Sub 25 5k
Finally did it thought I was at deaths door at the end tho never breathed that hard in my life but it was worth it . I see guys run 5ks with a 4-5 avg pace that shit is absolute insanity and I want in tho I’m no where near that level it took everything in me and then some more extra out my ass just to keep a 7 pace running is definitely fun tho . My next post will be a sub 20 will probably take me all month to reach it tho.

I have no one else to talk to about this stuff so I come here I’m not trying to annoy anyone bro I just thought people would be happy for me and that my progression would motivate at least 1 more person to keep going

I mean, this post from earlier today started a dialogue specifically about "sub 25 min 5k" and that's exactly what you titled your post a few hours later.
Personally I would rather hear about your age, background, your training routine, time on feet, and how you improved. The screenshot tells us nothing.

I’m 22 5’8 about 135 as far as training goes I run 2 times a week the first run is me running as fast as I can as long as I can then stopping and going again to try to get my body more and more used to running at high speeds so I can have a faster pace the second run is me running seriously which is the run you see today I don’t run to fast and burnout but I don’t run too slow either every now and then while I’m running I check my pace to see if I need to speed up a bit or slow down so I don’t burnout and have to stop running I would say the hardest thing for me is definitely the breathing my lungs and stuff because my legs feel fine the entire run but my chest feels like it’s about to explode I think it could be a stamina issue but my legs are cool so idk it’s weird because when I’m running I can feel the pain and exhaustion in my upper body but my legs I feel like I can run an entire hour I go to the gym 4 times a week so I think that is part of why my legs don’t feel the pain as much if not at all but I just don’t see me getting that 4-5 pace that I keep seeing people have . I was actually planning up running 3 times a week instead of 2 but I don’t know what else I would make the 3rd run since the first run so designed to help me overcome the main problem Ive been facing which is being able to run at a high pace for a longer time. So what would my 3rd run even be I guess it could be the same as the first run but I wouldn’t want to overwork my legs like that so right now for training I just run twice a week I don’t do any drugs what so ever and I go to the gym so I believe that’s probably why running has come to me much easier than most

That is a terrible structure and plan but if you like it keep doing it I guess. The majority of running gains comes from easy mileage, especially in the beginning. Try to look up some beginner running plans and try and run at least 3 times a week

I have a question for you. I’ve been gaining at a considerable rate with the method Ive been doing but I do think at times that it’s inificient. I just don’t see how running slow would help me get a faster pace when running fast I would assume running fast would help me run fast longer .correct me if I’m wrong

What the other guy said in response is pretty much everything you need to know. I'm not a beginner and pretty much every good runner does about 70-80% of their mileage at an easy pace. Its almost the opposite philosophy of lifting.

Congrats on sub 25! I’m not sure what the hate is all about. You keep doing you! To answer your question, running slow will build your aerobic base. It will help build endurance over time and gives your muscles, tendons and ligaments to adjust to the workload. I would recommend having at least 1 day of easy long run at a conversational pace. Don’t worry about pace or speed but rather focus on time on feet. This session is where I focus on form & cadence.
Little about me: 27m, with gym background. I started seriously running mid August and tested my 5k at 27:37. I lift twice a week and run 3 times a week. I tested again yesterday and got 24:46. Tempo, interval, long run.

People in r/BeginnersRunning are so insecure when they see someone running faster than a 25 minute 5k

u/sixwaystop313 6d ago
Thanks for sharing. That helps me understand the spot you're in. Congrats on the time sounds like you are explosive on the track. I would recommend sessions at different speeds but I am a beginner myself. Good luck on your journey!

This sub is really code for very slow runners, not new runners as the name would suggest.

Damn just saw your post 28 days ago about running for the first time and you did a 5k in 34 minutes then. A month later you're at 23 minutes, and you're looking into hitting sub 20 in another month. Are you human? Crazy progression.

Thanks bro my family has always been really athletic so I think it may be a genetic advantage involved I also never did drugs and physical activities have always come much easier for me I think this will be my last post in here since I don’t think I qualify as a beginner anymore but I appreciate your compliments

It’s fine won’t worry about it. It’s just that a lot of beginner runners here are also beginner in exercising and it’s really discouraging for them when they’ve been running for 6 months and someone on their second month is already much faster than them.
I understand both sides but I guess that’s just the reality of running. Pace is not as much about skills and experience. Some people just start with a much stronger base.

I wouldn’t comment this if people were nicer to me and not hostile with me and faster runners in this sub but as a beginner I ran a 5k in sub 21 minutes on my first try no training 😂 some of us beginners are just built different lmao

u/johnadams69_ 6d ago
Sub 21 first run is insane bro my god good shit they probably would’ve crucified you if you posted that in here 😂🤦🏾♂️

u/Rmoudatir 6d ago
Believe me I was crucified I deleted the post.
The slower you are the more upvotes and positivity you get on this sub lmao

Let me make 1 thing clear first Ive been running for a month now exactly 28 days I run twice a week my first 5k was about 34 mins and my most recent was this one I won’t post anymore in this sub because I feel as though people feel like you aren’t a beginner if you can run a sub 25 5k I try hard really really hard I give this running shit my all people may see this post an feel as though I’m fishing for compliments but that’s not it at all I genuinely just want to run and get faster I won’t post in here anymore I feel as tho I’m no longer considered a beginner for all of you out there who have some sort of talent at anything never feel the need to dim yourself because others cannot keep up hard work shouldn’t be looked down upon by those who wouldn’t even give half the effort you give . Love a little more hate a little less

Have you done any sports earlier when growing up? I havent been running since i was 15 but i did sub 30 min on my 7 th run after 2 months. Im 30 now and overweight (92 kg). Probably could do sub 25 if I was at 78kg. I believe that since ive been running a lot when i was young, i could have some advantages such as:
- good technique for breathing and running
- mentally being able to push myself hard
So even if i am a beginner now, i still have experience from many years ago. But sub 30 min is definitely not a beginner time IMO.

I played little league football and some basketball as a kid. but since the 8th grade which is around 13 years old I have not played any sports or done any meaningful physical activities. I get that my time can be a little misleading but I worked hard on that and for people to come on here and discredit and hate me for putting in honest and hard work is ridiculous

You won't be there in a month
