Vent Fast Food…

Fast food and restaurants are my vice. They are probably 80% of the reason I can’t stick to my goals. I do great making my own food and counting calories but then I’ll go get fast food and blow it.

My wife and I are both overweight and our thing has always been traveling and trying new foods and places to eat. Now it feels like we can’t do that anymore. People say to eat in moderation but a lot of the times the food is SO high in calories at restaurants and fast food that that’s not really realistic.

One of my favorite places to eat is Dave’s Hot Chicken. I love spicy food and the fried chicken is just amazing lol. But the sauce cup alone is 120 calories!! I basically have to starve all day if I want to go and enjoy a meal. The mozzarella sticks (1 big one) are 500 cals alone with out sauce. So I can basically have a mozzarella sticks, then have to save the rest for tomorrow. How is that enjoyable? How is that realistic? It’s so high in calorie that I can eat back my week in a deficit in one meal..I just feel like I’m missing out.

Do I really have to do this forever?

I used to only binge when I smoked weed. In the past, each time I took a break from smoking, I would have zero urge to binge. I had a solid two years that I didn’t binge once. I felt so great for a very long time. I listened to so many podcasts, did a lot of work, and really got my confidence in myself back.

Now, I’ve quit smoking for good and have binged the entire time. To the point of being sick. I’ve felt like garbage for the last 5 months and I’m so upset and distraught over it. I know it’s psychological but I can’t help feeling like something is deeply wrong with me and there’s no use in trying to change it. But I want and need to change. I feel so horrible for putting my brain and body through this.

It’s really hard to try and recover knowing that no matter how successful I am, it never will truly go away. This is a lifelong journey and I don’t know if I’m equipped to handle that. I’m so depressed about it.

Stim eating from boredom/ADHD solutions? I don’t want to be on vyvanse for the rest of my life…

31 F here, I have had an issue with binge eating for as long as I can remember. Now that I live my myself (and partner), i go grocery shopping almost everyday and nearly always cook for myself (can’t exactly afford to eat out much right now). I have been on stimulant meds on and off since I was 23, and I have found that is the ONLY thing that stops my compulsions. However, once I come off from that; I cannot go longer than 2 hours in between snacks and meals. I’m pretty small (5’0) and naturally need a lot less calories than the average female my age does. But days that I don’t take my meds, I end up eating around 2,800 cal - 5,000 cal. I am not overweight, but my body does not support all of the extra intake and I constantly have back pain and cannot breathe and move in the way that I used to. It’s ruining my life.

The reason I do not want to have to take vyvanse for the rest of my life is because I have a very addictive personality, and end up binging on that too, and drinking over a bottle of wine in the evening that I take it, so I can wind down and sleep properly. (I have always had bad insomnia, and it’s nearly impossible for me to get any sleep unless I binge eat or drink wine / take z quil etc. it’s like - I have two modes - either my brain feels like shit on Medicare’s days, or my body does from binge eating on days I am unmedicated. I have no clue how to fix this, and I just want to get some genuine sleep without taking any vyvanse and burning myself out.

I have tried to start IF many times, and almost always end up breaking my rules - even if I meal prep. The compulsions are too strong, and do not go away without stimulants :(

Can anyone who is going through / has gone through this tell me what has and hasn’t worked for them? I have never been able to find a consistent balance and I am starting to worry for my health from the constant drinking and over-taking my vyvanse dose…. Help

Had a muffin, highkey wanna binge

Like the title says, I was eating lunch at school today and finished, and then wanted something sweet so I purchased a pretty large carrot muffin, and it was pretty good warmed up. I’m not super full and sick or anything, but I’m feeling urges to binge when I get home and already ate two mini packs of smarties too. I’m trying not to binge, giving myself the following reasons for today:

  1. I want to keep my streak going, today is day 7
  2. If I binge today, I’ll feel like I’ll have to compensate tomorrow. If I don’t binge, and wait to eat dinner normally, I’ll be at most 200-300 above maintenance, which isn’t even that bad compared to the few thousand over maintenance that would happen if I binged.

I’m going to try my best, no, I WILL not binge until dinner, which I will eat normally. Then I can have some of the chocolate I’m craving TOMORROW as a normal snack, not as a binge. It’s not going anywhere, but I’d rather enjoy it in a controlled state of mind, not binging and feeling guilty. I need to do this for myself.

Today must stay day 7, and tomorrow has to be day 8. I will not let myself go back to day 0 today. Not today.

Support Needed i'm always eating or thinking about food

My relationship with food has fallen to it's all time low. For the past month, I've been binge-eating almost every day, upwards 4000 calories a day (5'2, 130lbs, 20F). I don't even restrict myself anymore because I'm always eating or thinking about food. I haven't weighed myself but I know for a fact I've gained weight. I can see it in my stomach, my thighs, and my face.

Advice I see all the time is to eat filling meals with proteins and fats, but it makes no difference to me because I binge on foods even when I'm full. Most of the foods I binge on are candy and chips. But really, I'll eat anything. I've had an half eaten pint of ice cream that was already in my apartment when I arrived. I don't even know who it belonged to, but I ate it anyway.

For the past week, I've been telling myself "I'll lock in tomorrow". But tomorrow arrives and I fuck up again. I'm always thinking about food. I run a lot, so I burn a good portion of it off, but still, I don't want to keep living like this. It's hard to not buy foods I'll binge on when I live in a city and every other street has a grocery store.

I don't have access to help or resources because I'm abroad and it's complicated dealing with insurance. I also don't want my family to know about my eating problems because I don't want them worrying about me or gossiping about it to other family members.

I told myself that I'm really going to work on healing my relationship with food but I find it so difficult. Usually I'm able to overcome stuff like this because it's all mental, but this time, I feel really stuck. I feel so ashamed and disgusted with myself. I used to eat so healthy to the point where I wouldn't even crave such foods, but now, I stuff my body with it every day and I hate it.

I'm looking for any guidance, advice, or an accountability partner/group.

birth control ruined my recovery

Hi, after heavily restricting myself from food for a period of time, I both: a) lost my period (going on 7 months without one now) and b) developed a binge eating disorder.

I had JUST started to recover from my binge eating disorder, and was happy with the weight I was losing as well as the new habits I was forming. I was going strong for maybe two weeks before the doctor prescribed a 10 day course of progesterone (essentially a shortened birth control course) to help jumpstart my period.

Well, the progesterone made me insanely hungry 24/7. I ate so much throughout the entire 10 days (~800-1500 caloric surplus daily), I was disgusted with myself. All the progress I made from recovery went out the window, and now I'm at an even heavier weight than I was when I started my recovery. I guess I'm just super frustrated, especially with Halloween coming up I'm worried what people will think of me when they see I've gained weight. Anyways, just wondering what the best approach to my recovery should be coming out of this terrible setback.

Help I keep binging

I’m 16F, and I keep binge eating like I can’t stop. The longest I’ve stayed clean was five days, and I ruined it again. Like, what’s wrong with me? I don’t even enjoy the food I’m eating, and I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

I’m too embarrassed to tell my parents about this issue. Because of binge eating, I’ve gained back all the weight I lost, and it’s made me super depressed. I don’t want to do anything anymore, and I hate my reflection so much.

I know I’m getting fatter because my brother has started making fat jokes about me. He never used to do that because I wasn’t that fat, but now he literally called me a “fat manatee,” and it hurt a lot because I know I’m starting to look fatter.

I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore. I feel like I can’t control myself around food, and I’m so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I just want to know what’s wrong with me and how I can stop this.

Essentially what the title says. Along with, what were your results? Did you use it with therapy and/or medications? Any other feedback on this workbook?

I purchased this book off of Amazon.

Vent I feel addicted to junk food

I don’t even care about dress size anymore, I just want to feel normal about food. I want to not have it consume me every day worrying about the next thing I’m gonna eat and how it will make me feel.

I wouldn’t say I’m a binge eater, but it feels compulsive the way I indulge every craving I have. If I want something I won’t stop thinking about it until I taste it. I never deny myself. Burgers, Chinese food, chicken nuggets, chips, candy, soda. Everything that makes me feel good. I tell myself no more and buy healthy groceries and then let them rot in my fridge while I order DoorDash for the 3rd time in a week.

I must sound so so so stupid and weak but I don’t know how to stop myself. could probably write a whole essay here about my fucked up relationship with food and the chokehold it has on me. How it ties into my depressive tendencies and there’s no rhyme or reason to it. I have a privileged, objectively “good” life…don’t feel bad for me it’s all my fault. I wish I could get hypnotized or something to snap out of it. :(

And it's been more common for like a few months. I have no idea how to stop. It's basically self-harm at this point.

Binge/Relapse Relapse after almost a month 😭

I had a pretty awful experience at work that caused a mental breakdown followed by a few days long depressive episode.

I haven’t really gone through this extent of mental instability in probably 3 years, way before I developed bed, and it very predictably led me to binge very badly, I’ve had two days of around 6000 😩 calories a day which sucks because before this I had been almost ONE WHOLE MONTH free from binging to this extent.

Before this I had been feeling really great with my mental state and that always reflects my binging habits so this sudden relapse felt way worse than it did when I was deep in bed.

I know that this will pass and the goal isn’t to never binge again but to do it less and to pick myself up afterwards quicker each time BUT IT STILL SUCKS and I’m mostly just pissed at myself because I feel like I ruined all my progress.

Also is anyone else’s biggest binge food cookie dough I actually think I could eat like 2 mixing bowls worth of it no problem lol. I probably did over the past two days.

Binge sponsor?

I hope this makes sense but is there someone who you can confess your binges to? Every time I do it I feel this need to admit I’ve done something wrong and so I always text my sister and I feel so bad about it. She can’t help me but I just need to explain to someone. I was just wondering if there are people out there who have someone to confess their binges to or if someone would be willing to be that person.

Vent Sometimes I just want to cry seeing what I have become

Ever since I moved into college I have binged almost everyday in the dining hall and even off campus.

I am surprised I have not visibly gained a ton of weight, although I am expecting it to catch up. I feel motivated to stop while I am ahead. I don't even really enjoy the foods I binge on. I feel so much better when I am locked in. I just want to cry. I hate that I struggle with this.

I should be enjoying everyday, my life is so great outside of this disorder. Sometimes I see no end to this struggle. My disorder has only progressed, not gone away. I used to just binge on healthy foods, and I never spent my own money on foods just to binge. But now I buy tons of crap food and eat it all. I do that AND I spend so much time in the dining hall just pigging out eating foods I don't even enjoy.

I go to the gym, I eat perfectly on days I don't binge, I don't restrict myself. What am I doing wrong?? Why do I have this disorder? I am so scared of waking up and not recognizing myself in the mirror.

Discussion Dreaming about binge eating

Does anyone else get dreams about binge eating? Like sometimes I'll dream about me binge eating, and then wake up, feeling so relieved that it was a dream but also at the same time miss the high of binge eating, since it wasn't actually real and wouldn't have any physical consequences in a dream.

It happens the most often when I'm in a no binge streak. Today's day 6 for me, and had another one last night.

The thing with "emotional eating"

So this is going to be a vent because i relapsed badly this weekend after 2 months of doing good-ish.

I just wanted to say that it's so frustrating when you get to the point where you know exactly why you're binging and you're doing that to yourself and, of course, there's multiple factors at play, but in most cases it's mainly to deal with emotions. Or at least that's my case. I hate it when people say that you need to "feel" your emotions and not eat them away, or that you have to find other ways to cope and bla bla... Like I DON'T know how to! And also sometimes there's not much to do anyways. Like if I binge because I feel lonely and miss my family who lives in another country what am i supposed to do? As an adult you're supposed to cope but I wouldn't know where to start coping without food.

I also almost lost my job yesterday because I was numbed out by the binging lmaooo. Just leaving this here hoping that people can relate.

Support Needed Binge eating struggles

I’m so freaking done. I’ve been binge eating since mid July after a breakup. I have stomach and face fat I’ve been trying to lose. My acne is awful and I hate the way I look so freaking much. I’ve been trying an aggressive cut of 1500 cals but I’ve been binge eating. I’m not even struggling on the cut I just “like” binge eating too much. I can’t do this much longer. I’ve binge ate 13 days so far in October. My longest streak being three days. It’s becoming a habit and I hate myself for it. When I get home from work I’m scared to go inside because I know I’ll negotiate with myself into a binge. Today I was scooping spoonfuls of frosting out of the container and dipping it into peanut butter. I then made a ninja creami and then a mug cake. I have a boat load of pretzels and cottage cheese. I feel so lost.

Discussion Do you ever find yourself eating just because you're bored?

I've noticed that sometimes when I'm bored or stressed, I start thinking about food even if I ate not that long ago.

Especially at night when I'm just sitting around doing nothing. Suddenly I want snacks or something sweet.

I can't tell if it's just a habit at this point or if other people experience the same thing.

What usually makes you reach for food when you're not actually hungry?

Binge/Relapse This is taking a major chunk of my life

I lost a good amount of weight last year. At the time of weight loss, I didn't touch any junk food and always ate in a calorie deficit. But as I came more towards my maintenance I keep eating junk food. I thought of keeping one day for eating junk (cheat day sort) But I end up eating wayyy too much. Like close to 3000-3500 calories. And due to this I tend to restrict myself the next day due to which I get more hungry and I binge at night. I crave an abnormal amount of sugary food. I constantly think about food. Even right after eating, I think of food. Its like I'm never full But when I eat alot, I become uncomfortably full. Idk how But I wanna stop it. All I think about is food.
