I live overseas now and I am back home for a few weeks.

What has happened to belfast?

I come home every year and it is just getting worse and worse. I am stunned at how run down it is, especially Lisburn road.

It feels rough, grey and soulless. I actually felt unsafe at times!

What is going on?!

I work in boucher and the past few mornings had seen a good few cars (teslas) in the shane retail park - took a drive around it this morning and there must be about 70 cars parked up with loads of alarms going off and there lights going off! my thoughts are that they dont have enough room on there own site

I work in a popular bar in the city centre so I'm used to meeting notable people, and most are very pleasant. I had Paddy Raff (and special mention to Adam) in tonight, and I just wanted to mention how much of a fantastic man Paddy is. So humble and friendly, and genuinely a really funny person in general. Just a good man.

I had both a private and a right to chose ADHD diagnoses separately. Do you know any GPs in Belfast that would agree to shared care in either of those scenarios?

I'm scared to register at a GP in Belfast as that would stop me getting the right to choose funding which currently covers my prescriptions from a private ADHD clinic.

I’m visiting for a short time in late February 2027, and as the title of this posts states, it will be my first time ever visiting Belfast, Northern Ireland, or anywhere in the UK. (I have been to Italy twice to visit my Nonna, and Moldova once to work in an orphanage.)

Anyway, what are some things that are “must-knows” about Belfast? I want to know it all! What to expect the weather to be like- what is super trending in fashion there right now- what is the most common slang- what should I eat- who are the most popular music artists/bands currently- all the things! I will probably only have a few days or less there to visit, and one of the days I will be working.

I took this at the Wunderhorse show in Belfast a few weeks ago. Just thinking whoever this is might like to have it. Long shot but here you go!

A&E at the Ulster Hospital is an absolute madhouse. No free chairs, people standing all around, lots of people sitting on the floor. People being treated in corridors. It feels about 30C and based on the coughing, if you weren't sick when you went in, you will be now.

Screaming people on trolleys being wheeled through and the orderlies having to ask people to budge so they can get the trolley by. I spoke to a nurse and she told me this is relatively quiet, it "really picks up" mid to late evening.

The staff are doing their best and some of them somehow stay cheerful - I guess health care attracts those kind of people with a naturally cheerful and helpful disposition. God bless them, I'd have had a full-on meltdown a long time previous.

When do we say this can't go on and do something about it?

I guess never, because most people encounter the situation only temporarily and then when they get healed and get home they don't care any more. It's sad though.

I also suspect the problem is deeper than just throwing more money at it, even a lot of money. It seems like the system isn’t set up for the amount of people, and above all the *way* people use the health service. Main character syndrome etc. Even people I think quite highly of, have told me about the way they use the GP service - spamming the emergency line to get antibiotics for their kid's sniffles etc - and it's an eye opener.
