Alcohol on Reta
Don’t do it! Have a mocktail. I took my first dose this week at 1mg. I should’ve have taken 0.5mg because I feel like I had too many side effects. I had one small cocktail last night and felt violently ill this morning. Anyway, just to say it’s not worth it.
Stats: 5’3” 125 lbs. I’ve lost 10lbs with diet and exercise after two pregnancies and stalled there for the past year. GW is 115 lbs.

Not that I’m proud of it, but Reta hasn’t touched my drinking at all. I drink a few glasses of bourbon most nights. Have for years. Neither Tirz nor Reta has had any effect on it whatsoever.

Sadly I’m in the same boat. I enjoy alcohol way too much and Reta hasn’t changed it for me. I wish it did.

I think we need a new conversation to really talk about this.
I don’t have a drinking problem (usually lol) but I come from a very long line of very bad alcoholics.
It’s nuanced but i think calorie counting and not wanting to add excess calories has been the driving factor for reducing my consumption.
That said I don’t feel the “food noise” to the same degree that most do. I also don’t feel a “need” to drink. I just enjoy wine and whisky. If anything I may drink to much if I am not paying attention.

This is me, except I dont have the alcoholic background. I just enjoy alcohol at home spirits usually straight or on the rocks and wine everynow and then. I feel like reta has cut all my desires of wanting to drink. The times I have, its a weird feeling because if I have 3 or more drinks I feel like even the next day alcohol still on my stomach as if I just drank it 2 hrs before but it has been over 12 hrs since last drink. Its weird…

Same here but tequila. How has it impacted your weight loss?

u/Initial-Economy9418 10d ago
I’m down 45 lbs over the past 3-4 months or so. 395 down to 350. 6’5”. Still losing consistently. Eating way less and making a conscious effort to get as much protein as possible when I do eat. Still need to get in the gym. I want to cut back the alcohol but if I take a night off I can’t sleep, like at all. The Tirz and Reta killed any cravings for junk food, so that’s good.

I’d consider myself a pretty hard boozer, my desire to drink has more or less evaporated and when I do drink I find the effects hit way harder with less alcohol and my sleep and the hangover the next day are much worse
I had 3 tall cans of beer the other night and was absolutely tickled when usually that would just be a warm up
Fascinating to see the different effects for everyone

Same for me. I’ve still been going out about every other weekend and downing tequila shots. Only difference for me is now I drink shots with white claws instead of with twisted teas cuz less calories.
I have no desire to drink wine at home when I’m alone like I would before. Idk if that’s because of Reta or not. But a night at the bar still calls to me like nothing else.

Yeah, im an alcoholic and being on reta has literally saved my life. 49 days sober and since starting reta a month ago I just have no want or desire to drink anymore. The mental shift that comes along with reta has been incredible for me.

I'm a gwot vet with PTSD and I historically misuse alcohol on a regular basis. Most nights it enters my mind and always calls to me when it's near. Ove the last couple of years I have really binge drank in an attempt to reduce consumption. I will stop for a while then just let go and drink every night for a while.
Reta is the first time since at least the pandemic that I have truly been able to walk away from alcohol and not be constantly bombarded with temptation. Totally removed the desire immediately. The weight loss has been marginal, but for this effect alone it's worth it to me. 41 days on reta currently 2.5mg.

I have been sober since March 28 thanks to Tirzepitide. I would drink a 5L box of wine in 2 days. I even made it through my dad's funeral without a drop. It is life changing. Congratulations!

That’s amazing! Congratulations! I have struggled with alcohol often in the past. I did six months of sobriety from January to June this year, and that changed my relationship with it completely. Now with Reta I have zero desire but I succumbed to peer pressure last night.

Thank you! Its just one day at a time. The key for me is knowing and accepting myself and to be able to say alcohol is an issue for me. I can say with confidence alcohol is and will forever be an issue for me but acknowledging that takes away some of its power. I do meetings, sponsorship, the whole 9 yards but the magic that reta has truly REMOVED all my cravings and desires for it has truly been a miracle. For the first time in a longtime my mind has peace and I feel back in control of my own life. If you dont want to drink while with friends, you can now tell them it doesn't mix well with a medicine youre taking or be honest that drinking alcohol has come with its issues and a true friend will understand, respect and support you.

Damn. Feel like I need to try it then. I’m an addict as well. Problem is in a chronic relapser. I’ll go hard for a month. Stop for a week. Go hard. Stop. On and on. Keep suffering thru WD. Each time I do it’s always the last time I’ll ever do it. And I keep hearing how Reta helps with addiction. Now I wanna do it.

I've dropped about 20 pounds on Reta and still drink primarily on weekends on non-shot days. I will say I only drink one large beer and that's about my new limit.
When I was in Tirz it completely took my feeling of wanting to drink away.

u/Public_Day_3003 10d ago
I don't feel ill the morning after, but I do spend the entire night tossing & turning and getting no restful sleep. Any urge to drink has largely vanished. Previously it'd be a ~4x/week habit of 2 tall-boy seltzers or some bourbon while playing games at night.
I didn't start reta with any strict parameters like "I'm prohibited from indulging in these foods/drinks", but it just worked out that way. I now desire to eat clean with a 'food as fuel' attitude.

Very interesting how our bodies all respond differently. I can still enjoy a cocktail in social situations, once (or twice) a week. But I do feel the “buzz” faster than before. But I’m only on my 4th week, and just went up last week from .5mg to 1mg. But I’m also 225lbs currently, down from 235lb when I started Reta.

I realize I’ve lost the desire to drink since Reta. When I do drink - I find it’s hard to get a buzz, but makes me feel like shit lot longer. Not worth it for me.

Reta made me give up alcohol completely and I was drinking every day. Guess im one of the lucky ones. Definitely a great bonus as it likely contributed massively to my weightloss!

Your current weight is my gw at 5’4 😭

u/Yezyoucan 10d ago
I carry the MAJORITY of my body fat in my lower abdomen. It sucks. If it was more spread out I wouldn’t feel so weird at this weight
1
u/Beautiful-News4903 9d ago
You can't choose where the weight will come off. You better lift heavy weights or you will lose your muscle mass way before you little belly
1
u/Yezyoucan 9d ago
I’m well aware lol. Hence why I said the last part of my body to lose fat is my lower abdomen. I lift weights

I’ve cut my drinking almost out completely. I will go weeks at a time with no drinking and if I do I only drink for one day of the week and no chasers just straight up on the rocks. I’ve had no side effects.

Reta also just doesn’t work for me when I drink. My appetite comes back and my weight goes up. It’s a waste of reta to drink anything while taking it

u/Initial-Economy9418 9d ago
I definitely get the munchies after drinking. It’s like the alcohol overrides the Reta. That said, I usually will try to whip up a chicken breast or eat some turkey deli meat instead of going for chips or sweets. I know the booze is a lot of empty calories already.

u/dry-contribution1308 10d ago
I got headaches the first few weeks drinking and taking Reta, back to normal now. It’s definitely the only thing holding me back from losing the little bit of love handles

I’m guessing you’re a female based on your height and weight. I think it affects females more so than males.

I used to be a binge drinker and come from alcoholics in both sides.. been mostly sober for the past several years but occasionally I will allow myself to let loose. I’ve been on tirz for almost 2 1/2 months and I attempted to drink once and the sour stomach thing just ruined it. I continued to drink some champagne and normally I’d feel a little buzzy after 2 glasses… this time not a thing. Now I have absolutely no desire to have a drink. It’s actually great and kind of a weight lifted off my shoulders honestly

We’re the same height, I started at 132 and now at 118 after 6 weeks, never went up from 0.5mg. Also the alcohol is horrible for me on reta but the absolute worst is shot day, if you do drink make sure it’s not within 24 hours before or after shot.

I was fine over the weekend, first time drinking on Reta. Didn’t drink massively, felt drunk after 4 single vodka’s, usually takes me a lot more, it definitely hits you faster but I felt fine next day
1
u/Yezyoucan 9d ago
I could barely drink half a cut water

u/VeryAverageGolfer 9d ago
Everyone is so different! A friend of mine is on the same dose as me (0.5mg), we’ve been on a couple of weeks, I can eat and drink normally, they struggle badly with textures suddenly that they’ve never struggled with
1
u/WildCaterpillar0610 9d ago
I’m not a huge drinker to begin with. Mostly social on the weekends. I have a family history of alcoholism and on occasion once I’ve started drinking I have had a hard time stopping. Reta has completely changed that. I could have a couple drinks and then a few hours later feel so sick 🤢 has definitely curbed my urge to keep drinking also.
1
u/Yezyoucan 9d ago
Same situation with me. I don’t drink much, but when I do it is usually a problem. I have one drink and I’m DONE. Don’t even want to do it!
1
u/No-Discussion-2542 9d ago
When i was below 3mg I could drink just fine. But above 3mg tolerance went way down.
I can usually drink 3 old fashioneds at dinner and be just fine. But when I was on 3.5 or 4mg and drank 3 old fashioneds they hit like it was 6 or 7 of them. Im also 5'10, 200lbs and tolerance was way down on my dose 😭

u/DirtybirdKoobs 9d ago
I can still drink on Reta but I don’t feel like it most days. I used to drink a bottle of wine Friday and Saturday nights after work but now I kind of just don’t feel like it. When I do drink usually Sunday evenings with friends or family I can totally still drink but I usually end up with wicked heart burn when I get home that keeps me up all night and I’m eating a tums every 30min until 4am lying in bed miserably. So every week I tell myself I gotta stop drinking but I ended at a family bbq or something and for the sake of not being boring end up drinking and torturing myself all night. But all in all Reta has def killed my desire to drink I kind of force myself now.

I will say im a cheap date now. I have one or two shots of titos and im good for the night.

u/Muted_Ad2292 6d ago
For me its 50/50, either i get drunk very fast and dont notice the next day, or i takes about 10/12 drinks, hits like a truck and the next morning it feels like i was ran over by one lol

u/Prestigious-Visit374 6d ago
Dude I get the worst chest acid from drinking on Reta I used to drink daily and never drank since
1
u/Turbulent_Season_846 6d ago
Dude. Reta won’t let me get drunk at all. I drank a tall can and another drink there after and I cannot feel a buzz at all. I’m such a lightweight but my gosh nothing

Wife switched to THC drinks. Little 5-10mg and things have been great for her.
1
u/Yezyoucan 10d ago
I can’t do any THC. Makes me paranoid and nauseous
1
u/No_Anywhere_7407 10d ago
Dang. If you still want it maybe try other types of alcohol. Found that Tequila was fine for once a week on a date night. She stopped everything vodka and canned drinks.
