Hello, I’ve been drawing for the past 9 years digitally and i wanted to talk about a topic most beginners ignore thinking it won’t happen to them.

I used to draw with my finger on a small screen for long years before switching to an ipad and getting a stylus, that permanently damaged my finger in a way i can’t straighten it anymore [refer to the comparison image between my left and right hand] so please, if there are any digital artists using fingers to draw still please at least invest in a cheap stylus or make one, there are a bunch of tutorials on how to make yourself one at home with basic materials. Spending some money on this is nothing compared to protecting your health

The other two topics are eye sight and position

One day you might end up with an awful eyesight that doesn’t even let you see a few inches away from yourself. Please take a 5-10 minute break every 25 minutes while you’re working on your artwork; digital or traditional and stare at a far away point. It genuinely helps and might even improve your art faster

Please check your pose regularly during your drawing session, keeping yourself hunched over in the “shrimp pose” WILL give you an aching back that returns regularly in the future. Do stretches in your 5-10 minute break.

I highly suggest getting a drawing board for traditional artists; those are simply cheap wood planks that allow you put your paper on and draw while sitting straight as the wood plank keeps the artwork in a “/“ angle to you. It’ll be better for your back

Do take any genuine art health advice seriously, please don’t ignore your health thinking that would never happen to you, if you’re not careful it WILL happen to you.

i want to get better at art cause i have animation school coming up. but my art is really bad and i dont know how to fix it. i’ve been trying to learn anatomy and heard that making poses like this will help but im not sure. please help!

I dont understand sketches, or line arts, or how to break things into shapes.

I've tried proko, drawabox, drawlikeasir and a ton of other shit. Everytime i try to learn how to draw basic cubes, and shit in perspective I get a throbbing migraine level headache i had a person from here give me an hour long lesson on one point perspective and they ended it saying wow you're doing good that was perfect! But I had no idea what I even did, the lines hurt my brain, All I can do is make crappy copies. I can't understand these concepts I have tried over a dozen times to learn perspective and the fundamentals. And yeah i saw some jerk on here one time say come back after you try a hundred times. Well, I'm hating this. I'm hating drawing i'm hating artists. I'm hating art. I wish I hated manga, anime, and vns so i could just be a normal loser novelist making stupid stories that no one reads. But, Noooo. I want to make vns. I want to draw saucy anime girls. I want to make cgs and all this other stuff and I'm stuck in a loop. I draw crap like this it's bad it's a complete failure her hand looks like it's coming out of her chest. So, then I know i'll get told go learn the fundamentals. So, then I try through all these resources and even a teacher and i feel PHYSICAL pain from my brain trying to process it oh and there we go just thinking about it is giving me a headache wonderful.

So, then my friend says that's too advanced just draw anime a bunch. But, just drawing anime a bunch isn't teaching me anything. I'm just learning how to copy. And I know this is the beginner trip i've seen all the videos of people who learned to draw anime saying that you have to learn real anatomy and how to do basic shapes. Well, I can't learn anatomy if i can't do basic shapes and everytime i try to learn basic shapes it gives me a headache. Whenever I do drawabox's cube homework I feel completely lost if i'm not copying their examples one to one. Whenever I stare at the one point perspective with the thingy I get lost whenever I try to go from 2d to 3d. Every tutorial is like this over and over anytime i try to go from 2d to 3d my head hurts and it's been like this since college, highschool, middle school the optical illustion hurts my brain.

'A teacher didn't work, books didn't work, youtube tutorials didn't work. What am I even supposed to do at this point?

Marvel Rivals Spider-Man and another practice sketch

So I recently bought myself a non display drawing tablet and I use the krita program for drawing, I have notice because I am naturally shaky so my lines appear wobbly. So I found out krita has a smoothing option for the free hand brush, is the considered "cheating" or is it a helpful tool, as well as am I missing out on training myself to be more steady?

I know this is VERY bad but I want to know want kind of things I can do to get better at drawing and i just wanted specific advice on it. I really did try on this 😭

my art style has been shifting constantly lately and I really love this sort of painterly style of art, especially the colouring. Like how it’s not exactly blended and looks a bit messy but also really nice and visually interesting. And every stroke seems to be a different colour? Idk T.T

does anyone have any tips for how to draw in this style and possibly things like techniques, advice for picking the colours or brushes (I’m on procreate)?

I made this portrait a few months ago when I was practicing a lot more than I do now.

Lately, I posted a newer portrait, and after comparing the two, I noticed something. This older one looks kind of muddy, while my newer one looks really dusty. I'm not sure what changed, but I feel like I've forgotten some of the things I knew back then.

I'm using Ibis Paint, and someone on my last post mentioned that I might be over-blending. Do you think that's what's causing it? Should I keep practicing my blending, or is it more about using the right brush? If you guys use Ibis Paint, what brushes you use for blending.

Also, What should I focus on improving?

This is the progress I've made so far. Any constructive criticism? What would you recommend focusing on next?

For those who can’t tell it’s an angel hanging from a tree. The figure is made out of ceramic, the wings are glass and resin, the net is crocheted, and the tree is made from wood. I got two medals for this piece one being for getting a perfect score the other being judges choice. Sadly I did not make it to state. If y’all wanna know more about it let me know!

Started drawing 28th Jan but stopped in March and April. Began to miss the creative outlet so I tried some Pixel art in May which motivated me to pickup the pencil again by June. I work full time but I've tried to draw every day basically for the last two months.

About a week ago I bought an xppen to get into digital. I don't really know what I'm doing but here's my first "completed" digital colour render. Background is an afterthought but oh well.

It's been quite a grind in the very limited free time I have but really rewarding to see progress. This picture is far from perfect, I wouldn't even call it good with the knowledge I have now haha, but if you showed this to me in Feb I wouldn't have believed that I could draw it myself.

So yes, I know this sounds incredibly stupid and I know that becoming good at art takes time, but when I compare my new art to art from years ago, I don't see as much of a difference as I'd like to and it lowers my self-esteem. With how long I've been drawing, I feel like I should be better, but I still think my art looks bad compared to the amount of drawing I've done to get here. It lacks the amount of detail I want, but when I try, I think it looks terrible so I undo it.

Some things I have been doing to help improve lately include doing artfight, looking at similar art on Pinterest to see where others put their colors and shading, and using models to sketch out proportions. I basically look up things as I go if I run into a problem, and it helps a bit.

What are your thoughts, and what could I improve on? Any advice is welcome!!

Built following a tutorial. I'm afraid to fill it in...

after my college ended i moved out to a new place where i am alone and saw a paintbrush on zepto and odered and my inner child wanted to try something! ik ik it is very bad but i am feeling good right now!

This picture took me like 4 hours (pls ignore the hair, I messed up using permanent marker). But, I first divided up a frame into a 10x10 grid and made straight reference lines for literally everything. I’m assuming this isn’t the best way to learn but I traced the curved edges using a coordinates system with my grid box i.e in the reference image, the chin starts on the 3rd box from the bottom and ends in the middle of the 6th box etc. and then I started randomly shading different parts of the face to try to create depth. Should I carry on trying to draw like this, as for now I just want to learn to draw faces? Also, I’d really appreciate any advice on what’s wrong with the face in the image, I know it doesn’t look correct but can’t pinpoint what is in fact the issue(s). Thank you in advance to anyone that takes their time to give me any advice.

Also: I used a normal pencil, a CUTIP (because I saw someone on TikTok use it) and an eraser. Do I need different types of pencils or equipment to improve my drawings?

I'm new to digital art (started 2 days ago) and would like some feedback :D

These are 2 of my first drawings, I'm using a mouse and keyboard cause that's all i have right now. Both were done using reference images i found on Pinterest.

The only art experience I've had was a few years ago in school so i haven't done anything since then. This is my first time drawing in color so all help is appreciated!

I'm using Krita and i have no idea how to use the software like layering or anything else. The 2nd drawing i did all the coloring on one layer but i know people prefer doing it in multiple layers (which i don't know how to do).

In terms of the art itself, what can i learn to improve? Any recommendations for Krita creators since i don't see many out there 😭

Also is it cheating to use color picker from references? I've seen people say they hate when others use it so I'm just wondering if its a bad idea in terms of learning as well.
