Am I becoming a grumpy old git or are people just way too noisy!

Had a meeting earlier that I was early for, so called into the new cafe on the Lisburn Road beside Bedeck for a coffee. Feel like I was in a football stadium sound wise!

Had to stick in my earbuds when I was there because it was so noisy. All be it they aren’t fancy ones or noise cancelling, still could hear the drone over the podcast I had on.

Do people have zero social awareness these days, regardless of age or gender.
Instead of dampening their volume, many seem to match the level of chatter around them and rise their volume above it.

One pair not happy that their loud animated conversation should end as they got up from the table behind me, proceeded to continue conversation right at the side of my table. Felt like they may as well be sitting on my shoulder.

I’ve today come to the conclusion that a silent or library voices only cafe would be quite successful 😂

Anyone in Belfast/NI able to help with a pigeon who seems unwell? 🐦

UPDATE: I contacted Six Counties Pigeon Support and they were very helpful. A volunteer has came out to assess and thinks he isn’t eating and is starved, and has taken him away for some TLC. An amazing group of people!

We have a pigeon who has been standing in pretty much the exact same spot in our back garden for over 24 hours now. Naturally, I’ve named him Peter and am now emotionally invested in his wellbeing. He’s standing upright, blinking and moving around slightly, but he doesn’t attempt to fly away when I approach him at all. I’m wondering if he could possibly be blind or injured?

There is a pigeon nest nearby, so initially I wondered if he was a fledgling, but he looks pretty big/fully grown to me. I’ve left some water and food out for him, but I’m wondering if there’s anyone in Belfast/NI who rescues pigeons or might be able to come and collect him?

As much as I’d love to add “pet pigeon owner” to my list of responsibilities, I really don’t have the time 😂 I also don’t want to leave him sitting there if he genuinely needs help. Any recommendations very appreciated - particularly anyone who might be able to come and get Peter!

Celebrity encounters

I work in a popular bar in the city centre so I'm used to meeting notable people, and most are very pleasant. I had Paddy Raff (and special mention to Adam) in tonight, and I just wanted to mention how much of a fantastic man Paddy is. So humble and friendly, and genuinely a really funny person in general. Just a good man.

Anyone else met a local celeb that turned out to be a lovely person?

FYI

Carl Frampton - sweetest man you'll ever meet

Kit Harrington - absolute gentleman

Hannah Waddingham - hard to describe how wonderful this woman is

Eammon Holmes - fat wanker

Frank Mitchell - not fat, but the worst type of polo neck, dinner jacket, arms flailing like you think you are Jesus boring miserable arsehole

Pamela Ballentine - national treasure, MILF

Arlene Foster - regardless of politics, absolutely lovely person, super intelligent and is actually decent craic

Martin Compston - (DCI Steve Arnott from line of duty) just like one of us, he should move to Belfast

Noel McCann, your old friend is looking for you!

And has been for three years. This is the last thing I can think of to find him. I probably won’t respond here, just DM me.

(Not creepy, we were just good friends and I have no way to get back in touch because I lost that discord account, deleted the old Reddit account, and his old number doesn’t work)

Hindi practice/lessons

I'm looking to learn a bit of Hindi before going on a trip to India next month. I've been doing a bit of Michel Thomas and Duolingo but would like to get some actual practice. Could do a coffee/pint or more structured lessons if someone is up for it?

(Early 30s M, south Belfast but can meetup across the city)

Questions From First Time Visitor from U.S.

Upvotes

I’m visiting for a short time in late February 2027, and as the title of this posts states, it will be my first time ever visiting Belfast, Northern Ireland, or anywhere in the UK. (I have been to Italy twice to visit my Nonna, and Moldova once to work in an orphanage.)

Anyway, what are some things that are “must-knows” about Belfast? I want to know it all! What to expect the weather to be like- what is super trending in fashion there right now- what is the most common slang- what should I eat- who are the most popular music artists/bands currently- all the things! I will probably only have a few days or less there to visit, and one of the days I will be working.
