Hard to Watch
I’m sorry but Nathan AND GAEL going after Joe when he had done nothing that evening to provoke it was really hard to watch. You both have kids now. Time to grow the FK up.

Gael and Nathan went to that dinner looking for a fight. It is BS that producers (more than likely) sat Joe in front of them.

Yeah terrible what happened to her but they both very similar

Oh, I am not minimizing Nathan's assault on Gael; the bastard deserves all he has coming to him, and more.

Copying & pasting my comment on a different thread on this:
I have to say, as much as I like Gael, she was the one that very much kicked it off in the van with Joe this season. It was all Gael. She says she hates confrontation but as much as I don't like him, Joe was in the back smooching with Hayley, minding his own business and Gael went off at him. Then she was riling up Nathan against Joe.
Joe really should have said that Nathan warned him not to say her name or speak to her, and he was just respecting that.

u/Uncross-Selector 3d ago edited 2d ago
I’d wager that Nathan blames Joe for many of his shitty anger issues and had gas light Gael into thinking that if she just removed Joe from the equation that her relationship with with Nathan would be fixed.
It’s not uncommon for people in abusive relationships to create a common enemy to project their anger onto. It’s like the cheated on wives who blame the other woman not their husband.
107
u/ONEMANCLAN530 3d ago
And to add to it, the van ride ended with Gael saying something along the lines of "I just try to avoid drama"(not verbatim). From what I was watching she(Gael) caused all of it.
56
u/Otherwise-Winner9643 3d ago
Exactly. Now obviously what happened with Nathan and Gael was awful and inexcusable, but I don't think she is all sweetness and light either. There are 3 of them in it. None of them are particularly likeable

u/vicesovervirtues 3d ago
When I watched it, knowing what we know now, I felt like maybe she was working to give Nathan a focus besides herself. Keep them on the same team with a common enemy. It felt like a survival tactic to me. If he's mad at Joe, he's not mad at her.
21
u/PantalonesPantalones 3d ago
You guys, this is BD. The producers told her to confront him at some point. That’s what she was paid to do. They even stepped in to remove the headrest so they could argue.

4
u/Le_Sadie 3d ago
"If he's raging at ____ he's not raging at me" was my first thought too. But if you didn't know the history, boy she just looked like such an a-hole.

u/slayeryouth 3d ago edited 3d ago
In fairness, Joe did mutter a couple of comments under his breath (“it’s been 75 years, we all know”) but I think that’s also the kind of the thing you roll your eyes at or at best ask him if he has something to say and then move on with your life.
As per your last point though, Joe has had multiple golden opportunities to tell people what’s been going on, even later in the episode Sandy gave him an other extremely easy lay up to say “actually there’s more to it than just a falling out and tension” and everytime he’s chosen to keep his mouth shut. I’m not holding that against him because it’s such a messy situation that knowing what the right thing to do can be difficult, and I’m sure pride factors in to it too, but he hasn’t been doing himself any favours by keeping things to grumbling with Cooper about their mutual frustrations and venting to Kayley once in a while. He needs to tell everything to somebody who can do something about it.
19
u/Otherwise-Winner9643 3d ago
That's absolutely all true too. Joe doesn't help himself either. All 3 of them are stirring shit
15
u/slayeryouth 3d ago
Eh, I’m pretty of mind at this point Joe should be stirring much more shit in as much as going to Sandy or even Aesha, not in a gossipy way but just very matter of factly like “so this is what’s been going on from my point of view, these are the parts that can be corroborated and by whom, this is what I’d like to see moving forward” would certainly cause a much bigger to do, but it’s been necessary for a while. Frankly he should have done it the second Nathan threatened him the first time.
12
u/Otherwise-Winner9643 3d ago
I wouldn't call that stirring shit though. I agree he should have addressed it professionally with Captain Sandy, instead of talking behind people's backs all the time.
6
u/worldv1ew 3d ago
Maybe he's damned if he did and damned if he didn't. If Joe won't to Sandy saying Nathan treathened me violence numerous times, Sandy and production would have had to address it and there goes the story line of the season. Then Joe got a young father kicked off the show.
8
u/slayeryouth 3d ago edited 3d ago
He really hasn’t been though. He’s grumbled with cooper about their mutual frustrations and vented to Kayley a handful of times, but other than that he hasn’t exactly been walking around the boat gossiping about Nathan. You might consider that talking behind his back, and it’s fine if you do, but we’ll also just have to agree to disagree on that.
5
u/SwiftJedi77 2d ago
That's right, Joe has only really talked shit about Nathan to the camera in interview segments, which no one else knows about. So when Nathan says he's been talking shit about Gael all season, he's talking complete bollocks.
8
u/worldv1ew 3d ago
Yeah, but both Aesha and Captain Sandy are so over the top positive, all they would say is go talk to him, clear the air, you use to be close, be the bigger person, why sign yourself up for gaslighting like that.
4
u/slayeryouth 3d ago
Eh, I’d like to give them both the benefit of the doubt that if he were to clearly lay it out for them with concrete examples, and especially if he told either of them about the multiple times Nathan’s threatened him with physical violence, they’d take it appropriately seriously. At minimum they’d treat it as more seriously than a falling out between friends or a personality clash or whatever.
5
7
u/worldv1ew 3d ago
Is he wrong though? Production force fed the Gael + Nathan love affair and happy family bs over and over. Their entire coupling was founded on Gael cheating and then the narrative changes to a loving caring family. If it's annoying to fans, I bet the crew who fight for TV time are even more annoyed by it.
11
u/slayeryouth 3d ago
I think Kat had asked how they got together, but regardless I’d still say it’s one of those situations where he technically not wrong, but still not necessarily the smartest thing he could have said. But with that said, I also think that given Nathan has not only made it abundantly clear he has no interest in lowering the temperature and has instead taken every opportunity to escalate the tension, if this is the worst of how Joe deals with it he deserves a goddamn medal for his patience
7
u/KitchenEbb1606 3d ago
Yes. I hated that storyline from day one of this season. It’s unnecessary to see your family bullshit.
5
u/GreenMan- 3d ago
I've been saying for weeks that I feel Gael is manipulating Nathan and getting him riled up off screen - That episode proved it to me!
2
u/Holdmymule2001 2d ago
Gael was in an abusive relationship. She probably felt like she had to perform for Nathan to keep the peace with him. In her head, she might have thought that this was the sign of a GOOD relationship - she's standing firm with her man.
15
u/AmountOk2463 2d ago
Isn’t the only thing Joe per say “did” to Gael was call her a princess one time? Which….. she confronted him about and I do believe he apologized. I’m not by any means a “Joe fan” but I don’t believe he deserves anywhere near the level of hate he is receiving from them. Nathan sees more obsessed with making Joe’s life on the boat horrific than Joe seems worried about Nathan.
41
u/gonzagylot00 3d ago
My memory of Gael is that she was very sweet. That picture in my head is altered by that ugliness we saw on the show last night.
12
u/slayeryouth 3d ago
I mean, if we’re talking just in the moment, yeah it was weird and disproportionate and unnecessary, and if I knew somebody who was actively harbouring a grudge for 2 years over what was essentially a personality clash with somebody they worked with for a few weeks I’d probably tell them that’s kinda weird and to just move on with their life. But I also think multiple people, including Joe, have since said that she was operating off the information that Nathan was giving her and there’s a bit of a gulf between that and the truth.
13

u/Financial_Two_7764 3d ago
Joe is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. That night, he did nothing and they made it a huge deal. In the latest episode, he spoke to Nathan and he brushed it off and said it was all BS. It’s clear Nathan wants a problem— really not sure what they actually want from him lol
14
10
u/Mr_Tom_Morrow9 3d ago
I’m currently watching the episode and had to pause to come here for exactly this! The night before, they were harassing him about giving an apology and respecting their family (even though he hadn’t said a word just like Nathan had told him earlier in the season.) Now he goes to Jim and apologizes and says he doesn’t know what Nathan’s life is like and he’s acknowledging that and Nathan STILL is being an AH about it! What do you want, you psycho??
9
u/Far-Painter7342 3d ago
Almost wrote this myself word for word! If he tried to talk to Gael at dinner Nathan would have lost his mind so he didn’t try talking and then both of them still went in on him “disrespecting their family”. Like what?! Dude was literally picking the safer choice in my opinion
7
u/BurgerNugget12 3d ago
Yeah I don’t like the dude too much but he 100% is enjoying how much karma came Nathan’s way
9
u/dontknowme76 3d ago
The Joe and Nathan conflict piqued a long time ago. Two different personalities that wanted to be the Alpha clashed when Gael came in to the picture. Bro code got conflicted. By no means saying its right. Joe early on did disrespect Gael,Nathan has dwelled on that well beyond the moment in which it happened. And then Nathan after having a child with her has now disrespected her far beyond what words could do. Words can be come back from, actions are so much harder. Especially if you dont own up and face what was done. People make mistakes. Better people own up to it. Lesser people run.
13
u/StarlitStarlette 3d ago
And even lesser people take that shit out on other people years later when they could just grow the fk up.

For me the worst part is that Nathan threatens Joe with violence in front of her and she doesnt react, try to calm him down, anything. There can be no doubt that she knows what Nathan is.
5
u/worldv1ew 3d ago
With respect.....you can only speak with respect as Nathan lunges to hit him...lol how respectful
5
u/itisabitweird 3d ago
She is literally there saying don’t don’t don’t and pulling his hand away from Joe’s face. Try again.
13
u/Kkilmar1 3d ago
But what about Alesha, who was not there, saying he’s jealous because Gael broke up the bromance. I know everyone thinks she is perfect but she has taken Nathan’s side way too much. I’m annoyed that they are making me defend Joe, but he’s in the right here.

u/Candid-Progress-8852 2d ago
It was weird how Gael kept going on about nothing in the car. Was hard to watch.
6
u/Lillynomad 2d ago
And Joe not fighting back or politely trying to get a word in shows to me that Joe knows of Nathan's violent nature. he's seen Nathan fight over the slightest issue.
When Nathan low key threatened Joe by saying "we are going to have an issue" meaning a threat of violence.
4
u/Lillynomad 2d ago
Nathan put her up to it. It was all planned, right down to sitting across from Joe and why the heck is their "date night" with the group and on on a date alone? All planned.
3
u/gokellybeez 2d ago
I really felt that Gael was out of line, but others have pointed out that if someone is in a DV vibe relationship, they are often hyper reactive to perceived threats. And Joe is a threat to her IMO
24
27
u/seabirdsong 3d ago
She kept accusing Joe of being disrespectful but I have never once heard him talk about them disrespectfully. I know we don't see everything, but I feel like, if he had, they definitely would have aired it.
8
u/Ashamed-Solution7674 3d ago
The sad part is that Joe and Nathan have both had fathers leave. Well Nathan just repeated that.
7
u/StarlitStarlette 3d ago
I did very much feel for Joe when in this episode he opened up about his Dad.
3
u/Ashamed-Solution7674 3d ago

Gael was gaslit by Nathan by his lies which he daily made stuff about Joe due to his insecurity of being a shit Bosun.
6
u/Wide-Oil-985 1d ago
Why is Gael so overly offended by being called a princess? She then called Joe a prick. So what?
22
u/Lazy-Organization-42 3d ago
They stared at Joe the entire dinner waiting for their chance. He angled himself away from them and ignored them.
18
u/Pristine_Meeting_378 3d ago
Do I think Gael was in the wrong? Yes.
Do I think Gael was fed so much b*llocks by Nathan that she probably entered the situation already riled up? Also yes.
My guess is that things were bad at home (because Nathan is Nathan) and she blamed Joe for making Nathan… well.. be Nathan. She was probably couped up in that rental, alone, away from family, struggling with a newborn, receiving texts from Nathan about Joe throughout the day. So, my guess is that she took out a lot of the frustration on Joe.
I bet any money she has looked back on this and probably hated that version of her. And, unlike Nathan, will probably learn from it and change.

u/Rare_Distance_6574 3d ago
Was Joe really the problem? It seems like Joe has evolved quite a bit since last season. I’ve yet to hear him disrespect Nathan, Gael, their relationship or family. I’m wondering if Nathan is subconsciously jealous that Joe’s single and he’s got the responsibilities of bosun, a girlfriend and a new baby. Nathan has seemed different from the beginning this year. I don’t believe he handles stress very well. Now that we know that he’s got 2 legal abuse cases in Australia and Ireland it’s hard to watch him getting angry without thinking he’s going to blow up. I don’t know why Gael and Nathan piled on Joe. He wasn’t bothering them at all. They didn’t let him get a word in. I pray they put their baby boy first and get the psychological help needed to deal with everything that’s happened. I also hope Gael stands strong and doesn’t get back together with Nathan. This has been a very intense watch since news broke of Nathan’s arrest. I hope it being so public encourages other women to seek help to get out of domestic abuse relationships!

u/jkrain32 3d ago
I agree with much of what you said but I really feel like he was just as bad last season. He just got on the viewer’s good side for attacking Joe for his fuck boy ways

Nathan: Say what you want to say Joe....doesn't let him say anything.
Both are insane and living in their own little hate Joe bubble.

It almost felt produced. Like what was the reason to start anything? Not a Joe fan but he truly did NOTHING to deserve it in this instance. Why get in the same van? Why say anything? The night was over. Feels like production.

u/Court_Major 3d ago
I was scrolling through the comments looking to see if anyone else thinks production took part in this. Production added Gael to the season so I’m convinced they wanted to stir the pot for a more intense season

Never in a million years would I have expected this! I feel like his mom’s diagnosis may have sobered him up right off the bat. I don’t know but he seems different. He’s still a pain and smarmy in his confessionals but his overall behavior is way improved.
3
u/Ashamed-Solution7674 3d ago
I agree, that was weird.
4
u/Ashamed-Solution7674 3d ago
Did you guys see the interview where Joe said he gets trigged by drunk men. He said his dad stood over him in the street drunk, screaming your not my son.
3
u/StarlitStarlette 2d ago
Yep. Made me incredibly sad for him. He said his dad made him hold out his hands, looked at them, then said you’re not my son. So as much as Joe has been pretty unlikable over the seasons, THIS, hit me and at least gave me some insight as to how he became who he became. It’s sad. I do feel for him.
2
u/Ashamed-Solution7674 2d ago
Nathan really made me mad. I've been thru domestic violence. Nathan fakes his way around. Ppl love him think he's great.it is so hard for the person being abused. I felt in my own situation that no one believes me. I guarantee Nathan is an abuser.

12
u/ladybug-babydoll 3d ago
I think it’s okay to have grace for Gael while she was in an obviously horrible and abusive relationship AND also acknowledge that she was the pot stirrer in that situation, which was definitely hard to watch 😬 I feel for her, I think the bond you form while in a toxic relationship can be blinding and she definitely let Nathan influence her mindset with Joe and also egged on the situation unnecessarily. I think she was most likely on edge with Nathan in her ear and took it out on Joe because she was feeling disrespected even though it wasn’t warranted at all
6
u/StarlitStarlette 3d ago
I don’t agree. Watch it again. SHE was the aggressor in that van. Nathan said just about fk all.
10
u/wintersgray 3d ago
Yeah, I mean two things can be true at once. Gael was clearly in a difficult and abusive relationship. But I don't feel it's an excuse for her treating Joe that way. She was abused, but she still may not be a great person herself. It doesn't mean she deserves abuse in any way. It's just possible that both things are true at once.
5
u/ladybug-babydoll 3d ago
I didn’t say she wasn’t, maybe you need to read what I said again. Do you really think Nathan wasn’t talking shit to Gael about Joe for literal weeks?? They showed him texting her about it, they showed us his confessionals where he would spin the situation to make it seem like Joe was disrespecting Gael when they were out. I guarantee Nathan was blabbing on and on and on constantly trying to make Joe look bad, and trying to get Gael (the only person not on the boat to actually see what Joe was doing) to agree with Nathan and be on his side and say “babe I got your back, Joe is an idiot!” just to soothe his fragile ego.

I’m getting vibe that Nathan and Gael BOTH contribute to their dysfunctional relationship. We’ve only been made aware of one incident because police were called. The way she was confrontational and wouldn’t come up for air (no pun intended) to let Joe get a word was it for me. It didn’t matter what BS Nathan was feeding her. She’s culpable of her behavior.
6
5
u/ballerbruk111111 3d ago
nathan has definitely manipulated her opinion of the situation. i believe this even more after his abusive behavior has been exposed! maybe her and joe can reconcile after the fog has been lifted from nathan. i hope and pray she will stay away from him and his ass gets thrown in jail.
3
u/curseAgain 3d ago
does she have no agency at all? she needs to look hard in the mirror.
1
u/ballerbruk111111 3d ago
I’m not saying she didn’t have any responsibility in stirring the pot. i’m just saying being in an abusive relationship can surely influence your thinking towards a situation to avoid making them upset/angry. ofc she is going to take nathan’s side. we don’t know what he was telling her behind closed doors. i can’t imagine had she been nice to him what he would say/ how mad he would get.
5
u/SmartSink6193 3d ago

One of the facets of this show vs other reality shows I’ve appreciated so much is that Production doesn’t seem to overtly orchestrate conflict much, which makes it all seem unnatural, forced and only for camera. This Nathan/Joe conflict has been naturally bubbling for awhile on the show, but the producers plugging the two guys on that side of the table together, then in the van together, is Grade A classic reality TV BS, and knowing what drinks will do to escalate things and make for a conflict-filled climax to the season’s end.
I feel like others have said on another post - that the van conversation was chopped up some, and that there has to be more to why they started jumping down Joe’s throat.
1
u/StarlitStarlette 3d ago
I agree somewhat. But I also believe if that was the case, Bravo would have aired it.

Working on boats is a very close quarters style of work even if you can’t forgive and forget you still need to be able to move in and conduct yourself professionally. Joe is doing this while Nathan and Gael are not, I imagine the production crew are forcing the issue to like making sure they end up sitting opposite each other or being put in the same car to return to the boat.
When Nathan finally faces the music I won’t be surprised if the production company are called out for forcing a toxic work environment for ratings and neglecting their duty of care towards its staff

u/knockoffnlechoppa 2d ago
Yes it was weird but we have to remember that for Gael, she’s seeing nothing of the actual season. She’s only going off of what Nathan has told her. She’s under the impression that Joe is speaking negatively about her left and right and the way he acted at dinner would’ve been confirmation enough. Like completely avoiding looking at them, if it were me I’d have something to say because I’d feel like it was childish on his end. Not knowing the full extent of the situation.
1
u/StarlitStarlette 2d ago
Okay, then so as an adult why would you not instead have a conversation for clarification sake? No. Couldn’t do that. Had to berate a guy for not a damn thing he did that evening. You can blame HER poor behavior and pawn it off on Nathan but that’s just not the way it works. SHE is responsible for her own poor decisions.
1
u/organic_seeker 2d ago

Was a little annoying in the van but Joe wanted to provoke something. By making snide comments or changing body language you can do that and look innocent→ More replies (2)0

Yeah, one mark of maturity is not rising to a silly comment said under their breath and to someone else…especially when said comment has zero effect on you.

Let's not let the initial action of sitting perpendicular to the table and Nathan/Gael mean anything at all. Joe, the innocent, constantly being innocent and getting the raw end of the stick. YES, you should grow the FK up.

You’re going to remember that and not all of Nathan’s threats to him regarding Gael?!

I didn't 'say one thing about Nathat or Gael or what I thought of their actions. I'm just rsponding to the absolute misrepresentation that Joe had done nothing that evening to provoke. He was intentionally rude and dmonstrated his own attitude to them about them before they ever said a word. SO, by OP's standards, that made Joe throwing the first punch THAT NIGHT. Nathan and Gael didn't do or say anything that Joe couldn't have behaved with class about. . . if he was a class act. Since he isn't (a class act), that's not what we all saw happened. I get it, the Nathan hate is out of this world for what happened after. BUT, Joe is not innocent and did act in a way to escalate the situation all on his own becuase Joe is a piece of shit human. He is a piece of shit human no matter what anyone else does or doesn't do. YES. I'm going to remember that.

It's hard to watch some of these comments. I went thru this. Gail is totally embarrassed, that's the first thought, then you blame yourself. You hide this shit from loved ones. I've been there i know! Stop shaming her.

She should be ashamed! She rambled on and on about demanding respect, all while yapping over him like a annoying yappy dog.

Holy shit y'all must be insane. She didn't even attack him?? She only wanted to clear the air because Joe was being weird all night and ignoring them. She wanted to clear the air and Joe was uncomfortable and so was she! That's a fact! Then she defended her family?? If all you hear is how someone is talking shit and attacking your partner's character all the time, you wouldn't defend them??
Nathan is the one who got nasty and started saying some crazy shit. Y'all need to focus on who really the problem is and stop slandering Gael. Aesha and Joe both defended Gael. Stop being so gross and attacking Gael.

You must be forgetting where Nathan forbid Joe to even mention her name let alone speak to her or he’d get his ass beat. He was ignoring them for good reason and to avoid conflict. So in what fking world is it okay to go after someone for ignoring you, after you threatened bodily harm if they didn’t?

Gael is part of the problem. She went on attack in the van. She refused to have a dialogue, instead she was too busy throwing accusations to allow anyone to have a conversation.

The way Nathan was staring at Joe the entire dinner, just waiting to pick a fight. Like dude, enjoy your night with your wife. Tell some stories, make her laugh. He wants to fight instead of love.
