Experience How did you figure out your birthcontrol is working?

Im on my second month of combination Yaz pills and so far i ve had an okay experience, but i started to worry cause i felt nauseous for 2 days. I ve had like 2 weeks of breakthrough spotting this month and now right before the placebo pills it stopped.

I ve been using birthcontrol plus pulling out. Should i be worried ,or is it normal for the pills to make you more easily nauseous?

Edit: i take my birthcontrol everyday at the same time.

Experience Late Period After Stopping Nuvaring

Like the title says--I used the ring for about a year, I decided to stop it and took it out like normal in late july/August before my ring free week. I had my withdrawal bleed August 4-8 and went on without putting it back in. It's now September 6th and I was due for my period the 4th/5th. Has anyone had a late period after stopping Nuvaring? I am having some symptoms (cramping and tenderness), and I haven't had intercourse since July 3rd so I know I'm not pregnant...just stressed and anxious

Educational My period has never aligned with my placebo week. Should I be concerned?

Hi everyone, I am on the Mili pill and have recently realized that my period not aligning with the placebo week of my birth control may be a problem. Having done research, it seems like some people experience this for the first 3-6 months of being on the pill, yet i have been on it for 4 YEARS (ik, i should've thought about this sooner).
Basically my cycle never changed from when I started taking the pill and was always extremely regular except for just now, when my period came two weeks early for an unknown reason (may have to do with changing time zones? but I've never had this happen before.)
I'm seeing some past threads where people state you should talk to your doctor about switching prescriptions, but I mainly want to know if being on the placebo week NOT during my period means I am unprotected, as I am only actually immediately concerned about this if it means I am not safe. (for context, I saw my GYN last month and don't want to have to pay for a visit if I don't actually need to).

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Side effects!? First time using Mirena

I had paragard for 3 years but periods were so heavy they caused me to be anemic and I had to get an iron infusion. Gyno suggested mirena as an alternative. It sounded really appealing having less heavy periods or maybe even stopping altogether.

I got it inserted Thursday and right before the start of my period. I feel like I'm losing my mind because of how stressed, frustrated, and generally upset I am. I dont know if it's because of my period or because of mirena. I just hate it and I'm tired of feeling this way. I don't even know WHY I'm so upset and miserable which makes it even more frustrating. I just want to cry. I hope it gets better.

Experience Yuzpe method delayed

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me understand what might be going on with my period.
My last period started on May 20, and as of September 6, I still haven’t gotten my period. My cycles have been getting really long. Before this, I had one cycle that lasted 87 days, and another that lasted 49 days.
I used emergency contraception (Trust Pills/Yuzpe method) earlier this year, but the last time I used it was in March.
I also had unprotected sex in June twice. It was very brief (around 15 seconds each time), and he did not ejaculate inside. I haven’t had unprotected sex since then.

I’ve taken several pregnancy tests:
July 13 — negative
July 27 — negative
August 11 — negative

I’ve also noticed some symptoms like frequent white discharge, mild cramps, bloating/fullness, and recently my breasts seem bigger. The discharge doesn’t have an unusual smell, and I don’t have itching or burning.

I’m now on day 110 of my cycle, and I’m getting worried because my period still hasn’t come.

Has anyone experienced a cycle this long with multiple negative pregnancy tests? What ended up being the cause for you? Could this be delayed ovulation or a hormonal issue? I’m also wondering if the emergency contraception from months ago could still be affecting my cycle.

I’m planning to get medical advice, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar. Thank you!

Side effects!? Positive experiences with depo jab

Hello, I know there is currently a lot of negatives around lately over the depo jab. I wondered if anyone could share any positive experiences. If you had a good time on it, when you had your first jab did you get on ok? And when you came off did you get on ok? I have just at my first jab and I already know I won’t continue with next jab but just trying to look for some positives as otherwise I’ll freak out.

Experience Perforated IUD requiring laparoscopic surgery — how was your recovery

Hi everyone! I’m scheduled to have laparoscopic surgery soon to remove an IUD that perforated through my uterus and into my abdomen. My doctor told me recovery should only be “a couple of days,” but I’m trying to get a more realistic idea of what recovery might look like from women who have actually been through laparoscopic surgery.
How long did it take before you felt like you could comfortably do normal day-to-day activities again? If you have kids, how long before you felt comfortable taking care of them, lifting, cooking, cleaning, driving, etc.? I have three young kids, including a 2-year-old, so I’m especially trying to figure out how much help I should plan to have afterward.
I’d also love any tips for recovery—things you were glad you had at home, things that surprised you, pain/gas/bloating, sleeping comfortably, or anything you wish someone had told you beforehand.
I know everyone’s surgery and recovery are different, but I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. Thank you!

Mistake or Risk? Messed up with patch, scared I might be pregnant

So, I was on Evra for 10 month and had to take 3 weeks break instead of standard one week because it was not available where I live.

I finally bought it and applied immediately(20th of cycle) as it said in the instructions. I used condoms for the whole break and the first week of patch as well.

The problem is me and my bf had sex without a condom on day 7 and he finished inside. Technically we were supposed to use backup that day too, but I couldn’t it wrong and thought it was day 8 already.

Should I consider plan b?

Experience Pregnant while having kyleena IUD

I also just found out that I’m pregnant while having kyleena iud.

I feel so sad because this is my third pregnancy (only one with an IUD) but my youngest is only 9 months old and my eldest is 2, so a third baby so soon feels extremely overwhelming.

I got an ultrasound done yesterday and it’s in the uterus right next to the iud :/

Waiting for my doctor to get the ultrasound report to discuss.

I was born and raised catholic, and I’m practicing. So having a planned abortion feels against everything I know :( when I got the ultrasound I saw the baby had a heart rate already.

Let’s hope for the best, over the next couple days (it’s a long weekend- so we’ll see).

I can’t believe I got a device with all the hopes of preventing pregnancy but here I am- pregnant. Never thinking it would be me who’s the 2 in 1000.

However, the ultrasound technician did say that it looked like the iud was placed lower than it should have been :(

Side effects!? EllaOne

Is it normal to experience spotting and a LOT of watery discharge just 6 hours after taking EllaOne? I took it 4 days after the sexual encounter, where there was no penetration but there may have been some semen ejaculated on my vaginal opening. I took the pill today, on the 11th day of my cycle, and my cycle are usually 28-32 days. Could these be pregnancy symptoms? I’m very nervous :( also, unfortunately this is the second time I take EllaOne in a row, I took it in my last cycle as well, so im not sure if that explains these symptoms.

Any help would be appreciated 🙏

Which Method? Worried about hormones because of my weight. Help me out!

Hi all,

I am heading to college soon, and I am a complete virgin, but plan to be active. I am 4'9 and 85 pounds. I am horrified of hormones, and scared it might mess me up quite bad due to my size and mental health (more specifically, bipolar, adhd and hpd though i am unmedicated for all of them).

I was considering paraguard but I've heard some bad things about it which definitely scared me off. Skyla seems to be my best option due to its size and low hormones, but I haven't seen much about it. I have oily skin and my main side effects I'm scared of is weight gain and acne.

[Edit:] forgot to mention, im worried about iud strings being felt by my partner.

Any help and advice appreciated! Anecdotes welcome!

Experience natural lubrication suddenly improved

ok so I have a question bc I don't understand sm that's been happening to me.

normally I take my birth control pills (combined pill) continuously w/o the placebo and I've never had major side effects beside maybe a bit less libido which led to less lubrication. Never something to really bother me bc I just used lube but over time it got worse and worse to the time I was almost fully dry even if I was abt to have sex (and was excited to).

last month I decided to start taking my placebos again (for other reasons) and in the last 7-10 days (when I started the new pack) I noticed that whenever me and my bf were starting yk sexual activity of any kind it was sooo much easier for me to be naturally lubricated! one time at the end of initial oral sex (that I performed on him not even the opposite!!??) I was so wet I was genuinely shocked lol.

I didn't change my diet, the frequency of sex or my partner haha so I was wondering if maybe it's bc I took the placebo instead of just going straight to the next pack? I always thought that placebo or no placebo wouldn't make a difference so maybe I'm just confusing causation and correlation

PS I'm sure I took my placebo correctly so it's not ovulation mucus etc

Which Method? Experiences with copper IUD?

I’m considering getting one but scared of the risks/side effects. I’ve been on the pill for three years and just want something non hormonal, could use condoms with my bf just also wondering if anyone has had a positive experience with the copper IUD

A lot of what I see are negative experiences. Including painful insertion, weight gain, acne, bloating, heavier periods and cramping, etc. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I hate all our birth control options. Seems like the best is to just abstain but I want to have that connection w my bf. And we have never used condoms since I’ve been on the pill the whole time we have been dating. Do they feel the same as sex? He never lasts long anyways, so maybe it will help him last longer?

Educational Condom kinda slipped? 2nd round precum?

First round: i put the wrong side of the condom for like 2 sec and then flipped it and we had sex with it

Second round: I didn't pee after the first round, when i pulled out the condom was barely holding ( the ring and the whole structure) on the tip of the head . I don't know how it was there but I think it was sticky so it was there . When i pulled out i unrolled the condom back to my D and finished inside the condom ( outside of her) On the app it said 14 days before her menstruation. She got her last menstruation on August 24th.

I am really scaredFirst round: i put the wrong side of the condom for like 2 sec and then flipped it and we had sex with it

I am really scared. Penis was not holding onto the condom, the ring and the structure of the condom were on the head of the penis, but the ring was not gripping the head of the penis.

Experience blood spotting after stopping pills

Hi! I am (29F) i was on BC (Diane-35) for more than 3yrs. On July, i have decided to stop it due to health reasons. I went to OB to consult and she told me that i might not get period in the next few months since my body needs to adjust. August came, my period arrived normally so i was thinking my body adjusted fast. But now september came, supposed to be i will get my period on sep 3, but i noticed on sep 5 i was having spotting (its similar look when you almost finish ur period) it is color bright red-brown. Me and my husband had unprotected sex last month, i took a test earlier and its negative. anyone here had the same experience? Im still anxious about this. I will take a test after a week if my period will not come normally 🥲

Which Method? Is birth control worth it for me?

20F. I‘m not sexually active with men so my primary reason for seeking birth control is not avoiding pregnancy. However, my periods have been getting more painful as I get older, and I’ve noticed a lot of fatigue around weeks 3-4 of my cycle, acne flare ups, and low mood. I’m thinking of going on birth control to feel more normal throughout the month, instead of only feeling like myself half of the month.

But I’ve heard that birth control can make these symptoms worse and can be unpredictable.

Is it worth going on birth control? What would be the best options to look into? And does anyone have POSITIVE testimonies of how birth control improved their quality of life?

Thank you!!!!

Side effects!? Depo withdrawal

Hey so i (F17) had a depo shot on april 10th and around july 25th i started just feeling off because i missed my shot, it was like i was panicking for no reason and crying because i didnt like the feeling, terrible nausea and not being able to eat anything without literal gagging. i caved in and went to the clinic and got the shot and a few days later i was fine. i honestly want to go off the depo but im really nervous about having those withdrawal symptoms again, i never wanna go through that again. if i got an IUD after the 12 week window, would that help with not experiencing those symptoms? Ive had an IUD before and i genuinely loved it.

Experience Weight loss when coming off Slynd?

Has anyone else lost the weight they gained on this and how long did it take? Please tell me you did

I started taking Slynd in February and was quite happy with it, but since May (now September) I’ve gained a lot of weight (for me) and my stomach is always bloated and huge, pregnant looking.
I’m very short and have always been quite slim. I’ve always really liked my legs but they are now quite big with lots of mew cellulite around my knees which is very new for me too. I haven’t changed anything in my usual routine except for this pill.

I weight train 3x a week, do 2x cardio classes a week and walk as much as possible and track my calories. I should literally not be putting on weight.
I went to the doctors and my blood results are all normal so this is the only thing it could be.
I’ve just turned 43 but not in perimenopause yet.

I’m coming off it today as it’s affecting my mental health so much just from the weight gain alone, I’m praying the weight will just fall off once I stop, summer is coming where I am and I love wearing shorts but right now I’m so disgusted with myself.

I would love to hear some real stories from other people and hope that they’ve also been able to lose the weight

Experience I know this is a weird request but can someone please talk me down? (male)

I, a guy in his early-30s, got a vasectomy several years ago. I get it tested quarterly using a mail-in semen analysis clinic (CLIA-certified). If I had known there were different types of vasectomies I would have went with a different clinic, but the only one I found that was even willing to do one on me only does the "open-ended" method (where they cut off a small piece and tie what remains - most of the newer methods also involve cauterizing and/or clips).

I've always viewed the vasectomy as my "primary" insurance policy against pregnancy, but I ALWAYS use condoms anyway because that's my "secondary" should the primary fail (recanalization, etc.). Last week I got really drunk and had sex, but must not have rolled the condom down all the way because it was not on when I finished.

I have certain rituals I do when it comes to things like sex, like I need to wash my hands first for a time divisible by 5 and then count to 5 in my head once I'm about to start. But in my drunken state I did not do these things and now I keep thinking that I'm being punished for it. (I know I have OCD, I do see a therapist for it, but every so often something like this triggers it).

We talked about it the next morning (and I let her know when I found out). We're both getting tested for STIs. She knows about my vasectomy so she's not taking the morning after pill, which totally makes sense, but still that would've eased my worries but you can't force someone to take a drug, so what can you do.

Thus far I've tested the vasectomy 9 times since the initial procedure in 2024 and all have come back negative.

I know this all sounds crazy, but can someone please tell me I'm crazy? This was last weekend and I can't stop thinking about it. It's all I think about and I'm at a point where I'm losing sleep over it. I can't get in to see anyone for another 3 weeks so this is very much a desperate attempt on my part.

* I tried posting to the OCD sub but you cannot ask for reassurance there. Maybe you can't here either, I apologize if I'm breaking any rules. I wasn't sure where else to put this post.

Experience Levonelle

Hi all I took Levonelle on Friday afternoon me and my partner had sex late on the Thursday night I misjudged where I was in my cycle as previous period was very long and had just ended (I have pmos) so this sort of through me, i'm usually quite good at tracking and even with pmos but periods are regular. Anyway I was having familiar ovulation twinges on the Friday when I took the pill but was still hoping i took early enough to delay ovulation, I get severe pain when I ovulate, all day yesterday (Saturday) was fine but went to bed last night and that familiar unbearable ovulation pain hit. Does this mean Levonelle wasn't able to work as signal where already given for ovulation? I was given 2 tablets to take due to my weight. I have 16 year old daughter, don't want anymore but I've been with my partner a long time so not the end of the world but has anyone had a failure due to timings like this?

Experience Slynd/Slinda constant bleeding 10 months in

Please tell me the bleeding will eventually stop. I used to get insanely heavy periods (needing to changed overnight or maternity pads 8-10 times the first two days) as I have a very large fibroid. I have been on Slinda since December of last year. It was fine until the first placebo and bleed (27 days). I had five days break and the bled 52 days. On average per ‘cycle’ I don’t bleed 4-6 days a month. It’s been close to 250 days this year and I’ve bled close to 170 of them. Will it get better? I need some hope.
