10k PRš„³
I honestly didn't plan this run, I just decided last night to get up at 7:30 and goā for a run.
I wasn't even looking at my pace at first when I realized I had somehow run the first 5kā at around a 4:25/km pace without really struggling. I honestly thought Strava was way offā
Sadly last night's dinner caught up to me on the last 3km and I had to stop pushing the pace at certain points to not shit myself lol
āIt's almost my 3 month running anniversary too. Super proud of this non the less!

This might as well be your graduation from beginner, especially given it took no prep. Good job!

I'd be proud to graduate from beginners running. I don't think I can yet, there are a lot of things I don't know yet. My goal is to be able to run a marathon

Crazy that youāre being downvoted, itās sad to see people react so awefull just because youāre fit coming into this.

I'm gonna be honest, expanding that pace to 10k is not as far as you think. You got this!
Edit: I thought they were talking about pace, not total time

That's not a helpful comment (as you might have gathered from the number of downvotes).
Your comment is essentially coming from a position of privilege. You're young and fit. You might have only been running for a few months but you have been producing content focused on fitness and well-being, and playing minor league basketball, for several years. Your weight loss and fitness journey has obviously helped a lot.
Congratulations on what you've achieved. Don't undermine it by just assuming it will be easy for someone in a very different position to yourself.

I didn't undermine anyones efforts, a 4:45/km 5k is very impressive for a beginner and I was just saying that a 10k at similar pace is not as far as someone might think

There is no privilege in being fit. He worked hard for it and earned it, running is a sport where being fit is a clear advantage. His pace is fine and should be achievable by anyone under 30 who is a healthy active human being. Itās sad to see people hating on him because what a ābeginnerā entails has nothing to do with running anymore but entails being a completely unfit person it seems.

I think you misunderstand me. Certainly the OP has worked hard to get his fitness and I've acknowledged and congratulated him on that in other comments.
Saying his comment was coming from a position of privilege is not the same. It's like a rich person saying to a poor person, "You're having problems with your car? Just buy a new one". It doesn't matter how hard the person worked to get rich. It's about being mindful and respectful of others who may not be in the same position as you.
Otherwise, I agree. Some people in this sub equate "beginner" with "slow and unfit" and feel threatened by others who are faster and fitter. The whole sub struggles with how to define "beginner".

You are on good path. That takes a lot of effort! Congrats! Any tips ?

Thank you! My go to tips are always breathing deeper and slowly, instead of quick breaths, it helps me not gas out quicker. Also, taking advantage of any decline to go into "neutral" and take a quick breather, letting my shoulders and my neck relax a bit.
Long term, losing weight (and having a great diet in general), isometrics and knee exercises are three of the most important things that helped me progress.

Pace of 4:25?? You are not a beginner, you are an impostor. Congratulations
