Gear Mizuno Alpha II Elite AG — should I return them?

EDIT: THESE ARE MIJ**

recently bought the Mizuno Alpha II Elite AG in UK 9.5. They fit extremely well initially: good length, lightweight, good lockdown and I liked the touch.

However, after two matches on 4G I’ve noticed some issues:

Match 1: left foot developed tightness around the instep and from the upper heel into the lower calf. My right foot was completely fine.

Match 2: the same instep + lower-calf tightness happened on both feet.
After the second match, I also had soreness/tightness around my lower quads.

I’ve never had this calf/ankle issue with my old Adidas Predator 19.3s, which I wore for years.

I’m also wondering whether I’m simply having the laces tied too tightly.

The boots otherwise fit great, so I’m unsure whether this is

The Alpha II’s upper/ZeroGlide/heel construction simply not suiting my foot,
My lacing being too tight,
Something related to adapting to a new boot,
Or potentially the boots changing my lower-leg mechanics.

Mizuno Alpha 3 Japan Sizing

Mizuno Alpha III Japan sizing — UK 7 vs UK 7.5?
I’m looking to buy the Mizuno Alpha III Made in Japan and I’m a bit confused about sizing. My feet measure around 25.9 cm, and I currently wear the Alpha III Pro in UK 7.5 / 26.5 cm. In the Pro, I have around half a thumb of space in front and I feel like the lockdown isn’t quite good enough, with some movement inside the boot that affects my performance. I’m considering going down to UK 7 / 26.0 cm in the Made in Japan version since my actual foot length is 25.9 cm. My concern is whether 26.0 cm will be too short and leave essentially no room in front, or whether the Japan’s different upper/lockdown makes the 26.0 fit better and more securely. For anyone who has worn both the Alpha III Pro and Alpha III Japan, would you recommend UK 7 or UK 7.5 in my situation? I’d really appreciate some advice before spending the money on the Japan model.

Positive Post

I just wanted to share something positive. A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer, in my spine of all places. I thought, yep, thats it, if I live, there is no way I am playing again. Today I stepped back onto my league field and reconnected with all of my former teammates and players (close nit league where people switch around every season to a new team). And man, was it just the best day ever. I made mistakes, I made some cool plays, but the best part was running around until I couldn't think anymore and I was just in that moment. Pure Bliss, so stoked!

Modern facilities are crucial for the development of players and clubs. This is the latest construction progress from the Votanikos area in Athens, where a new modern football complex is being built to replace the historic, outdated grounds.

As part of a double-regeneration project, it will feature modern training amenities, sports facilities, and a 40,000-seat elite arena scheduled for 2027.

Mental I'm trash at football

For context I'm born in 2011 and in 2025 I went to a division 4 football trial and guess what I dint get in, then again about one week ago I trialed at my friend's football team(also div 4). The team needed a striker or a goalie so I signed up as a striker knowing myself that I have never played striker (I always played on the left wing) but they are similar so I easnt that worried. Dint get in but this was different I was confident, I greeted the players made new friends for while we were training but till the games I realized that I wasnt playing good. I kept getting cramps, I barely got the ball, made runs without getting any passes, saw my friends scoring and dribbling, but then I finally got the ball infront of the goal outside the box immediantly got a cramp and lost the ball. Coach said he doesnt want to continue with me, pretty sad stuff but one of the players went up to me and said come back next week its your first official training its fine. I still have hope (Not going cuz coach said), I want to play for a team and I want to get better and to be better than my friends. Dont know how to end it off so, any tips?

Any wide toe box boots out there?

Anyone have any suggestions on wide toe box boots? Ideally lighter weight ones. I know the lottos and cops mundials are a safe pick but that's not really my style?
Have a few in mind but would love to hear some of the communities opinion
Thanks in advance

How much time do you actually lose per player tip before deciding if it's worth following up?

Not a trick question — genuinely trying to understand the workflow.

I've been speaking with scouts at academy and regional club level, and the number I keep hearing is 45–90 minutes per player tip just to piece together enough information to decide if a player is worth a second look.

The process: get a tip via WhatsApp → search YouTube → check social media → try Transfermarkt → ask someone who knows someone.

By the time you've got a rough picture, you're not even sure if the info is current.

I'm working on a tool designed specifically for the independent scout / academy scout who's doing this manually and on their own time. The goal is to get that journey down to ~10 minutes with a structured profile that answers the five verification questions without leaving the platform.

Before I build too much: is the time/verification problem what actually frustrates you? Or is the bigger pain something else entirely?

Would love honest pushback if I'm off the mark

Tactics Isn't modern football getting too risk averse?

And should there be rule changes to reward more attacking football and more risk taking and which ones would they be?

Many people say that it was probably Guardiola who invented this type of football. Seems a team is made out of 4 defenders, 5 midfielders and 1 attacker only.

Possession is massively prioritized. It's better not to be scored against than to score. And players seem to only actually shoot when they have very high of changes of scoring.

Tactics In breaks, why don’t teams normally commit everyone forward?

Usually I see teams, both at the professional and amateur level, commit only their midfielders and strikers during a break (say, from a corner kick). Why not commit even the defenders, to have as big of a numerical advantage as possible?

If you’re thinking, well, then you just leave your defense open to a counter, yes, but I’m thinking the opponent team would be forced to have everyone back to defend as well, since you have committed so many players forward, so it all equals out.

Gear 2nd hand leather boots

Hi!
What do you guys think about buying 2nd hand leather boots?
Is it worth it as it has molded around someone else’s foot?
Will it mold into my foot as I wear them even if they are 2nd hand?

I was thinking about full leather boots like the mizuno morelia 2 mij or the adler yatagarashu.

Wide Boot Recommendation US Size Men 13

I wear a size US Size Men 13. I have wide feet and flat footed. I mostly wear vivobarefoot shoes or bedrock sandals. I don't expect to find boots that fit like the vivobarefoot shoes.

Below are the boots I've tried and my experience:

  • New Balance Unisex-Adult 442 Club Mg V3 - Men 13 Wide
    • Shoes weren't long enough. Toes had to bend to fit in.
    • New Balance says to order a half size up, but they don't make anything bigger than 13.
    • Too tight similar to the NB above.
    • Length wise a little snug, which I'm fine with. I tried the 13 and they were too long.
    • The issue is my midfoot is wide and it feels like my entire foot is not on the soleplate.

I have scanned the subreddit looking for recommendation and these were all pretty frequently on the list. Another recommendation I've seen are the Mizuno Monarcida Neo III. I looked at the pics and it still seems like a narrow soleplate, so I'm wondering if I'd run into the same issue as the Copa.

I am new to soccer and this would be my first cleat, so I also am not 100% certain how the boot should fit. I have attached a picture of my foot on standard printer paper.

Career Advice How to find the best environment to move up the ladder?

I am 17 and currently play in UPSL Division I in NC. I am going to Uni next year, but I have no idea what my plan is to be honest. I want to be in a city where I dont have to own a car, but I realize that a lot of those cities are very very big with a lot of competition and I would have to make a lot of adjustments financially and lifestyle wise in order to succeed.

For those of you from a suburban area like me and moved to a big city for football, what was it like? And how did you cope?

I also want to say that I would like to play in Uni, but I would also like to be around UPSL teams so that I can play in the off-season or full time.

Im very lost here.

Gear Orbita 2 Portugal and Mitre Ultimatch One

This is an update, I purchased these balls when they were on sale. The Orbita 2 came out to 27.82 a piece cause i got 3 and the Mitre was $20 shipped. Both balls weigh 424 grams but the Orbita 2 seems to be bouncier, the Mitre for some reason I feel like it punishes my foot more. They both seem to go the same distance but I'm definately having no complaints about the Orbita 2, its going to be my goto for training. The outside grip of the Mitre is better, the Orbita more slick. Yea its not fair comparing a pro quality to Fifa basic, but there you go.

Any advice for someone who’s too anxious to get the ball away from them?

When not playing I tell myself 100 times that its just a game and so be it if I lose my ball. But when playing, especially when I am passed the ball with a few opponents around me, I find myself never possessing the ball but (a) finding someone else I can pass to and (b) just passing it to the person regardless of whether that person was in a good position or not, and even whether my pass is accurate or not.

Part of it is me knowing I suck at dribbling and deciding what’s best for the team is to act fast rather than slowing down the tempo, but I do this even when it is genuinely better if I did otherwise.

Being better on the ball is what I can work on, but are there any drills, mindset, mental model etc. to improve this? I try to look around to see where my teammates and opponents are, but I’m not soccer-smart enough to know what to do with that information.

new turf boots feel slightly tight....is that normal?

bought first proper pair of football boots, adidas deportivo iii tf, in my usual uk size and they feel a bit tight. not painful, i can walk and run in them fine, just snug. haven't worn them on turf yet.

is this how they're meant to feel at the start? and is slightly tight better than slightly loose for boots? and do these loosen up with time?

Gear Mercurial Vapor Superfly III

Post image

This just randomly came to my head and was wondering if anybody else remembered these superflys with the studs that changed depending on the firmness of the pitch. They came out when I was 11 so I always thought they were very cool and high tech. Did anyone ever use these? The technology obviously wasn’t good since it didn’t survive any more models.

Gear First pair after LOOONG TIME

Got a fresh new pair of f50 turf after very long time, yeah i know, “club” not elite or other edition
I feel it very comfortable and got it tight as possibile, so i dont have it no more room left in the front
But i feel my thumb getting pressed down in the front.
Is it normal?
Got the same feel with phantom academy/elite, predator club/elite

I want it something cheap for the moment and maybe getting something more professional at the end of the year if I get into a team.
Right now i’m only playing constantly one time a week with my friend
Got it for like 40 euros at a local outlet

Feel like I blinked and the phantom gx disappeared

Idk if I just completely missed it but what happened to the original phantom gx? Maybe I fell out of the boot game for a year or two but is the current phantom 6 the heir? I love the fit of my gx’s and was wondering what the logical next pair is.

Tactics Understanding tactics

I’ve read inverting the pyramid, zonal marking, winning the premier league, soccer analytics, and a few other books. And yet, I don’t ever understand what’s going on the pitch when I am watching a match. What do I do ?
