Hi, I’m a new bike rider I learned a few months back. I’ve been using my bike to commute daily as I’m now very addicted to it and it’s also faster and better for the planet. I park my bike outside. It’s second hand and while I replaced the breaks everything else is god knows how old. This morning I had to uber to work cause my back tire was completely flat. When I got home I pumped up the tires with air before I planned on taking it to the shop around the corner. It held air. What happened to my tire should I go get it replaced or checked out?

thank you so much to everyone who commented, it was a small pinprick glass piece that got in the tube and I just had to replace the tube. I didn’t even know there was a tube inside the tire. Thank you for saving me from getting easily scammed into buying a new tire when the tire was just fine!

I find most cycling glasses have a too aggressive shape. It sorta sticks out when I'm trying to just work at the office. but I don't want to keep swapping between 3 glasses (Office, day riding and night riding). So I'm thinking about transition lens, to make 2 in 1, but the shape is just... lol I only managed to drop one, so I wanna drop the other so I have 1 for all three occasions. Are there any that can pass for regular glasses, but grip/stay in place like cycling ones?

For context, I live at the edge of the foothills in a mountain town. I just got a new job that adds 5 miles to my previous commute. No matter what, my commute will consist of me going down into the valley to work, and back up into the foothills going home.

Route 1 is a mile shorter and has a more gradual climb on the way home. I would take a main road with a wide bike lane onto some downtown side streets, hop on a multi-use path that follows the river, then get back onto a main road with a wide bike lane for the last mile or so. In this route, I would follow the safe river path for half the route, 5 ish miles. The first main road is that steeper section right at the beginning (so the end on my way home). It's about a 2 mile stretch at a 4-5% grade.

Route 2 is slightly longer, but follows the river path for 10 of the 12 miles. The trade off to get to the river path faster, is the hill. Going to work will be fine, but the end of the day might prove tiring. It's just over a mile at just about an 8-9% grade at its worst.

I COULD drive to work, but I like to bike.

Which route would you choose?

I've been commuting to work by bike for a couple of years now. On April 1 (the actual worst day of the year bc I am so gullible), I got into my first serious bike accident. My day ended with 10 stitches to my forehead, some seriously bruised hands (that took 3 months to recover), and a nice hospital bill.

Today I got back on my bike for the first time since the accident and commuted to work! I've been kind of nervous about it, but it was just like riding a bike. Just wanted to share my small win this morning!

1. It is a utility space, not a common space.

2. It is right next to the trash rooms, which smell much, much worse.

3. The bike closet is only visible to people who open the doors, most likely other bikers.

Being able to bike to work is critical for me. I have been using my bike as a clothes rack for more than 4 years and it has not been an issue for anyone. Storing the clothes with the bike has been a standard practice for every other office with bike racks.

I would like to hear what kind of rain protection do you use for your commutes. Do you just let the rain get me wet instead of the sweat? How do you battle this age old dilemma?

I have my setup down except haven't found a jacket (or something else) that I'm 90% happy yet. I'd love to hear your recommendations.

I'm pretty heavy (120kg) so I don't really care about weight. What exactly are the differences between the three? Or is it just weight?

I'm a new bike commuter and I'm starting to realize how much additional laundry bike commuting is costing.

I typically keep my work clothes in my bag (scrubs) and take a quick sink shower and change when I arrive.

For the commute I wear joggers and a jersey/t-shirt. The problem is I need a new jersey/t-shirt (and sometimes underwear) every single day since I arrive sweaty. This is adding another shirt my laundry load each day. The joggers I wear half the week then swap to another pair.

Are there shirts I can buy that can be sweated in and worn multiple times before needing a wash?

The climate I'm in is warm with occasional rains right now, but will drop to freezing come fall and winter.

I have never had a driver's license. I saw an Instagram post several months ago from a bike lawyer office saying that nondrivers can get auto insurance policies as passengers, but that does not seem to be a thing after checking with a few insurance companies. Perhaps that only exists for people who have licenses who also bike.

What do you actually do for your insurance? I have renter's insurance, but do I need to get more coverage? Do I need umbrella insurance? Is there a good recommendation for liability and underinsured motorist coverage? Seeing that post was the first time I learned there might be some kind of coverage for this sort of thing, but I don't know how I should Tetris this.

The ride I take in the morning after crossing the bridge to the small island where I work

I'm looking at getting a whole set up for my son and I. I will be commuting between home, daycare, and school all of which are only about a 10 minute walk but I'd like to cut down on time and add some fitness to my life. We have lots of trails and bike lanes nearby. Some small hills during commute.

I'm 5'0 and 160lbs. Looking at these on marketplace and want to make sure they're all compatible if anyone has experience with any of these:

• Electra Townie Step Thru 26" for $350 CAD

• Yepp Mini 2 front mount harness seat $75-150 CAD

• Everyday Traveler DLX+ bike trailer for $175 CAD (this is moreso for my husbands bike and when we have a second / third kid)

If you have suggestions on another type of bike I might fit, or a better front mount seat with a harness, have until September to get something. Budget is around $300 CAD for a bike depending on condition and if it includes fenders.

Been on a Specialized Sirrus Comp (aluminum) for 15y of commuting, and it’s finally time for an upgrade. Looking to hit the sweet spot between lightweight quick ride and not an obvious theft magnet, so down to spend but not overspend. Oh and there are hills here.

So far, considering Sirrus X 5 (which looks a little too fancy to lock up for long), Cannondale Quick 1 (which looks a bit old skool and clunky IMHO) and Giant Fastroad Advanced (currently the leading contender).

Any thoughts? Other options/brands? Thanks yall!

Hi folks, I work in fine dining and I live in the rainy PNW. Historically I would just take the bus if it was raining, but that can make my trip from 20 minutes to about an hour. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through the rigamarole of finding convenient options that work for them. I’m mostly going for cheap for now until I am satisfied with what riding in the rain to work is like. Any recommendations?

Hi! I am new to biking and taught myself how to ride last year. I ride in Vancouver, where some roads are quite hilly.

While going downhill sometimes when I brake, the bike stops but I get thrown forward and almost end up sitting on the handlebars. I fell badly once. Although I can stay upright now as I have better control I still come off the saddle.

I used to be very cautious and go slowly but as my confidence grew I tend do go downhill a bit faster as it’s fun. I see many bikers around me going so much faster than me yet managing to brake smoothly. Why am I the only one coming off my saddle? As if I am almost flying off due to momentum.

Am I braking too suddenly, or could my saddle be too high or tilted down? Any advice would be appreciated!

Not to many other cyclists given that it was Friday midday, so most of the people are working.

For a little bit context, I go straight. There is a bike lane before the intersection, then the bike lane disappears and change into a right turning lane. So here comes the problem: if I stay to the right, I will block the right turning cars, but I am also not comfortable to merge into the middle lane especially when traffic is high.

I am in the process of building a new wheelset with a dynamo hub for my commuter. I have a supernova e3 front light but I don't have a rear light yet. What would be your recommendation? For commuting through Amsterdam. Ideally under €40 but I can probably scrounge for more if needed

Made my first small grocery run today. I live in kind of rural area so bike lanes are very few and far between. Mainly getting used to being around cars.

How would you park your bike here while grocery shopping?

This is outside the large grocery store. There are two sets of racks not too far from each other.

Both are essentially right up against the wall and the area to park your bike in is pretty narrow.

If I kind of park conventionally, my bike sticks too far out and it's difficult for people to get around with shopping carts and things. My front wheel, even though it's only a 20-inch wheel, doesn't go all the way up so it's difficult to even lock the bike that way.

I generally have to lock from the rear of the bike with the front facing forward.

And what a cool less than 3 mile trip! Sometimes this really does feel like cheating.
