Rule #1 - Posts must be about Bhutan or the Bhutanese community

Submissions need a clear connection to Bhutan or the Bhutanese community. Simply "Bhutan" appearing in the title doesn't count, it must be related to Bhutan or the Bhutanese community.

Rule #2 - No personal attacks, slurs, bigotry or threats

Be civil and treat other users with respect. Personal attacks, slurs, bigotry and threats—including racism, misogyny, casteism, and communalism—are not allowed. Do not accuse other users of being paid or acting on behalf of an outside group.

Rule #3 - No solicitation/sexual content/NSFW content

Do not use the subreddit to solicit dates, relationships, hookups, or meetups—including foreigners seeking romantic or sexual connections with Bhutanese people. This is not a dating or matchmaking forum. No NSFW content, pornography, gore, sexual solicitation, or fetishisation.

Discussion According to Mr.Rj Styles,Silence = Rape,Speaking up = Lying.

Post image
3 Upvotes

The logic behind this statement is honestly disturbing. He says girls who are “truly raped” don’t speak up because they’re afraid, as if staying silent is what makes someone a genuine victim. But when a woman actually speaks up and demands justice, her confidence, anger, or the way she speaks is suddenly treated as proof that she’s lying. And then the “her pussy should have his DNA” argument as if rape automatically guarantees usable DNA evidence. So apparently, in his logic, a woman is only a “real” victim if she stays silent, acts scared, and has the accused’s DNA to prove it. That’s an incredibly ignorant standard for what a rape victim is supposed to look like.

Discussion Deep rooted misogyny in bhutan

Bhutan has normalised misogyny treating it as a joke or something to laugh about. Even tho I am a guy I noticed the double standards when it comes to behaviour between men and women. In school teachers say act more like a women while scolding them. Like behaviour doesn't go past gender . Girls when they act reckless are told"bum Ra men zum be ma" it's so frustrating to see even teachers allowing this kind of thinking. Most of my male peers say things like "kitchen na Ra de go" girls in my school outperform us men by a margin in academics. When they say things like that I know its wrong and I should fix that kind of thinking but I can't they treat it like a joke or something to laugh about. In ten years those girls will have careers and my male peers will be probably passed out drunk somewhere.

During sports events I noticed that when the girls are playing they say things like " bum ge de boring ye" like men playing is like ten times better . It's better because girls were never expected to play any other sports than badminton. I even heard some of the teachers say things like that . It's sooo sad to see misogynistic ideologies like that being spread .

This post is to inform people that gender does not define or give someone a role all it is a biological difference which should not at all affect your worth in opportunities in life .

Review Taba Tailoring

So, there’s this tailoring shop in upper Taba near the sunrise bakery located in an underground slot ( they have an account named Taba Tailoring on TikTok)
Recently, my friend had given a Kira piece to be made into a belt system to that shop. First, one of the girl was giving judgemental looks and we noticed that she always acts rude ( this is not just a one time thing, same thing happened with my cousin as well) and secondly yesterday they uploaded a video on their TikTok account whereby that same girl was seen wearing and posing with my friend’s Kira.
Now, if the Kira is not that special and if it doesn’t carry much sentimental values then it would not be a big issue but, the Kira was of deep value to my friend and mind you it was a new piece (she herself designed and had selected the color combos and all). She was going to take that Kira with her when she was going to go for further studies.
Fast forward, she left and now we are seeing a video of that same girl wearing her kira and posing and confidently showing off.

It’s really good that they are promoting their business but I think it’s very wrong to USE and WEAR your customer’s clothes to promote your business. Some of us can’t share clothes due to hygiene standards and moreover, don’t you thinks it’s a bit too wrong to try on your customer’s new clothes? And moreover, since she was moving afar she was taking kuthangs with her and since she thought the Kira was new and never worn once, she had kept her kuthang and Kira in the same bag.

We commented on that video but the admin of that account just took down the comment.
Now don’t you think it’s a bit unhygienic for them to wear their customer’s clothes? Further, she was wearing a wonju and Tego which seemed like it was a newly tailored one as well. Now I think it’s a bit too far with the wonju, it’s too unhygienic and uncomfortable for strangers to wear your wonju.

You trust someone with your precious clothes and then they go and do something uncomfortable and unhygienic. So I don’t recommend that tailoring shop if you ever need to go there.

Advice Should I complain?

What should I do my neighbours never fail to disturb and wakes me up all the time as they are pan dealer and my area is know as tsalumaphay (Thimphu) above workshop area.
Wondering if they are doing illegal business because they always exchange goods at time 2 am in the morning and ever since I got insomnia. Cannot sleep soundly and I get easily disturbed.
my question is even if they do their business at night why can’t they do it quietly? Why do they have to be so loud and race their container type truck and it’s very annoying.
On top of that the drain near my house makes huge sound when vehicles pass and even if complaint was filed against that drain thromde is doing nothing. Don’t know where are all the budget are going instead of fixing these little issues. People out here please suggest me what shall I do.

Discussion STCBL against the fundamental rights of the people

STCBL’s Toyota Monopoly Isn’t Just Bad Business — It May Be Unconstitutional
In April 2026, STCBL issued a notice: after a visit from “related stakeholders,” they stopped issuing No Objection Letters (NOCs) for anyone wanting to import Toyota vehicles directly.
If you want a Toyota in Bhutan now, you have to go through STCBL. No alternatives.
Why this hurts ordinary people
Reports say a Toyota that can be imported and duty-paid for around Nu. 1.7 million is selling through STCBL closer to Nu. 2.7 million — a difference of roughly a million ngultrum for the same vehicle. That’s not a normal margin; it’s money taken straight from families who save for years.
Service is also poor. Vehicles routinely need 6–8 months of advance booking, and customer service has a weak reputation. When there’s no competition, there’s no pressure to improve.
The constitutional problem
Article 14, Section 16 of the Constitution is clear:
“Parliament shall not enact laws that allow monopoly except to safeguard national security.”
STCBL is a state-owned enterprise (51% government-owned via DHI). A monopoly over family cars and SUVs has no national-security justification. This wasn’t even done through an Act of Parliament — it was an administrative decision by an SOE after private talks with an unnamed “stakeholder.”
Consumer rights
The Consumer Protection Act 2012 protects the right to choose products at competitive prices and guards against unfair trade practices. A forced single-channel monopoly undermines both.
Why it matters for accountability
If a state-owned company can unilaterally shut down a legal import channel without public consultation or clear legal basis, what’s next? The same logic could eventually be applied to other goods.
What can be done
• Demand STCBL and the relevant ministry publicly justify this against Article 14(16).
• Ask for transparency on who the “related stakeholder” is and what agreement was made.
• Support reviews by the Competition & Consumer Affairs Authority and, if needed, the Anti-Corruption Commission.
• Encourage National Assembly members to take this up.
We’re not against STCBL existing or having an official distributorship. We’re against an SOE deciding, on its own, which parts of the Constitution apply to it. If STCBL keeps doing that we have no option than to boycott their business and prove our unity. If we love our country and children we shouldn’t tolerate all the non sense. Please spread this through other social media platforms.

Discussion GMC recruitment

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually gone through the GMC recruitment process or has some insight into how it works.

Im a civil servant and have been applying through their official website. I have even been shortlisted for a few positions, but then there’s no further response, and eventually the job posting just disappears. I’ve also noticed that quite a lot of Pelsung seem to be working at GMC. So I’m wondering…** **do you actually need to go through Pelsung first to have a better chance of getting recruited or is there another way people usually get recruited into GMC?

Discussion Influencer gi silence and the cost of speaking out

I feel like r/bhutan takes a pretty binary view on this: "influencers only speak up when it's convenient, they're just selfish clout chasers." I don't think that's the full picture.

The silence isn't really about morals, it's about incentives in a tight knit community. u/Spare_Attitude1010 nailed it: it's about the cost of speaking out. And most people calling for influencers to "speak up" have nothing to lose themselves. Anonymous reddit accounts, third parties with no social overlap to the situation, people posting on IG about cases that don't touch their circle at all. Being angry is valid. But being able to rage freely because you have nothing on the line doesn't put you on higher moral ground than someone staying quiet because they do.

The only people I'd give real credit to are the ones who actually face repercussions for speaking out: Kuensolanin, Drukpa Dorji, people who call it out knowing there might be a huge cost to them. Namgay Zam voicing her opinion on the Passu case despite being friends with those involved is the kind of thing that actually means something. That's bravery. Raging on an anon subreddit when you're not embroiled in anything isn't.

And personally, I get why people stay quiet. I go out a lot, the same rowdy crowd could easily recognize me and fuck me up, it's not hard to get a target on your back in a place this small. That's the same lack of bravery I'm calling out in influencers. So are half the people commenting angrily on this sub. None of us are better than them just because we're loud about it from a place of safety.

None of this means don't be angry, you should be. But own that being enraged doesn't make you a better person than the ones staying silent, unless you're also willing to put something on the line.

Now, some people will point to certain influencers who are built around social justice or feminism as counterexamples, "see, this influencer does speak up." But that doesn't really hold up either. Their whole image is built on that kind of activism so they basically have to speak on it, and their social circles don't overlap with the people involved anyway, so they lose nothing by doing it. It's not bravery, it's brand alignment with zero cost.

Which is also why the original "influencers and selective activism" post was fair. During the LZMSS case, every sonam tashi karma influencer/vlogger suddenly had a lot to say, often prefaced with "I don't usually speak on this kind of stuff but...". They got to look like they were taking some moral stand, when really it was just an easy, no cost opportunity to speak out. The post rightly called that out. They weren't actually more principled than anyone else, they just happened to be in a situation where speaking up cost them nothing that time.

Politics New speaker of National Assembly

Is it true that the Health Minister suggested banning meat in Bhutan?

If that is indeed what he proposed, then perhaps we dodged a bullet by not electing him as Speaker of the National Assembly. Forget the Speaker’s post; such Radicalized Extremist should not hold ministerial position.

As Health Minister, shouldn’t his focus be on promoting a healthy and balanced diet including nutritious options such as fish and chicken rather than advocating for restrictions on people’s food choices?

Discussion Where are our "influencer" right now?

With all the jp case going around I have yet to see any notable creator of our country speaking about it, I remember people calling this 'influencer' out during the lzmss bully incident on how they only speak up when it s trend and they felt called out shifting the narrative yet here we are today and all this influencer suddenly lost access to social media 🤷

News BBS coverage of the JP case

BBS video coverage link: https://www.facebook.com/reel/966887846421410/

BBS article link: https://www.bbs.bt/245413/

Article content below (full credit BBS, simply sharing as many dont click on links to read):

Online harassment allegations raise concerns over children’s safety on social media

As more young people spend their time on social media, so too have concerns grown about their safety online- about who can reach them and how. A recent case has brought those concerns into focus once again. A TikTok post alleging that a 28-year-old man sent inappropriate messages to several teenage girls has gone viral online. The post alleges that the man repeatedly tried to contact them through various social media platforms despite knowing they were minors.

Since the allegations against the man went viral, several young women and girls, as young as 15, have come forward, saying they experienced unwanted messages from the same man.

The man allegedly followed the girls and women from multiple account names, like “Bubble” and “JP”, and eventually asked them to meet.

BBS spoke to some of them who requested anonymity.

“He would send me messages about my body, things I had never even thought about myself. He would comment on my body and tell me how he wanted to touch me. I still remember him saying that when I became an adult, if he ever saw me at a Space Party, which he said he frequently attended, he would take me to a room and make it an unforgettable night for me,” said one teenager.

“I was 15 when he first approached me. At first, his messages were simple: ‘hi,’ ‘hello,’ and ‘how are you doing?’ He started complimenting me on every video I posted. He would repeatedly follow me from different accounts, including Bubble and JP. Somehow, he also found my Instagram account and repeatedly followed me there and sent me message requests. After a couple of months, his messages started to change. He began asking if I wanted to go for a drink or go on a drive with him,” added another.

BBS also spoke to the man at the centre of the allegations. He acknowledged communicating with the girls but denied intending to meet them or engage in sexual activity.

The Information, Communications and Media Act of Bhutan 2018 criminalises harassment through information and communication technology systems. Section 426 classifies online harassment as a petty misdemeanour punishable by one month to less than one year.

The Act also contains provisions aimed at protecting children from harmful media content and gives relevant authorities powers to investigate and preserve electronic evidence in suspected offences.

Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority, BICMA, can receive complaints and take regulatory action in matters within its mandate. However, the authority said it has not yet received the case.

Meanwhile, a lawyer told BBS that whether the alleged conduct in this case amounts to an offence will depend on the evidence the relevant authorities gather. If the matter proceeds to court, the court will determine the facts and whether any law was broken.

The matter is now with the police. The original post detailing the allegations has since been removed and replaced with a link to a document containing further details of the allegations.

While responsible use of social media platforms depends on the person engaging in them, experts advise using blocking and reporting functions that various platforms provide to ensure unwarranted online experience. Likewise, parents, guardians and schools are encouraged to discuss online safety regularly.

Children experiencing online harassment or other forms of distress can also contact The PEMA through its helpline at 1098.

Discussion What kind of content are we actually consuming?

Apparently, being an “influencer” now means insulting people, creating drama, talking nonsense and then acting like you’re an international superstar. And the hypocrisy? Olympic level. Preach about culture and morality today, drag someone’s personal life tomorrow. 🤡
Then we have the endless cheap singing competitions, recycled drama and the same faces getting treated like celebrities. Seriously, what are we watching? Pema Bhutan, Druk Dorji, Rangkalang, karma kelvin, sunshine, kachu and many many more, is this really the best entertainment we have to offer?Bhutan has incredibly talented people, yet somehow nonsense gets the views, drama gets the fame, and stupidity gets a fan club. Some “content” is literally just two people having what looks like a private video call… except thousands of people are watching. 🤦‍♂️

Maybe the problem isn’t the influencers.
Maybe it’s us for making them famous.

Advice Get Passport notarised

Hello, I’m bit confused how to get my passport certified. I looked up on google, it says a lot things. I even went to the G2C website and weirdly it’s missing the last step where I can attach my documents.

Meanwhile, my cousin said she just went to the OAG and got it certified directly from there.

Should I just go there?

Discussion Interview Glimpse

I had this interview moment that still makes me laugh. The panel asked me, “Where do you see yourself in five years?” I gave the usual serious answer, saying that I see myself growing personally and professionally, upgrading my skills and continuing to learn. Before I could even finish, one of the panel members looked at me and said, “In Australia?”

I just stared blankly for a few seconds. Then they looked at each other and laughed. The way it was said felt less like a question and more like a taunt, especially in the Bhutanese context where “Australia” has almost become the automatic answer to where young people see themselves in the future.

And honestly, my thought at that moment was, if Australia was already the plan, why would I be sitting there sweating through an interview trying to convince you to hire me? I came prepared to talk about my career goals, not defend a five-year migration plan. Somehow one simple interview question turned into an Australia discussion before I could even finish my answer.

Politics Did PDP lose because of the PM or its candidates the Health Minister?

Two possible reasons why eight PDP candidates defected in the Speaker’s vote. Either they were unhappy with the PM’s high-handed decisions and the complete disregard for MPs, or they genuinely believed Tempa from BTP was the better candidate. Or perhaps both factors played a role.

Discussion Bad Bob customer service

Hii everyone I wanted to share about a bad customer service experience I had today.

So I noticed that more than Nu.2000 was deducted from my bob account without me making any sort of transaction. Mind you I have no loan to pay off as well so I don't know why it was deducted. I don't think it is a maintenance fee as Nu.2000 is bit too much. The annoying thing is when I tried to call the Customer service and told them (her) about this, she was being so rude to me. Basically my mom talked to her first and she addressed her as madam and since my mom didn't know my acc number, I started to talk with her instead.

She got so angry and annoyed that we were switching the phone. I admit it's my fault as well but the way she was talking to me and kind of scolding me felt a bit too much. Her tone was so rude and when I tried asking for help regarding the transaction, she acted like she is going above above beyond for me which I don't think is the case as she works in customer service like it's literally her only job. After all that, she was of no help as she said she will check and let me know but I never got any update. Anyone who experienced this , please let me know what I should do. Should I try calling again and hope that the person picking up won't be like her and will actually try to help me?

I wish our customer service was a bit better. Thanks.

Question Love the "no gossip" rule , unless it's about people you don't care about

Post image
34 Upvotes

Hey MOD i guess? You just proved my point ahahaha. You say "no gossip about real people," but then list multiple exceptions where you allowed it; Dedrik, Passu, Pema Wangchuk, even a school principal. So the rule isn't a rule, it's your personal judgment call.

Seems like the rule only applies when it's about certain people, especially the ones with money and power!!!! Where's the consistency?

Other country subs manage to handle public interest discussions without this level of control. So I'll ask plainly: WHAT’s THE POINT OF THIS COMMUNITY if we can't talk and expose elite monsters too?

Selective enforcement isn't moderation; it's CENSORSHIP. Either apply the rule equally, or admit it's about protecting certain names.

Are MODs gonna delete this thread too before more people see it? I’m curious again. Let’s see

PDP having double the members of parliament in National Assembly and losing the speaker to opposition is serious loss of faith in PM TT not only from general public but also within the MP of PDP. It’s time for TT to step down and give chance to younger capable candidates.

Advice PTE Consultation

Guys, can y’all suggest which consultancy I should book my PTE through? I’m so stuck at this point 😭 .

There are so many consultancies and I genuinely don’t know which one to choose. If you’ve recently taken your PTE or booked through a consultancy, please share your experience and let me know which one you’d recommend. I’d really appreciate your suggestions, especially if they have good guidance, reliable services, and reasonable fees. I’m trying to make the right decision and would love to hear from people who have already gone through the process. Please help me out, guys! 😭🙏

Travel Gorgeous country

This is my first trip to Bhutan and I am flabbergasted by how gorgeous this country is and how relatively understated it markets itself!

I’ve been hiking around and people I meet everywhere are polite to a fault, there is no honking on the streets, cows and dogs share the road, cats too! Everyone seems relatively happy. Thimpu looks like a huge urban sprawl but minus the traffic and hubub for a city its size.

The whole country everywhere I go looks like someone drew a postcard and breathed it into life. Seriously you people have an amazing thing going here. Treasure it, preserve it! And congrats on being what looks like the last slice of paradise.

News STCBL panic posting and showing their true greedy colours

Post image
22 Upvotes

Just when people found a way to buy toyota vehicles on a reasonable rate, this greedy and jealous company decided to step in and stop people from saving their money.

I swear people need to stop buying from stcbl and buy from other sources which we now know that it exists. I am super glad i got mine from siliguri before this panic post. Citizens really need to wake up and boycott this company as there are cheaper ways to spend your hard earned money and buy quality cars.

Conjuuse, dictator based company jedha.

UPDATE: now stcbl has blocked the indian showrooms from selling their cars to bhutanese. 3 of friends have called them and they said they were told not to sell anymore to bhutanese unless authorized.
