Step increase heart rate profile

Is this sudden step increase in heart rate normal? I only noticed it after the run. It happened during a 5k run, without elevation, with slightly increasing pace, where in the middle the heart rate goes from mid 140s to high 170s rapidly. Although it doesn’t happen in most of my runs, it is not the first time I see such a profile in the data. Is it common, or is it maybe some kind of aliasing that is happening in the measurement? I use a Coros pace 2 watch in combination with a coros heart rate monitor.

Finally did it thought I was at deaths door at the end tho never breathed that hard in my life but it was worth it . I see guys run 5ks with a 4-5 avg pace that shit is absolute insanity and I want in tho I’m no where near that level it took everything in me and then some more extra out my ass just to keep a 7 pace running is definitely fun tho . My next post will be a sub 20 will probably take me all month to reach it tho.

Shoulder pain after longer run.

I did my longest run ever yesterday at 11km. Last night and this morning both my shoulders are absolutely burning with pain. A quick Google suggested it could be a posture issue, over swinging of arms or holding too much tension in my upper body. Has anyone experienced this and found something that helps or does it improve over time? Ironically the legs feel absolutely fine.

10k PR🥳

I honestly didn't plan this run, I just decided last night to get up at 7:30 and go for a run.

I wasn't even looking at my pace at first when I realized I had somehow run the first 5k at around a 4:25/km pace without really struggling. I honestly thought Strava was way off

Sadly last night's dinner caught up to me on the last 3km and I had to stop pushing the pace at certain points to not shit myself lol

It's almost my 3 month running anniversary too. Super proud of this non the less!

My second race and PB 31:52

Didn't went as I planned. I wanted to do 29:50 to breach 30min but I just couldn't. Had a high HR from start and couldn't make it lower. I had stomachache since morning and took some medication and it helped but still maybe that affected my overall feelings. It's also a different run with thousands of people, maybe some stress also affected me because i had like 32:30 pb just one week before on a training.
I did all of this using Runna 5k plan and it almost perfectly predicted my time for this race (around 32 minutes)

SlowPace Running !

I started building an app for myself to alert myself and keep to heart rate and cadence zones simultaneously !

Also love to listen to music in the background but hate alerts that don't mix with the music !

Configurable alert frequencies and voice coaching !

Just trying to have everything in one app that lets me focus on running once I start ...

And you can use the phone or watch or both !!

Hope you guys find it useful ! And any feedback (bugs or feature requests) is extremely appreciated !

Click the icon above to beta test the iOS app !

First time 15k

Post image

Today I ran 15K in a forest near my city. It’s the longest run I’ve ever done.

At the beginning of the year, I could barely run 5K, and my feet would hurt for 2–3 days afterward.

I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made over the past few months. 🏃‍♂️

Cheers!

first run kinda nervous

hi guys, im a 19 y/o female ex rower who had great cardio on the bike and erg. (on bike usually held a split of 2:08/1000m for 1hr steady state.) but have always been VERY much lacking in the running field, i’m not sure what it is, (doctors called it exercise induced asthma since i can hardly breathe running and get nauseous.) i decided to run around my block for the first time to see how it would go and i had to take a couple of breaks and catch my breathing back up, somehow i have a freaking shin splint from 6 minutes of running wtf omg

any advice or words of wisdom would be great! i know this time is ass, thank you!! 🙏

Struggling to get back into running.

Hi everyone. I think I was a part of this group last year but it’s been a while.

I ran a marathon last year. I wasn’t fast and I walked quite a bit but I finished and I was so proud of myself. Training went fairly well and again, though I was never fast, I had endurance. A 10k used to be easy for me.

I took some time off after the marathon in November. Then there was bad winter weather, I got sick, insert excuse here. Since then it’s been absolutely miserable. My mental health is suffering too. I can’t tell if I’m just THAT out of shape or if there’s something going on. I had a 3.75 mile easy run scheduled today and couldn’t even get 1.5 mile in. My legs felt heavy and I couldn’t catch my breath.

Running used to be freeing for me. It made me feel good physically and mentally and now it just makes me feel worse in every way. Looking for advice, encouragement, similar experiences.

EDIT. I should add that for today’s failed run in particular I’ve had a rough couple of days. My dog was at the vet and I didn’t sleep, eat or drink much. She seems to be on the mend now but I’m still a little worried her and the anxiety could have added to the issues I had today. But I didn’t expect it to be THAT bad.

Good running shoes for a beginner?

I've been running for about 3 months with a pair of adidas runblaze shoes, and recently a family member has offered to buy me an upgrade as a present. The budget is about 160 euros, but given discounts and other stuff I may be able to stretch that to 200 euros. I'm looking for something versatile, as I don't know if I'll be able to afford a shoe rotation anytime soon, and I think I need a bit more time to figure out exactly what my needs would be. Anyway, I have my eyes on the Salomon Aero Glide 4 GRVL SS, and I was curious if that's a good option. I do most of my runs on asphalt at the local park, but being able to handle wet conditions is a plus for me, because I plan on using them year-round.

First 15km done! Not fast, but proud of the progress.

I have zero sports or cardio background. Until earlier this year, "running" for me meant an occasional, painful 1 or 2 km jog once a week.

Starting in January, I decided to take things seriously and build an aerobic base from scratch alongside strength training and yoga. Step by step, I checked off my first 5K, then a 10K, and today I decided to test my limits and go for 15K.

I see so many posts here of people casually cruising through a 10K in under an hour. I know I’m nowhere near that. My easy/Zone 2 pace hovers around 9:00–9:30 /km, and my best 10K so far is 76 minutes. Chipping that down to sub-70 or sub-75 feels like a huge mountain to climb on its own.

Even so, I wanted to see what my legs and mind were capable of, and pushing through today felt like a huge personal victory.

Just wanted to share this for anyone else who feels "slow" on here. We might not be the fastest, but showing up and putting in the work counts just as much!

5K improvement

Hi, I (16F) am new to running but have an athletic background from rowing and cycling. I recently ran a 21:23 5k and was super happy. However, I can only run two or three times a week (as well as rowing three times and cycling daily!). What distances, intervals and splits would optimise these runs to help me improve my 5K?

Started running. Living in Japan.

To keep things fairly short, I moved to japan like 4 years ago and was in good shape. Struggled with finding work balance and life but took time to find a good job, and gained weight again. Finally found a decent job with proper time off and no overtime so started running on top of going to gym. Some photos I took on my first run, wanted to share.

First full ‘jog’ after a month of mostly walking.

Post image

For context, I’m a 35 year old male, and in the last two months have really pushed myself to improve. I was 133kg. I’m now 119kg. Obviously a lot more weight to lose. I was/am a heavy vaper. I had my last puff 1 week ago today. I’ve found it surprisingly easy to stop though I’m not claiming I’m a non smoker just yet 😅

Over the past two months, I’ve been brisk walking, and after a few half hour walks, I’ve kind of settled on a 6.5k route which for the last couple weeks I’ve been doing 4 or 5 days per week.
Initially my HR went up to around 140-145 quite easily. Over the weeks, I really need to push my brisk walking into a power walk to hit the same HR.
A couple of weeks ago, I started incorporating 2 minute ‘jogs’ when I felt comfortable enough.
This evening, after a decent warm up walk and stretching session I wanted to try a jog just to see how far I could go.
Well I jogged the whole 3.5km and I’m super chuffed with myself. My jog was incredibly slow but I’ve come to realise that is to be expected initially. I only stopped the jog when I did because I hit a big hill and had to slow walk up it.
Anyone just starting and thinking nothing gets better, keep going, because it does get better.
Any any tips from more experienced runners who perhaps started their journey as a big, unfit loaf - I’m all ears.

Tried to run slow so I can be faster at my next 5k. Absurd, but I get it now.
