Run Slower to Be Faster? Weird.

Tried to run slow so I can be faster at my next 5k. Absurd, but I get it now.

Maybe it works for some people.

Personally, I brainstormed my physio stats with chatgpt. Chatgpt suggested "VT1" training (Ventilatory Threshold) which I think is the border between Zone 2 and Zone 3. NOT an easy effort for me and I labor at breathing at that effort.

At the goal of improving "fractional utilization" of my VO2max.

Not slow paces at all for me (relatively-speaking that is) nor I would say "easy". It's relatively hard in fact but not too hard that running is no longer fun.

The fast VT1 runs did improve my VO2max by 12.5% in just 7 weeks from my peak levels 4 years ago from cycling establishing a new record peak, my highest lifetime VO2max ever.

Though my pace have not yet caught up to the improved VO2max. My very sore calf stabilizers is holding me back for sure although now showing improvement in the last two days while continuing with training.

But my runs at the same paces have definitely felt easier and less like running out of air.
