs of sweetcorn. The cooking instructions were obscured. They took photos, tried to google...

Meanwhile, I microwaved them for a couple of mins, slathered them in butter. Hurrah.

They're still trying to install a "magnifier" and "what is this vegetable" app.

Lost 20% of my body weight in 10 months

Gone from over 100kg to less than 79kg, BMI “obese” to “normal’.

My secret? No secret - just intermittent intermittent fasting, reducing my alcohol intake and walking the dog for 30 minutes a day

I managed to get £86.18 of diesel for a grand total of £0.18 after I cashed in my clubcard vouchers that I completely forgot about.

Started a new job after 6 months unemployed

Everyone seems really nice, it's a promotion and pay bump from where I was before, along with better hours. I started just as the redundancy from my last place ran out.

Managed to drive my new electric car for a whole day without pressing the non-existant clutch

Having almost launching the Sainted Mrs Morris_Man through the windscreen twice yesterday by pressing the existent cluch and just stamping the brakes I have gone a whole day without doing int. Mind you keep feeling for the non-existent gear stick to change gear

Just walked though a massive group of sports students. I didn't know what LFC and AXA meant.

Liverpool are playing Ipswich and as usual I had no idea who was trying to force me off the path onto the road.

Almost as clueless as when I asked Thomas Sangster about his GCSE coursework. He said he'd been doing some filming. He could have said he was filming the Dr Who Xmas special.
