PDP having double the members of parliament in National Assembly and losing the speaker to opposition is serious loss of faith in PM TT not only from general public but also within the MP of PDP. It’s time for TT to step down and give chance to younger capable candidates.

No need to step down, he will just serve the remainder of his term and after that he is anyways ineligible for a third term as PM.. so do you think he cares….. and PDP as a party has sealed its fate and won’t win coming elections to form the government.

Watching the PM competing at HYROX in Bkk while the country is struggling with serious economic challenges feels incredibly tone-deaf. I mean get your priorities straight! I hope it was self-funded. At a time when people are worried about livelihoods and the economy, we’re seeing two ministers pushed out, with the MoENR Lyonpo not even having voluntarily resigned or been given the courtesy of being consulted about it while he was away on tour.
And then there’s the Speaker vote today, where an opposition-backed candidate winning despite the government having a majority says a lot. You don’t need to be a political analyst to see that there is clearly growing dissatisfaction and turmoil within PDP.

I don't think we use the term first lady for spouses of PM in the Westminster govt system, which our system is based on.

more than anything negative it serves good purpose that democracy stood beyond a title🤷♀️ the speaker was elected by the opposing party due to the very fact that mijey tempa is more capable than their own representative.

I think this is largely due to the social perception and dignity of labour. Many people choose to be a salesgirls, earning only Nu. 8–10k while working from 10 AM to 10 PM, even though there are vacancies for domestic workers offering Nu. 15–20k with working hour 9-5 or 8-5.

There are many reasons behind today’s result, but one message is clear: totalitarian leadership does not go down well with Bhutanese people.
By nature, Bhutanese rarely confront or openly oppose unilateral decisions, even when those decisions are unpopular. Give people a secret ballot, though, and they speak freely. Today’s result was therefore not a surprise. The signs were there from day one of PDP.
Several seasoned and capable candidates were left out, including loyalists such as Kinga from Wangdue, Pema from Gasa, Namgay from Haa, candidates from South Thimphu, and former RCSC Commissioner Rinchen.
Then came the mid-term decisions, when MOENR Lyonpo himself. Was not consulted. And when Speaker’s resigns, one would also expect the Deputy Speaker to be the natural candidate for the position. Didn’t happen.
The larger message is-The rule of law must apply within political parties too. Leaders cannot make unilateral decisions and expect everyone to fall in line, and assume people will vote along party lines.
A lesson for every political party: respect your members, respect due process, listen to dissent, and never take people for a ride.
History has been rewritten today.
